On the fence about picking up Farming Simulator 2012 for 3DS? Would a free demo win you over?
European 3DS owners, you can play a free sample of the must-have farming title this week when the eShop updates with a downloadable demo. The official description is almost too exciting to publish:
Put on your boots, grab your Nintendo 3DS and get ready to head to the farm. Work a wide scenery with fields, roads, your house and farm as well as a small village, with the vehicles found in your generous fleet – all three dimensional in Farming Simulator 2012 3D. Take a seat behind the wheel of authentic farm machines from renowned manufacturers and get going!
By the way, did you hear about the magic tractor? It turned into a field.

I would post the advertisement for this game, but I don't think it is family-friendly, work-friendly, or indeed human-mind-friendly in any way.
So in some small way they won a marketing battle because I could equate that ad with this game.
I was about to call April fools then I saw it was posted on the 2nd.
Should have been at launch.
Sweet.
The sad thing is that Harvest Moon is one of the most fun experiences I've ever played, and it would probably get the same treatment if it were called "farm simulator". Speaking of which, when is Harvest Moon getting here anyway?
Awesome.
I have no intention of picking this up, but I look forward to playing around with the demo to see what exactly it even has to offer.
Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so happy!!!!
@oiiopo Tale of Two Towns should be out later this year, probably around September/October time
A legitimate 'Game of the Year' contender.
Well...it'll be interesting to try it out, thats all I'm saying.
The flood of crap shovel ware starts! its bad enough we only get one demo a week (if were lucky!) but why does it have to be for crap like this. How about a demo for a game people would be intrested in? kid ic....... mario tennis? ...... The Eshop is one of the 3d's best features, but they should look at the vita shop and have demos for most games!
@10 I like how you know this is shovelware without having played it. Some magical skills you have there.
I'm actually looking forward to this game. I like the idea of a "serious" Harvest Moon.
Farming games aren't shovelware — they're hoeware.
Possibly the most awesome thing you've ever said, James!
Not unless you're shovelling compost.
@12
Hahahhahahahah yeah nice one James!!!
I have Harvest Moon: A Tale of Two Towns, however I won't pass on a free demo.
@BudrSbasting It all matters on timing. Nintendo isn't allowed to say "I'm sorry we can't give you a demo because your game looks like it will suck" either. Sakurai is a busy man, he probably has no time with a Kid Icarus demo. Nintendo has only started their line of demos. Nintendo is likely to do a Mario Tennis demo, however the game comes out in a month, Nintendo might want to wait later when the game is closer to launch, or the game is at launch. The same goes with the Rayman Origins demo.
And they said the 3DS had no games!
Where is YOUR farming sim PS3? where is your combine harvester XBOX360?
Gonna make me a bail o hay, turn some soil, plant some ... plants...
I want a purple Tractor, I hope my Mii can drive it.
@OP
"turned into a field" LMAO!
"James said:"
"Farming games aren't shovelware — they're hoeware"
ooh. :/
That is amazingly bad.
great!
i was thinking about getting this
i will decide through the demo
Doesn't anyone like simulations? This is actually a very good game on the PC, I'm looking forward to the 3DS version in the USA...
Thinking of a new career in farming jokes.
@James Did I decect a heavy coat of sarcasm in your article, or were you speaking from the heart?
BTW James, your new job doesn't involve Sonic games. Are you o.k with that?
@Knuckles As you may know, I'm a huge Harvest Moon fan so the idea of a serious farming simulator is actually pretty enticing. Did I lay it on a bit thick in the article? Hmm, maybe.
Also, good point about my new job too. I'm out.
...A farming simulator? Europe you have my condolences.
Will I need to play Farming Simulator 2011, 2010, and 2009 to be able to enjoy this?
Unless that demo is going to download itself, open itself and start playing right in front of me...
I have no intention of even touching the demo.
Finally the Killer App the 3DS has been waiting for!! Can't wait to download the demo and give it a try.
The 3DS's swan song? I think so! ...'Cause it can only go downhill from here.
It's about damn time we got some market-cornering software. Stuff just got real.
I can't wait to take advantage of the Bio gas plant
The PC has a long line of these "X Machine/Job Simulator", and I've always been curious about them. I'll get this demo in order to check it out.
I have no intention of playing the full game (or the demo for that matter), but from what I understand, on the PC this was an extremely well made and received sim. I wouldn't call it a bad game, just a game that has a very niche audience (especially on the 3DS). Just because it's not an exciting release that many 3DS owners will pay attention to, doesn't make it bad. As far as anyone of us know, this could probably be the best game in it's category.
Then again, there's always the chance the port could be of a crappy quality...
farming simulator ????
wait. to play a farm game, you have harvest moon. put it realistic and it becomes boring or a chore. who had the idea this game would sell or even be a great idea.
geez
Al joking aside, the John Deere Heartland DS Farm game (not the proper ds name though) got really good player reviews, so maybe it holds something, I'm mildly interested myself.
Hey guys, guess what! I'm going to review this game. Isn't that exciting?!
I'm mighty roused.
@James Lucky you.
Actually its not a bad little game. In terms of simulation, its doing a pretty good job.
I bought this for my girlfriends son, and he loves this type of games on the pc, so giving him a chance of playing this on his 3DS is great!
I have already played the download and it looks cool
