Re: Miyamoto: "Angry Birds Would Have Been Better on DS"

OldBoy

@Mickeymac Believe me, I have a wife and 2 daughters, I've played Just Dance, Zumba Fitness ,the lot. And while I'm not denying they can be fun, a competent Video Game they are not.The Wii has no clue whatsoever as to how well your dancing. My best scores come from sitting on my a88 on the sofa
I'm not implying that all popular games are incompetent but popularity does not immediately equate to quality.

Re: Miyamoto: "Angry Birds Would Have Been Better on DS"

OldBoy

Angry birds sucks.......ah but wait, a lot of people like it so it must be awesome.NEWSFLASH: The majority of people are easily pleased!Take a look at the movie and the music singles charts for proof, games aren't no different.
A lot of people like Lady Gaga, doesn't mean she ain't s**t though.
Miyamoto is taking the p**s.

Re: Talking Point: Is Nintendo Over-Reliant on Super Mario?

OldBoy

Yes but if it makes 'em money then they will keep churning them out. But what I.P's aren't being milked these days? At least Nintendo can't be accused of letting the quality slip. Personally I've lost interest in Mario games but that's because I've been playing them for nearly 20 years. Its natural to want something new.
Regardless of that though Mario games are a perfect gateway into video games for the younger generation.Simple to understand ,hard to master and controls are always spot on.
I'll always play Mario Kart though, don't think I'll ever get sick of those games
Though @Bass_X0 's idea about a Smash Bros kart game sounds f****** awesome!!

Re: Miyamoto: "F-Zero Could Work on Wii U"

OldBoy

I think it would work just as well ,if not better, if it was on 3DS. The fixed view of racing games is perfect for 3D.Even a port of GX would be awesome (if they gave it an easier difficulty, man that story mode got tough fast!!)
Although I suppose if Wii U can do 3D in HD that would be pretty special! .
And I don't want no half assed lil' digital game. F-Zero deserves a full retail release.
Also @VintageBoy Nice idea. I think cel shaded could work really well, as long as they make it slightly gritty , maybe like Borderlands.
Get to it Nintendo!!

Re: Nintendo: "Experience of Playing", Not Tech Specs, Key to Wii U

OldBoy

Graphics wise I'm fine if Wii U is on par (slightly better) than PS3/360. But power is not just used for graphics. Why do people forget this?
A.I , number of enemies on screen, multi tasking (i.e downloading a game while playing another, messaging and chat etc) ,frame rate and probably other things I can't think of right now. Look at something like Total war on the PC to see how ppower can be used for improved gameplay. The sheer amount of troops and action (A.I) on screen would not be possible on current gen consoles. So power can bring new experiences and gameplay. Thus rendering Nintendo's statement a bit silly.
Nintendo said they wanted this console to be for everyone (or 'U' as they like to put it ~groan~). They specifically pushed that aspect at E3. Focusing mainly on - Traditional buttons , amazing graphics and improved online. I'm pretty sure that if it isn't a noticeable graphical upgrade of the current gen then they will fail to tempt the hardcore away from their beloved PS360. I'll buy one just for the Nintendo games but I'm sure I'll still be playing multi format games on my 360 if there is little difference, beside a map on the touch screen, between the two. All my friends are already on there and it's so easy to add more, my account is set up , online is great as is XBLA and I'm not wrapped in cotton wool like I am with Nintendo's online interface.
Don't get me wrong I'm looking forward to WiiU but I don't think the 'hardcore' (stupid term ,I know, but you know who I mean.... right?) will be bothered in the slightest. I'm sure it will be relatively successful though as long as Nintendo keep producing the goods and there's half a dozen exclusives worth playing.

Re: GAME Group Files for Administration

OldBoy

@VintageBoy
I wasn't talking about individual employees though was I?
I'm talking about GAME the business which, unless I'm mistaken, is what this article is about.Should we support any business just because it employs people, regardless of it's practices? Nah ,didn't think so.

Re: GAME Group Files for Administration

OldBoy

Really.....Oh what a surprise!!
Seriously I'm amazed they lasted this long! Awful customer service, sky high prices, an unhealthy obsession with trade in's and pre-owned games and no niche games or decent merchandise to be seen.
I shall be circling the stores like a vulture waiting to pick up some bargains!! HA HA, bye bye GAME. See ya in Hell!

Re: Review: Everdrive 64

OldBoy

$175's pretty cheap for the whole of the N64 catalogue though. And the fact that you can play with the intended controller makes this a lot better than using a PC.Not interested but a cool bit of kit all the same.
we love you too :3 that said, chances are there's something going on behind the scenes if you see something odd happening on the forums. If ever you have any questions, as always, we invite you to get in touch directly so that we may explain. thank you! — TBD

Re: GAME Not Selling Mario Party 9

OldBoy

Apparently they won't be stocking ANY!! new Nintendo games and the loss of Mass Effect3 will be the final nail in the coffin. All their VITA stock has property of SONY stickers all over them ,it's only a matter of time now.
Yes its sad for the staff but why should people support a business that continually rips you off with mega high prices, doesn't stock anything other than FIFA ,COD type games, gives ridiculously low trade in prices, pushes second hand games over new, have staff that are clueless/rude and ignorant (in my experience) and well ,is basically just a terrible store.
Their demise is of their own doing and they are now sat on so much used stock that they can't shift and have such bad credit ratings that I can't see a way out for them.
Its just a shame that GAMESTATION will be dragged down with them.
They went about the business the completely the wrong way and ignored their online competition. They should have made their stores more hobbyist and sold cool merchandise and such to give people a reason to go in their stores. Why would I go into town to be told they dont have X game in stock ,when you can sit at home, order online and save yourself a bundle of cash.Poor management IMO.

Re: Feature: The Desire for Physical Media

OldBoy

I'm a fan of both TBH.Digital is great for rare retro stuff. For example if I want to play Radiant SilverGun I either need to buy a Sega Saturn and a copy of the game (That's about £200 altogether) or I can download it from XBLA for less than £10 with additional features. I know which one my bank balance prefers!! But their is still something magical about a physical product, especially collectors editions.
I am sad to see the demise of the manual though. What I don't understand is they claim that its to reduce environmental impact yet they shove loads of Health and Safety manuals in the box.Seriously there must have been half a trees worth of paper in my Resident Evil Revelations + Circle pad pro box.H&S in about a million different languages.I'd rather have digital versions of these (or preferably none at all!! Its a f***in video game ,I get less H&S s**t with a chainsaw!!) and a decent paper manual. You can't beat the smell of a nice fresh manual.
Not sure where the future will take us on this issue, I imagine publishers will push for digital to end used sales, loaning games etc but I fully understand people's reluctance because you don't really own anything. I suppose if consumers really don't like it they can vote with their wallets, whether that will make a difference remains to be seen though.

Re: European Virtual Console Set for Bumper March Crop

OldBoy

Only one I'll be getting will be Shinobi. I've either got the other games on other formats or I have no interest in them.Still this is a great line up and its nice to see Wii VC getting some love. Also Online multiplayer for Street Fighter is great.Wish they could have implemented this with other games a bit sooner though. SNES /N64 MarioKart with online would have been awesome.Seems a strange time to do it now the Wii is on its last legs but whatever.

Re: GAME Not Stocking Tekken 3D Prime Edition

OldBoy

@James. Obviously on a personal level the fall of a company is sad.As you said no one wants people to lose their jobs ,especially in these poor economic times, but my views were looking at the bigger picture. GAME is bad for the industry, full stop. Their ridiculous trade in schemes have helped the second hand market explode and the way in which they push used games over new is a disgrace.
Another issue I have with them is with lesser known titles, these are rarely stocked and if they have them at all they will most certainly be pre-owned. If you inquire about them ordering it for you , the response is usually a no or on one occasion the assistant just laughed at me before trying to get me to pre-order COD. Great service GAME!!
Don't get me wrong I would like to be able to shop in the high street for my gaming needs but it's just not feasible at the moment.
The fact that they ruined Gamestation, turning what once was a great little chain of stores which sold Retro as well, into a clone of GAME, is just the icing on a very sad cake.
So I'm sorry for your friends but for me the fall of GAME can't come soon enough.

Re: GAME Not Stocking Tekken 3D Prime Edition

OldBoy

Distribution problems LOL, yeah good one. What they probably mean is they can't afford to buy any copies.
Just desserts time GAME I'm afraid. You ruined Gamestation, made the second hand market crippling to the industry , and if it ain't COD or Battlefield you don't stock it. The shop is a joke! Noncompetitive prices will see any business go under, I for one won't miss it. Hopefully this will leave a gap in the market for some indie retailers to fill. /rant

Re: Nintendo Download: 16th February 2012 (Europe)

OldBoy

I've still got WarioLand and my Old Gameboy but I may download it for convenience , fantastic game!
I'm looking forward to the MGS demo and I may check out the Star Wars vid just to see what the 3D is like (I already know the film is rubbish!).
I was hoping for Sakura Samurai but I can wait. Good update all in all!!

Re: Welcome to the New Look Nintendo Life!

OldBoy

Just noticed the Facebook and Twitter stuff.....eeewwwwwwww ,not good dudes. Ah well guess I'll ignore it like I do on every other damn website!! Wish adblocker got rid of that stuff too!
Honestly feels like I may as well be on eurogamer though, please don't lose your identity NL!!

Re: Welcome to the New Look Nintendo Life!

OldBoy

Miss the flags like everyone else! It made it easier to ignore americans see how diverse this community is.Apart from that the new site is fine but holy mother, how big is the text? Is that for the DS lovin oldies that like Brain Training or summat?!!

Re: Talking Point: Wii U and the Future of the Online Pass

OldBoy

"But in a situation where most companies are offering things that should already be in the game"@zapdinos

Says who? you?

@28Do you know how much a big budget game costs, server costs ,staff costs etc ,etc. Comparing it to movies and music is lame. They both have a far longer shelf life and provide royalties from TV,Rental, Radio etc that they generate cash for a lot longer.Games are a lot more sh*t or bust, with the exception of Nintendo games of course.
Unless you are one of the big few you sink or swim on your latest release.

Re: Talking Point: Wii U and the Future of the Online Pass

OldBoy

Don't know why they just don't make the disc only readable in one machine and have done with it. As soon as the digital download only era is upon us they won't need these crappy online pass schemes and such.
I think they need to sell the games cheaper in order to stop the second hand market thriving.Maybe even split the single and multiplayer aspects into separate releases.
And @ the people who don't think the second hand market doesn't affect sales of new games..you are deluded!! Seriously. Why do people keep mentioning EA, F*** em'!! , its the small developers with out there ideas that'll be first to suffer. bothers me, how bout you?.
Anyhow I'm looking forward to DLC from Nintendo, New tracks for Mario Kart, levels for Mario even new stuff for pilotwings etc, to regenerate one of the launch games, sounds very enticing to me ,whatever the cost. Nothing wrong with DLC (when done right) , don't like it, don't buy it. Simples.

Re: Review: 3DS Circle Pad Pro

OldBoy

I was skeptical when this was first announced but having got this free with Resi I must say ,I love it!! It fits perfectly into my hands and the shoulder buttons are really nice too,the symmetry takes about 2 seconds of adjustment too get used too and Resi plays like a dream with it(still plays damn good without it, mind).
yeah its ugly but who looks at the mantelpiece while they're stoking the fire
I'm not sure the next 3DS will include a second stick,Lets not forget that twas Capcom who requested this ,other developers have just jumped on the bandwagon and offered the OPTION of CPP controls.
Anyhow I would say try it before you dismiss it,you never know you might change your mind, I did!

Re: Review: Newton Vs The Horde (WiiWare)

OldBoy

Ha. As soon as I saw @Brutus had reviewed this I just new it would be bad.
~though I did laugh at the word sphincter (come on, ...IT is a funny word!!) so maybe I'd like this~
Nice review Phil. Keep taking these hits for us
