Re: Review: Shadowrun Trilogy - A Fantastic Trio Utterly Let Down By Shoddy Ports

Kestrel

@kingbk Hardware is irrelevant to the quality of ports. It's only ever down to optimization... the companies that can't be bothered to optimize Switch ports are unlikely to put any more effort into Switch Pro or Switch 2 ports.

Anyway, this really isn't surprising. HBS is terrible at optimization and even worse at support. The mobile port of the Shadowrun games mentioned in the review? Yeah: it doesn't exist any more. A minor iOS update broke the game and HBS just abandoned it.

Re: Reggie: Nintendo's Transition From Switch Will Be A "Significant Challenge"

Kestrel

Yeah, a Switch 2 would definitely be ideal. But inertia can be a helluva thing and Nintendo has a very long history of failed consoles following up successful ones.

The only real exception is the 3DS, but even then that's only because Nintendo made a huge effort to turn things around after an enormously disappointing first year or two. (Something they pointedly did not do for the WiiU.)

Re: The Best Cat Games On Nintendo Switch

Kestrel

I actually liked Cat Quest more than Cat Quest 2. Objectively the second game may be better, but it's also bigger and grinder. Takes a lot longer to finish and you have to spend a lot more time fiddling with the inventory. First game was a lot more straightforward and enjoyable IME.

Re: Pre-Orders For Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Special Edition Open Now (US)

Kestrel

I on,y feel obligated to get this because I also have the CE Steelbook for XC2 (which was so easy to just order off Amazon). I've had the Nintendo Astor's page open in my browser for weeks, checking every day. And now... yeah, I kinda doubt they'll have any stock left by the time the web store is functional again. What a mess.

Re: Talking Point: If Breath Of The Wild 2 Launched Alongside New Switch Hardware, Would You Upgrade?

Kestrel

@Giancarlothomaz
Trailers show significantly more 3D assets being rendered in BotW2 than BotW1... and the first game is plagued by slowdown.

Which could be explained by difficulties porting to the NS from WiiU, but Nintendo has consistently demonstrated an incapacity to hit even the lowest performance standards with the NS. We all know an upgraded Switch is inevitable... like the N3DS or DSi or N64 Expansion Pak.

And just like how Majora's Mask could only be played on upgraded N64s, I expect BotW2 will only be playable on whatever that upgraded Swotch winds up being. It's possible BotW2 will be compatible with OG Switches, but I wouldn't count on it--and I'd expect even worse performance than BotW1.

Re: Feature: 10 3DS Retail Games That Might Be Cheaper To Buy Digitally While You Can

Kestrel

Fire Emblem is the game that really sticks out to me. I have a Conquest cart, which is "valuable" and will likely only ever become more valuable (still kicking myself for giving away, not even selling my copy of Fire Emblem Wii) — but only for collectors.

It's essentially worthless for anyone actually interested in playing the game, right? As it's only 1/3rd.

Just completely wild.

Re: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Is Finally Getting DLC

Kestrel

I'd been hoping for DLC for a long time, but... I'm pretty skeptical about this. If they're not adding anti-grav and glider segments to these tracks, they're gonna be real boring to play... and the sheer quantity of tracks will ensure they dominate online play.

Re: Feature: Nintendo Life's Biggest Gaming Regrets

Kestrel

If I were to list out all of the games I traded in as a kid desperate for just a bit more money to spend on games, I bet I could make half of y'all weep. At least.

The rarer ones I can't even afford to re-purchase now, as a "proper adult."
