Re: Talking Point: What If Nintendo Became a Third Party?

MetroidMasher17

me screams
But, yeah, I definitely don't want Nintendo to go down the path that SEGA did when the Dreamcast flopped. I can't wrap my head around playing a Mario game using a DualShock 3.

Besides, the only failure Nintendo has had in all of its existence, commercially speaking, is the Virtual Boy. It can afford ONE more.

From my point of view, Nintendo is not offering enough high quality AAA titles, hence the 3DS's commercial failure. The system, on the other hand, is amazingly amazing. Nintendo needs to find a balance between making systems and making games, and improve the quality of the whole process. How many times has Mario's face been slapped onto a box and made that game sell well?

If Nintendo did become a 3rd party, then they could admittedly focus more on making games. However, if Nintendo became what SEGA has, the video gaming world would be a very different place.

Re: Feature: 20 Years of the Super NES

MetroidMasher17

The American Super NES looks like an awkward tank with no wheels. The PAL version looks cooler.

On a different note, I'll finally be getting a Super NES! I wanted to get one some time ago, but I spent my money elsewhere (Pokémon mini, Virtual Boy, etc.). I'm doing some looking around and hope to have one by the end of October!

Re: Current Wii Model to be Discontinued

MetroidMasher17

Bah. One more console for me to track down someday in the future. Counting redesigns, I still lack the NES redesign, a SNES and the redesign, a GameCube, and now this. On the handheld side, I need the Brick, a GB Pocket, a GB Light, GBA SP and the redesign, DS phat, and DSi XL. Wow, that's a long list, made even longer.

Re: Talking Point: The Great Nintendo 3DS Price Drop Debate

MetroidMasher17

IMO, Ninty epic failed as far as marketing goes. Like the Netflix fiasco. You can't make a system & expect everyone to know what it is and what it does, and they kinda sorta did that in some places.

Software, software, software. If you look at every 3DS game released thus far, 3 are worth buying. That means that our lineup, at least in NA, is putrid, nicely put. There's no Mario, Metroid ,Star Fox, Mario Kart, Kid Icarus, MGS, or Resi 4. These are all games that WILL BE be coming out (maybe, in the case of Metroid), but should've been there from the beginning. Surprise, the 3DS doesn't sell fantabulously.

Price... Well, even with the price drop, the Wii still costs less. And right now, the Wii has a lot more AAA titles to choose from. $250 is pretty steep for not that many new features over the DSi XL.

DLC is not good right now. Let's Golf 3D is not enough. Bring on the VC games, big games like Pokémon R/B/Y, 3 a week. Every week.

Re: Wii U Controller Patent Reveals Interesting Features

MetroidMasher17

Speculation Mode, activate!
Eh... so, anyway, back to Wii U. I read a lot of big words back there. I can safely assume, therefore, that Wii U will have a wealth of new features that we haven't heard of, never seen by anyone outside of Nintendo. I wonder why they always have to be so secretive... Then again, the 3DS has a lot of features that haven't been used enough, like delivering new software through SpotPass to name just one, and look at its sales numbers. What I'm trying to say is that it doesn't matter how powerful a new system is unless there exist games to take advantage of that power, not just moneymakers.

Re: Feature: 3DS Games Worth Buying Before Mario

MetroidMasher17

BIT.TRIP SAGA- Mebbe. One day far from today when I can find it used. Just mebbe.

Cave Story 3D- Unless there is a super cool feature I haven't heard of besides the 3D, no.

Star Fox 64 3D- I have the original N64 game, and I understand that there will be no online. Huuuuuge missed opportunity, so no.

Pokémon Rumble- Same as BIT.TRIP SAGA. If I find it used one day, I might pick it up.

Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Survivor Overclocked- Eh... not really interested.

Metroid Prime 3D- YESSSSSSSSS! Wait, what? It's not on the list? Awww.

Also, I find it interesting that NA got three games that the rest of the world didn't. A lot of games skip us [insert Operation... I forgot what it's called, the one that wants Xenoblade and the Last Story and all that].

Re: Feature: What Happened to Metroid 64?

MetroidMasher17

Everything happens for a reason. Metroid 64 wasn't developed because Nintendo felt it couldn't live up to Super Metroid. There's your reason.

Anyway, having never played Perfect Dark, I can't say that a Metroid similar to it would or would not have worked. I did play GoldenEye 007, though, and I can't even get past the first level, in part because I suck at that game , and in part because I played Metroid Prime before 007 and, I guess, expected more out of it. And, to put it simply, the GameCube is better than the N64 in terms of processing power. The likelihood of things going wrong technically was decreased. I guess that if Nintendo wanted to do something, they wanted to do it right.

Re: Flame Red 3DS Reaches North America on 9th September

MetroidMasher17

@PureTrainer They should make a yellow one, too, so there would be red, blue, and yellow 3DS systems. Get it? Pokémon Red & Blue Versions, and the Special Pikachu edition, also known as Yellow Version.

This means that there will be no such thing as a red North American 3DS that is in the Ambassador Program.

Re: Review: Go! Go! Kokopolo (DSiWare)

MetroidMasher17

I read this review while watching a turtle try to climb up onto higher ground. I should go help it... Well, that was irrelevant.

Great review, Thomas! I plan on saving my cash for Metroid II, so I probably won't buy this. But it does sound fun.

WARNING! THIS COMMENT CONTAINS SARCASM. IF YOU HAVE HEALTH PROBLEMS RELATED TO SARCASM, CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE READING THIS COMMENT. IF PROBLEMS ARISE, PLEASE CALL 1-80-YOUR FACE. Oh, wow, a bad game on WiiWare. That NEVER happens, right? Ever.

Jeez, I understand Nintendo has to make money and all, but WiiWare is like the House of Agamemnon of video gaming. It's one bad thing after another, and it happens for a prolonged period of time. Fortunately, in Greek mythology (that I have to read for my new school), the curse is lifted after...what, 3 generations? Nintendo is capable of improving WiiWare...they just don't.

Re: de Blob Developer Blue Tongue Shuts Up Shop

MetroidMasher17

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
...that is all. XD

No, wait, that is not all. Aaaaargh! THQ is a company that I see everywhere, and when I see their sorry name on a title, I avoid buying it unless there´s a strong reason to. THQ has a history of bad movie games, and movie games are maybe the most disgusting of all games because the developers know that they don´t need to put any effort into the game. Just the fact that the movie´s name is on the box guarantees a hefty number of titles sold, at least enough to make a profit off of. Therefore, 98% of all movie games have absolutely no effort put into them because the developers know people will buy it. For me, THQ is BadMovieGames R-us, so to know that they shut down one of their best studios, one who isn´t money hungry all the time, is beyond revolting.

Re: Talking Point: The Future of Metroid

MetroidMasher17

Given that Metroid is in my name, all of you know that the second a new Metroid was announced, I would drop whatever it was that I was doing and shinespark over to my nearest video game store and pre-order it. Then I would find out that it wasn´t available yet for pre-order, and I´d be sad...

But that´s beside the point. I am obviously hoping for a brand new Metroid with a wealth of new ideas, different gameplay opportunities, and, above all, the level of polish that Nintendo has put into all Metroid titles (yes, all of them) IMO. If that doesn´t happen, then I´d be more than happy with a Metroid Prime 3DS remake. And if Nintendo treats the 3DS like they treated the N64 (no Metroid at all besides a few cameos), then I will personally go to NOA HQ, barge into Reggie´s office, and threaten to lay a Power Bomb.

EDIT: Also, wouldn´t it be cool to make a Metroid game detailing the events after Fusion? Samus directly disobeyed a Federation order, so maybe Samus is being chased by the Federation. At the same time, the Space Pirate race has been resurrected via cloning and various DNA samples, along with Ridley and the Metroids (the usual). So this time, Samus must evade and battle both the Space Pirates and the Galactic Federation. :0

Re: Feature: Samus Aran, Gaming's Leading Lady

MetroidMasher17

I still have friends who are surprised to discover that Samus is a girl. And, honestly, I don´t get what the big deal is with women as heroes. When you´re in the Power Suit, most of your strength is mechanized, so all you really need to be is intelligent. Smart enough to know what to do, where to go, who is and isn´t an enemy. If the Power Suit had AI that classified any and all living creatures as enemies, everybody would die. Samus is the one who prevents that from happening. And, even though men and women have differences as far as their bodies go, aren´t we equal in the mind, where it matters?

Re: Review: Metroid Prime 2: Echoes (GameCube)

MetroidMasher17

There's hard. Then there's really hard. Then follows ridiculously hard, impossibly hard, and just undoable. At the end of the line of difficulty is Prime 2: Echoes. Man, I'm stuck on Quadraxis only because I'm playing the Trilogy version... if it was the original GameCube version I'd have died in real life a LONG time ago! So yeah, great game, but waaaaay too hard.

Re: Nintendo DS Sales Figures Make Wii's Look Tiny

MetroidMasher17

That big DS lite in the picture is epic. I want one of those!

Anyway, I am happy to see that the DS and Wii sales are what they are, and disappointed to see that the 3DS isn´t selling as well. I think that 3DS is an amazing machine with woefully poor support from the Big N. With the exception of OoT 3D and a few others, most 3DS titles have been shovelware (read NL´s reviews of 3DS games). Nintendo needs more good titles, and Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D Land just might not make up for the hordes of bad games in the eyes of some gamers. My 3DS is getting lonely, I only have 25 Miis in my StreetPass Mii Plaza, and I got my 3DS at launch...maybe if Nintendo stepped up their game, it could find a few friends!

Re: Review: Metroid Prime (GameCube)

MetroidMasher17

Metroid Prime deserves nothing less than a 10. Great review!

However, I must disagree in Jacob´s statement that the soundtrack is not very addictive. Try typing in Tallon Overworld (Theme 2) on YouTube. Or Phendrana Battle. Prime´s soundtrack is one of the best ever IMO.

EDIT: @The_Fox: I am, too.

Re: Talking Point: Your 25 Years of Metroid Memories

MetroidMasher17

I wonder where Metroid keeps all his missiles...LOL just kidding!

Happy 25th, Samus! I made an account on NL just to comment on this article. I´d meant to for a while, but never got around to it. This article was that final shove in the right direction.

My first Metroid game was Zero Mission. I got it used, so I ended up starting in the Space Pirate Mother Ship, as the previous owner had already beaten the game. I was a lot younger then, and I thought the Space Pirates were lobsters...

I also remember conversing with my neighbor about the Metroid series. He mentioned that there were many more Metroid games, three, to be exact. I assume he was speaking of the Prime Trilogy. For all of my six years of age, I was flabbergasted.

A VERY long time afterwards, I visited my cousin who had a GameCube and a pirated copy of Prime 2. Both of our efforts combined could not beat the Dark Alpha Splinter. I thought Metroid was stupid back then. Please, please, don´t kill me!

More recently, I bought a copy of Prime Trilogy at Kmart. That game was what really got me into Metroid. BEST. GAME. EVER. I have over three days of play time clocked on Prime Trilogy. That was when I got interested in collecting the rest of the Metroid games. Since then, I have obtained every single Metroid game (including Pinball and First Hunt), though not in its original form, e.g. Super Metroid via VC, NES Metroid via Zero Mission.
In my eyes, Metroid trumps all other video game series by over 9,000. Yes, even Zelda. Yeah, it´s fun and all, but Metroid just has better memories for me.

I would also like to express my extreme disappointment in NOA for not even giving Samus a simple ¨Happy Birthday¨. Epic Fail.
