Re: Pokémon US National Championships Set To Commence Next Week

KiwiPanda

@Raikoo - Fighting a Terracott team is very frustrating >__> Juniors, Seniors, or Masters? The guy I lost to actually had the same team, iirc o_0
@SphericalCrusher - No problem, VGC is fun to talk about~ VGC 2014 won't have any news anytime soon, seeing as it will be with X/Y. But when dates and locations are announced, I usually find them at places like Nugget Bridge, Smogon, and Marriland's site (They're all competitive battling communities). I'd say that, unlike this year where there was a Fall and Spring regional, next year will have only a Spring event, so there's still a good year. There's no real chance to get into the event this year, though, it's a bit too late.
If you want to test out your team for general competitive purposes, though, you can always use a simulator. I'm using Pokemon Showdown (Pokemonshowdown.com) right now, I highly advise checking it out. Requires no download.

Re: Pokémon US National Championships Set To Commence Next Week

@SphericalCrusher - There was a regional event in Athens to qualify. I was testing my finalized team, breeding my 'mons, getting IVs straight, going to move tutors... it was sad when I lost my game. Went in 2011 to the Southeast regionals (Also stationed in Athens, as it is every year~), and lost in the second round of Juniors, the competition not being Swiss. And I fell to someone who placed third at Nationals... that hurt. Although he did post a regional warstory (Nice for a ten year old, huh?), and I came closest to beating him. No EV training, it was a cool year, I guess. The events are lots of fun.
Anyone around the area can still play in the Last Chance Qualifier, too, then earn themselves a ticket into Nationals the next day!
Can't wait for VGC 2014, and X/Y haven't even arrived. And with them, a whole new metagame... >:3 (This year I will be downloading, so I can't go and lose my game again
Can Pokemon be distributed with EVs/Natures (And possibly even IVs) premade?

Re: Talking Point: The Effortless Social Charm of Animal Crossing: New Leaf

KiwiPanda

@Marakuto (Post #3) - This pretty much sums up my thoughts. The customizational aspect really provides more and more to do- with so many options, there's, quite literally, always something to do at any time of the day.
And yeah, I really need to get some more sleep ._____.
@Belmont - I'm still exploring the options, and that's something that has been escaping my mind. But couldn't you change what the animals' speech sounded like in Wild World?

Re: Super Smash Bros. Won't Feature Cross-Platform Play Between Wii U and 3DS

KiwiPanda

I was hoping for cross-play... but just because it isn't going to be featured has no major difference in my opinion on the game. I'm more worried about the character customization, at this point; hopefully there won't be any modifying movesets, or at least not having that as a game-changing ability. Although it is rather hard for me to think of what else they could mean...

Re: Feature: A Brief History of Pokémon - Part One

KiwiPanda

I can't even express how Pokemon-crazy I am, and how much of one I always have been... Sapphire was my first video game. I devoted hundreds of hours to getting ready for VGC '11, my first real video game tournament, still in Juniors. And after I lost in the second round, it kind of hurt. A lot >.< But I kept up with the competition, seeing who placed in nationals and things like that... and in the end, the person I lost to was one of the few Smogon and Skarmbliss users that did VGC at the Juniors level (He ended up getting second or something at nationals)... and I came to find I was the closest to beating him at my respective regional event (Plus I didn't EV/IV train, I did it old-school >:3). I got back with the game, and I'm a PokeManiac, now...
Nice article, @Raylax
Plus because of Pokemon, there are plenty of creepypastas to read... :3
Facts You Probably Don't Care About: The Lavender Town Theme was technically done five different ways across the span of a beta, Japanese originals, other originals, FR/LG, and HG/SS.

Re: Pokémon Tretta Lab Coming to the 3DS This Summer in Japan

KiwiPanda

The concept and everything is interesting, but I agree that this will not be coming out of Japan anytime soon- as others have said, look at all of the Battrios... I suppose this might be popular in Japan, but I think it would be wiser of GameFreak to devote to X/Y, and then with any excess time, possibly start an Orre project. The latter is what would really excite me

Re: Review: Mario's Super Picross (Wii U eShop / Super Nintendo)

KiwiPanda

I'm well into the original, and I enjoy it, although this wouldn't be a day-one buy, for me- if it comes to the States, it'll loiter around for a good few months until a gloomy day comes around and I'm in need of some fresh new picross. Not to say I don't care for this coming over, it's something I'd still enjoy seeing in the Wii U's shop.

Re: Nintendo Download: 28th March 2013 (North America)

KiwiPanda

I've waited literal months for River Kingand HarmoKnight. But now all I get is the eShop glitch where I can't open it up... I hope I don't have to send my 3DS, I really want these titles D:
EDIT: Did the force update and my system is great~
Downloading River King now

Re: Review: Legend of the River King (3DS eShop / Game Boy Color)

KiwiPanda

From the first time I saw it in the US eShop (Trailer), I was excited
Beforehand, I had never heard of it. Harvest Moon might be coming out at around the same time here in the US (Still no release date for either here >:[), so Natsume may be getting lots of VC buys sometime soon.
@Joshers - For the US, I believe all that has been announced for both HM and River King is that they're coming
I also read that there was a part where you could raise a fish in your personal aquarium. I'll assume that's not true or at least not for this VC version?
Great read and review. Cleared some stuff up for me and confirmed that I'll be getting it as soon as it comes out.

King Dedede:
"Mate for life. My carefully cultivated flab can keep our baby warm while you venture out blindly into the tundra to find and gather enough food to keep all three of us alive, because that's certainly fair."
I thought I had seen the best last year, but this stuff is brilliant! These features are the things you can't find at other sites and what makes NL great, and it's good to see more being made. Great job, Chicken :3

Re: 3DS Version Of Super Smash Bros 4 To Be Shown At E3

KiwiPanda

The only real issue is that a Wii U disc has more space than a 3DS cartridge, and something has to fill that room up. I am a crazy fan of the Smash Bros series, and I would really hate it if the 3DS version ended up without something like the Subspace Emissary.
Furthermore, I'm curious to see how the Gamepad will be used.
How the games sell against each other will be something. The 3DS controls seem much more superior to the Wii U's (The 3DS works just like a Gamecube controller). But as I said, the Wii U will probably have more data and something will happen with the Gamepad. Overall I'm definitely in for the 3DS version, I can play anywhere and with comfortable controls rather than having to use a Wiimote or somehow use the Gmaepad.
And what about hints at new games, like the way Pit is in Brawl? With lots of luck, we might see something in the gameplay...

Re: Feature: The Biggest 3DS Games of 2013

KiwiPanda

Professor Layton VS Ace Attorney. Something just seems attracting to anything Layton involved since I've played Miracle Mask.
The only saddening thing about 2013 video game lists is that Smash Bros is never featured, and I know it's true that it won't come out. But at least we'll get a few announcements!

Re: Game Freak: The Pokémon World Will Be Evolving In 2013

KiwiPanda

@Banjogeek - I doubt this is announcing the 6th Gen, there's still quite a lot of time for that. If everything goes as usual, the next game will be a Hoenn remake, i.e. Sky Emerald, but I don't see that as being an "evolution" in the series... I can say I'm a bit of a Pokemon fanboy, and I don't see anything wrong with the 3D models @Ideal mentioned... though I don't quite understand what you're picking at with the "use of the 3DS's internet functions", @Ideal.

Re: Game Freak: The Pokémon World Will Be Evolving In 2013

KiwiPanda

Pokemon on 3DS, for sure. People were wondering what was going on when W2/B2 were announced for the DS, what would happen if the next game did the same?
I don't think anyone even mentioned a main-series-game on the Wii U, because that would be terrible. It's fine on handhelds, if Gamefreak or Nintendo want to make a Pokemon game on a console, make a game like Battle Revolution or a 3D one like XD: Game of Darkness, that would be amazing.
I really want to see the Hoenn region again 2013, too.

Re: Game of the Year: Nintendo Life's Staff Awards 2012

KiwiPanda

Paper Mario deserves to be right up there for sure, the 3D is good, its puzzles are arguably hard at some points, and it is exceeding my expectations for the switch from a console to a handheld game. The only thing that I could possibly disagree on is that NSMB2 got second; I haven't played it, so I can't say anything bad about the gameplay itself, but the overall game looked a a bit expected. No big surprises. I would have hoped that Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask would've ranked third behind KI:U and PM:SS, but the three that were selected are good titles, and I can't complain much.
NSMBU ranking above Nintendoland is arguable, but Nintendoland made a much bigger splash than I was expecting.
Overall, good ranks.

Thank goodness some other people in the community realize Victor S. is the most unoriginal cocky artist on Colors 3D. A block button does sound like a good idea.

Just saw your avatar and remembered liking it months ago. Cudos to you for making that!

Re: Father Gender-Bends Link For The Benefit of His Zelda-Loving Daughter

KiwiPanda

I think that it's a fine thing to do. I'm still pretty young, and IMO, if the father's daughter is anything like me and the people I know, she won't hang onto a protagonist's gender rather than thinking about the main storyline and overall game itself. When someone reviews a game, they don't take away some points because they don't like the fact that the hero is a male or a female (or at least not a reviewer I know of), they assess what it has in it. When I talk about video games at my middle school, whether the hero is a woman or a male never comes up, it's what you get to do that is the bigger topic, along with the occasional talk about music, visuals, and achievements, none of which involve the star, very much. His daughter should play some Zelda games that aren't hacked, with a male being the hero. When she realizes what's what, there's no big deal; she still has an awesome game to play. I don't see anything bad about changing the gender, though, just nothing really game or life changing, either.

Re: Review: Paper Mario: Sticker Star (3DS)

KiwiPanda

I'm definitely going for this one. I love the series, and this looks much better than I was expecting. The only question now is if I should wait for Christmas. I'm actually okay with the familiarity as maybe a few places might end up being a little bit nostalgic. @Dashie I'm sure you'll like it, just make sure to play some of the rest of the series, too
