Re: Nintendo is Suing Mobile Game Company Colopl For $40 Million

Jackrov

@maceng Anyway, I hope I am wrong and there is more to it than meets the eye. I wouldn't like Nintendo to turn into the bad guys here.
In general, a software gameplay mechanic shouldn't be patented. A virtual joystick is a strange bridge between physical device (can patent) and a software feature (in my opinion, should not be able to patent).

My bet? The rumored Zelda mobile game is going to control in the exact same way, and they want to make it clear that they have the right to use this control scheme.
It sucks for the developer of this mobile game, in all honesty I have seen a gameplay video and don't see anything wrong with a virtual joystick.

Re: Guide: How To Beat Zelda: Breath Of The Wild's Hardest Shrine Quest, Eventide Island

Hey, this article should be marked as spoiler.
At least put a warning!
It can appear as a discussion of a typical shrine (albeit a difficult one), when in reality it is a BIG surprise, one of the best of the game! I wouldn't have wanted to have it spoiled, luckily I had already found it by myself.

Just yesterday I refrained from telling to a friend about it (I want him to discover this by himself), and here I find it splashed on the front page!

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of the Nintendo Switch Presentation?

Jackrov

@iGen I agree with you.
What turns me off most is the lack of a bundled game, and the price of the accessories.
It's like Nintendo is trying to milk early adopters before a price drop, rather then aggressively trying to build a user base as early as possible.

Also, where are the games? Pikmin 4? What is Retro up to? Form software? Seriously, what were they thinking with this launch lineup?

Re: Nintendo Has No Plans For Additional Super Mario Run Content

Jackrov

There is a fundamental misunderstanding of the platform here.
You need to update this game to keep sales coming, especially if you consider that it's not exactly bursting with content at launch.

Personally I think that Mario's debut on mobile should have been a little more grandiose, delivering on all the attention and publicity that it was able to gather.

Re: Talking Point: The Leaps and Falls of Super Mario Run's Launch

Jackrov

I purchased Super Mario Run to show support.

I'm not happy when I report that in my opinion it's not that good.

There are some things in this project that are at odd with themselves.
The fact that you must collect all the coins in one run, led me to constantly restart a level if I missed a coin near the beginning, or kill myself to rewind the level a little bit and catch a coin I had missed. I don't know if this is the way the game is supposed to be played but it is a little absurd.

It's like the worst parts of Super Mario 3D World.
In that game they made what I believe is a cardinal sin in game design (no trace of the same mistake was found in 3D Land or the galaxies game): some of the green stars you need to collect are obtained by getting 5 green coins on a short time limit. Miss one coin? Replay the whole 10 minutes level for another chance.

In Super Mario Run the level are shorter, but the same thing I listed above happens all the time. I honestly don't know if it's that fun.

Re: Review: Slots - Pharaoh's Riches (Wii U eShop)

@dizzy_boy

Exactly this. This is the point.
No gateway experience to real gambling should be allowed on the eShop.
Vittorio De Sica was a great italian movie director. He was also addicted to gambling. It is known that when he was a young boy and played for the first time in a casino and won, an old man told him: "It would have been better if you had lost". That's because the old man had already gone through the consequences of the addiction, and probably seeing that light in the eyes of the kid made him foresee the future.

So for the lack of any real stakes in the game, all for the better.

Re: Tell Us What to Do in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Jackrov

I've seen a lot of footage.
I'd like to know how big a tree you can chop down.
Everyone has successfully taken down the slimmer trees, but no one has tried to take down those HUGE trees you can find in the forest.
I understand you may not be able to take them down but who knows? I'm very curious about the visual feedback.

Re: Wii U GamePad Offers Nine-Axis Controls

Jackrov

REMEMBER SKYWARD SWORD?
Sometimes you had to press down on the d-pad while aiming at the screen.
This was a concern in many reviews!
Well, when you pressed down on the d-pad while aiming at the screen, you did reset the relative orientation of the motion controls.

No more need for that!

The magnetic control takes care of that for you.
