This is truly a great game. Back in the time period that this was released, Metroid was a welcome change from Mario and Zelda's happy, sunny atmospheres. It also provided a huge world to explore. Good thing I'm an Ambassador; it got me this and Fusion for free!
Interestingly enough, Christmas for me involves not getting new games on Christmas but playing them with my cousins. There has not been a single Christmas when my two cousins and I have not been racing neck-to-neck in Mario Kart DS... Still, though, Nintendo played a part in it.
Sadly, this is a game that I will likely never get to enjoy. There's something about M games that will always bug me when I'm playing them. It's kind of like watching an R rated movie, you know you can handle everything (beyond handle, but actually enjoy) but you still feel like if you wouldn't let five year old kids play it, you shouldn't either.
It was just the way that I was brought up; it's been hardwired into my way of thinking. What's funny about this way of thinking is that there are some T games who have more blood and gore than M games, but the T rating doesn't bother me. I myself am perplexed by this, but I don't think I will ever be able to overcome that big M in bold type.
Oh my... I am so glad I finally convinced myself to pre-order this game. I had been debating whether I should, because I already have Super Mario 3D Land pre-ordered. In total I would be paying $110, but it seems now to be well worth it!
@James If you say not to look at something, then of course we'll look at it. That's just the way society works, like the fact that bacon is good for you.
The difference between Super Mario Land and Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins was like the difference between a penny and a fifty-dollar bill. It really was just breathtaking how much of an improvement it was over the original.
And by the way, which is better: Wario Land or Virtual Boy Wario Land?
I honestly didn't even have an N64 until about last year when I found a complete one and a bunch of games (including SSB) for like $30. Since then I have expanded my collection some, but I do have to say that the controllers don't work as well as they should and that the graphics have aged horribly. I hate complaining about graphics, but I can't help but think, "This looks so bad compared to today's graphics." I know it isn't fair, because the systems are a decade or so apart, but it just bugs me.
Oh, well. The N64 had its epic games and its laughably bad ones cough Superman64 cough.
I remember my GBA very fondly. It was the first ever gaming system that I did NOT have to share with my cousin. I loved it. I would play Dr. Mario, Boxxle, Marble Madness and FX Race (all GB or GBC games) like there was no tomorrow. But one day, I saw my cousin play Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2. I finally got my hands on a copy of the game and played it to death. Sadly, one day, the internal save battery died, and I stopped playing GBA.
One day, however, I found Metroid: Zero Mission at a yard sale. The guy who sold it to me described it as a "robot running around" (mental facepalm), and I liked the idea, so I bought it. The game later went on to become my favorite 2D game of all time (yes, even moreso than Super Metroid) and introduce me to the Metroid series.
I have since given my old GBA to my cousin's sister (also my cousin) and bought another one. I still play the new one, but my very fist Arctic White GBA will always have a special place in my heart. I owe the GBA a lot. It began my love of video games and made me the gamer I am today.
I, too, have 5 Game Boy VC games but only 3 3DS retail games. That's kind of sad, but it can't be denied that Nintendo is not putting out enough AAA titles. Right now, the only game I have my eyes on is SM3DL, and that comes out in November! Nintendo really has to step up their game, is my point.
Not gonna buy it. No online multiplayer, no reason other than the graphics for me to get it since I already have the original, and the local multiplayer won't work for me since I know no one who has a 3DS.
Cool feature. I like Star Fox, but not enough to buy SF643D. I mean, I have the original SF64, and there's no online multiplayer. Plus, I have SM3DL to think about...and pre-order!
Isn't it amazing how we spend the week wondering what the new download is going to be, find out, bash Nintendo for releasing garbage, then look forward to the next week even though we have an idea of what it's gonna be? You'd think we'd learn. Well, some of us anyway...
But I really don't care, because I just got my Giant Mii AR Card in the mail today, got Super Paper Mario new for $20 (Nintendo Selects) AND I just got 10 free NES games. Retro goodness! And new stuff goodness!
What the flippin' heck, Nintendo?! I am not affected by this problem, as I live in the U.S. of A. But if I couldn't buy my Virtual Console games due to a massive brain fart, I would be veeeeeery angry. I can imagine how I would react if Metroid II came out and I couldn't buy it. (I am not the owner of a credit card)
I agree with others in that Nintendo as a whole isn't taking the whole online thing seriously. For one, the irregular update times, like the eShop update. Instead of saying "The eShop update will be available June 6th at 8:00 PM PST", they said the evening of June 6th. It ended up coming online at like 9:37 PM. Completely irresponsible. I should have a set time to download things, not have to keep refreshing until I get lucky.
I agree with @8 and @9. Zero Suit Samus is, and always has been, overly sexualized.
However, there's nothing bad about that poseable Power Suit. Though it sucks that her hand is in a fist. No finger movement. Then again, it would be really hard to make all those joints and all...
Considering Urban Champion just came out, I expected this to be a sucky VC week. You know, bad things lead to more bad things.
How wrong I was! I'm playing it now, but this will be my last VC purchase until Metroid II and Super Mario Land 2. Y'know, unless Nintendo decides to release Prime Trilogy on the 3DS eShop for...$11.05. That's how much I have left. Then again, that'll never happen, so I'm keeping my money!

YESSS!
That is all.
Re: Review: 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors (DS)
@Zach Oh, come on. A Metroid in a box is a much better and safer gift!
Re: Nintendo Developing New Game Genres to Revitalise 3DS
They should make a game that uses the 3DS's IR port to turn a toaster into a Nintoaster! And then maybe that could become the Nincinerator...
Re: Review: 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors (DS)
@Buob True, but I don't want to buy it because I'll be able to re sell it for $5 at the most, and I don't know anyone who does have the game.
Re: 3DS System Transfer Tool Arrives With November Update
Knowing Nintendo, I was expecting this to be available in the middle of next year.
A pleasant surprise.
Re: 3DS Gets Official Plans for Hulu Plus and 3D Video Recording
When I saw the Hulu logo, some random realiziation went off in my head and I remembered someone telling me it was free.
This...bah.

Yeowch.
I would probably pay that much for a Metroid bundle, and maybe not even then. That's a lotta dough...
Re: Finally, Nintendo Owns SuperMario.com
Nintendo did what it had to do. [Insert applause]
Re: Talking Point: The Most Memorable Nintendo 64 Games
Loved the N64. It's just a shame that the SNES has aged so much better...

Re: Feature: Remembering the Game Boy Advance
The GBA micro wasn't THAT bad. I still prefer it over my GBA original, but I don't have the SP yet so I'm a bit biased.
Re: Review: Kirby Mass Attack (DS)
This is my first non-forum post in a while!
By the way, great review! I'll be sure to pick up the game when I can find it used.

I just want a new Metroid.
However, the circle pad addition would be a possibility also. Along with free bacon cake for everyone.

...well, actually, I forgot. But just pretend I did!
Re: Could the Wii U Controller Do Full Body-Tracking?
Man, that controller still makes me think "Cool" even after three months of knowing it exists!
Re: North American NES Ambassador Games Announced
Eh. I'm getting all of them just because they're free. Even though Yoshi got a 4...
But really I'm just glad Metroid appeared on the list. That's enough to shut me up. Can't wait to download Fusion!
P.S. I wrote this comment whilst listening to Metroid Metal. Escape, to be exact.

A 4 for an NES Ambassador game? Oh noes...

No, I'm kidding. It would be awkward to find a guy in the Power Suit. I'd make some changes to make it my own.

If it isn't a new Metroid game, I will personally Shinespark over to Nintendo HQ, barge into Reggie's office, and threaten to lay a power bomb.

@WumboXpert Ugh. Hope that NEVER happens, even as a joke!
