I love a good P&C but will have to wait on some reviews for this. “1 person team” doesn’t fill me with hope. Don’t see how a single person can have all the skills to pull it off to a high standard. Comparing to Monkey Islands’ genius seems a bit far-fetched! Don’t think the writers of MI were also doing the art and programming, if you see what I mean!
@Dragonslacker1 it’s pretty straight forward once you are actually doing it as there is a little list of all the factors that dictate the score for each placement whilst you move around finding a spot for it and you can check before you commit each building.
The review wording doesn’t really explain it all that clearly but it’s all about proximity bonuses and penalties, and the floorspace size and shape of each building and the area of effect for the building you are placing as to how far that building “sees around” to take + or - points from buildings you’ve already placed near it. Some buildings have a very small range whilst some cover a much bigger area.
As example, zoom in to the top right of the last screenshot in the article carousel (one with Mansion selected). You can see it gets mainly bonuses from all those green items if they fall within the bubble of the building with the + points shown in brackets, but will get negative points if in range of a Circus or Wall (-3 for each instance).
So the aim is to plan ahead to leave gaps to be able to drop higher tier or rarer but potentially higher scoring buildings later to capitalise on multiples of “good” buildings within range and not having any negative buildings fall within that range. It’s pretty complex though as there is a lot of overlap of dependencies, and the scoring proximity ranges are usually quite small compared to the space things take up.
@The_Pixel_King I think first clips are Suzuka (with the big wheel and the bridge) but yeah it’s definitely the Monaco tunnel! Nice. Maybe it will be all the classic F1 circuits?
@SenseiDje I see your point but I didn’t notice anything like is being mentioned in this thread. I think these 2 guys are just “bantering” (ooops… is that a London Exclusive expression?!? ).
To be fair, I probably didn’t notice in the game as it would be normal language for me. Anyway if you do get a bit stuck, you can learn some new words, right??
@SenseiDje Well, just from reading your very well written message here, I’d say you have a pretty good grasp of English!!
The writing in this game is done in an almost minimal, efficient and precise way. Sentences are no longer than they need to be. Easy and fast to read, very “to the point” but with a lot of character and charm too, so I am 100% confident you would enjoy it and have no problems at all. Hope that helps!
Yea but the barrier with any rating systems unless carefully managed is the system can be gamed by developers and publishers, so with this method we might even see MORE shovelware at the top. Really depends what factors and weights they attach to the things they are using to create this personalisation.
I don’t see it happening to be honest what with Nintendo’s very “careful” approach and family-friendly concerns. Too many pitfalls and they don’t seem that switched on to the whole online environment as a company. Everything seems outdated and bad practice compared to what is and should be possible these days!
Their new cutting edge way to share screenshots “direct” to your phone being a prime example. What the heck!
@Zuljaras
I was thinking that too but it’s not a “release”, it’s just pre-order. They estimate 4 or 5 months before it’s ready to actually get it in your hands!
@Edu23XWiiU No worries. Dunno what people’s expectations are (of course on a ninja PC with force feedback + racing rig + wheel + pedals etc it will be different!) but can’t see how for a handheld anyone can call it bad. “Objectively bad” someone in comments said - well no, coz I think it’s fine. As I say when in motion you are focused on the road. The peripheral vision is detailed enough to look convincing and definitely the best looking rally game on switch.
Frame rate generally steady 30. At night and in the rain, yes, it can start feeling sluggish so of course a bit more grunt from the hardware would be appreciated and help a lot. Anyway I played a bit more over weekend and my opinion hasn’t changed. Tarmac stuff is too sensitive, but gravel / mud / snow is really quite nice. I got used to making really small steering inputs but constantly. Which if you think about it is exactly how rally drivers use a wheel too. It’s constantly putting on, taking off and opposite steering to keep the car dancing the right way. Looks intense IRL when your life (and co-drivers!) is at stake! Not for me hahah. Hats off to the nutters that do this in real life!
I’m quite surprised about the reviewers strong feelings about the trees and scenery visuals in general.
To my eye this looks fantastic in motion. Never noticed anything about the trees or draw distance pop in. Some stages you can see ahead for miles! And the overall feeling of “travelling” through a real changing landscape is really well done. The tracks are really detailed and the routes very interesting and realistic. Totally no issue about trees and blur ones for me.
Definitely take the time to change controls to right stick for throttle/brake, left trigger for hand brake. Once you tune into this it gives much better control being able to apply half throttle or brake just gently. Tarmac tracks do seem to have too much grip, so car becomes super-snappy but after getting my eye in, the ‘slidier surfaces’ are really enjoyable. Have to concentrate 100% to not make too many mistakes (key thing is to look ahead as much as possible!) but that’s the name of the game! I rate it highly personally.
@Lionyone - From the store page (pasted below) looks like cross-platform (I think that’s what they mean!) multiplayer and the Friend DNA features are in!
@60frames-please - Sadly no mention of 60fps

Game is awesome. Really tightly designed and plays a brilliant game of tension where every move matters. But much less reliant on luck / RNG than something like XCOM. All the information is there, you just need to plan around it and know how best to use your crew. Feels more puzzley than a “traditional” tactics or strategy game where positioning is the main decider. Amazing game. Almost ready to triple-dip on it!!

Re: Star Wars: Republic Commando Dev Apparently Investigating Switch Frame Rate Issues
Where do we have to watch to know if they ever make a performance update for handheld mode on this game?
(Deep down I’m thinking it won’t ever happen or they would have done so before launching the darn thing.)

Had my eye on it too. Where did you hear about the bugs?

Re: Feature: Best Nintendo Switch Flight Sim And Space Combat Games
Can’t believe Air Missions: HIND was not listed either. Probably more “Sim” than all the others in the article (Russian helicopter simulator).
I haven’t played on Switch but have it on Xbox and the flight model is pretty convincing IMO.
And yes Ultrawings as someone commented is definitely a true physics based sim! Come on NL
