I've just reached the beginning of Chapter 2 and thought I'd share my initial impressions.
I love the character designs and setting. There's a charm to the crumbling and run down home that John and Sam live in. Their characterisations are really fun too. The juxtaposition of Sam's happy nature and John's stoic silence gives lots of potential for growth and drama as the story progresses.
The combat is simple and effective, I've not found it to be unwieldy so far, although I have had a few near misses with death, but that's because of controller drift rather than gameplay issues. The difficulty has been fair and balanced too. The bosses have had good mechanics and been entertaining to fight.
This leads me on to the puzzle elements of the dungeons. So far they have been relatively simple and logical to work out. I hope they evolve as the game does or they could end up being a bit repetitive.
I've seen a few comments regarding the pacing and the amount of text slowing the gameplay down and while I haven't been bored my the story so far, I did have the game crash at the end of chapter 1 and I did have to go through a fairly long cut scene all over again which was a bit of a chore. I hope there is at least an option to button skip through long dialogue sessions in a future patch.
The in game music is lovely to listen to, and fits each scenario well without becoming grating. Dark and ominous in the dungeons, and light and breezy in the towns. I wouldn't mind getting the soundtrack to listen to the tunes in my own time.
I'm enjoying Earth Born, the game within a game and the fact there is another full game inside Eastward itself is a great aside to the main quest and I can already feel like I'll be losing several hours into that alone. Cooking is also a novel addition to the game, with the fruit machine reels giving the chance to improve your cooking results a nice change to the standard cooking mini games.
Overall, as you may have guessed, I'm thoroughly enjoying Eastward and while it's not perfect, It's certainly scratching an itch I didn't know I had. I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good action RPG and is looking for something to plunge into for a few hours.
I can imagine this would eventually get picked up and released in a physical cart for the Evercade handheld system like several modern GB indie releases have been recently, such as Quest Arrest, Deadeus and Chain Break
@Kochambra Thanks! I checked the eshop online so I could remote download and it wasn't listed there. Just checked it direct on the switch and found it. This pleases me greatly.
Doesn't look like this is in the EU eshop yet. I hope it comes soon though. The Blackwell games are great, so hopefully if this sells well, we'll get them posted too!
I picked this up in the sale a few days ago but only had my first play earlier today. Instantly fell in love with the whole aesthetic of the game and I can tell this is going to be a game I will remember for a long time. And knowing there is more content to come is the icing on the cake.
Am I understanding right that when the v2.0 update releases that adds more quests and monsters, this will be the end game content that is currently missing from the game? I read an article yesterday that seems to leave the game unfinished after the last quest and only teasing more content if you talk to npcs.
Why not release all of the game instead of having to patch in the end game content later?
@drachma Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate is on sale on the eshop quite regularly and has been for the last 18 months on and off. I got mine from there for under £15. It's worth checking it on Deku Deals as it has a graph of its price drops.
I love the little details in BotW. For example if the weather is changing from rain and the sun comes out while it's still drizzling, you will find a rainbow in the sky. I don't think I've ever seen such detail in a game before.
Sorry to burst anyone's bubble, but it looks like my prediction is correct. The 'new Dizzy game is a version of Fast Food and the only way to get it is to buy Fuze4 Nintendo Switch. After that you can get the game for free with all the source code to play about with.
I got very excited about this, but then saw a video about The Oliver Twins recreating Fast Food Dizzy in Fuze4 Nintendo Switch, so I suspect that it could be that being released. I could be wrong, and it's a brand new proper Dizzy game, and if so I'm all over that. But for now I'm hesitant.

Re: Review: Cult Of The Lamb - Animal Crossing Goes Bad In This Satisfyingly Stressful Sim
One of my followers asked me to make another follower eat a bowl of poo. Any game that makes me laugh so hard at stuff like this gets my vote.
10/10 would make them eat sh*t again.

@Deerock69 I backed Eiyuden Chronicle and am very very much looking forward to getting my grubby little mitts on it!
Re: The Shadowrun Trilogy Is Coming To Nintendo Switch In 2022
@brandonbwii Yeah these are ports of the PC versions released a few years ago. Really fun Strategy RPGs, and I think I'll be double dipping on these.

It's probably a pipe dream these days but I'd love to see the two Dungeons and Dragons games

Not heard of any of these. Are they that bad NL were ashamed to show screenshots of each game?
