Re: Nintendo Confirms Final Week Details For Its Super Smashing eShop Sale

JMDS

Was looking forward to seeing how far Star Fox went down, but this is still a bit much for a digital download for me. I already own the physical version, of course, but a digital version would be neat for convenience. Oh well, I'll put the money towards the MK8 DLC pre-order.

Also, what the hell is with the picking and choosing with these discounts? Are these REALLY the only Pac-Man games getting reduced? There's several more options, like the Collection game for GBA on the Wii U VC. Why not that? Why are Pokemon X and Y not reduced? This could have been way better. Overall, a disappointing series of sales for me.

Re: Mother 4 Is On The Way, But It's Not Being Made By Nintendo

JMDS

This is destined to have fate of most projects like this. It will be shut down by Nintendo, and everyone will realize that the ONLY safe way to do something like this is to not NOT ANNOUNCE IT IN ANY WAY and just suddenly release it one day.

Also, that title takes big balls.

Re: Retailer Lists Super Smash Bros. Wii U for 21st November

JMDS

Did anyone else have it in their head that it would be some time in December and are really excited about this? I mean, I know this is the obvious optimal time, but I just wasn't quite sure.

AND I'M STILL NOT QUITE SURE, because let's keep in mind that this super isn't confirmed.

Re: A New Yoshi's Island Title is Coming to 3DS

JMDS

There's something off about the art to me. I mean, clearly it's "off" from the original style in that it's somewhat different...maybe I mean "off-putting".

But hey, if it keeps the good ol' gameplay and throws in some 3D-centered gameplay, I'm sure to be interested.

Re: Nicalis Would Like To Bring Monaco or Spelunky To A Nintendo Console

JMDS

I think it's important to remember that Fez can still be a good game even if you don't like what Fish had to say. He doesn't seem to like something that you like. That's fine. This does not affect Fez in any way whatsoever. The game does not in some way contain or brush off onto the player what some perceive to be his "toolness". Why is there even so much of a focus on him right now? I don't get it. He made some comments that big Nintendo fans would get all fussy about. Maybe THAT'S why there's a focus on him here. Fans like over-defending their stuff. Self-validation.

Personally, I'd like to see all three of those games on Nintendo's stuff. I haven't played any of them yet, but would like to.

Re: Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D Swings Into a Release on 24th May

JMDS

I never got to play the Wii version, and with the 3DS being my favorite system right now...I'm giddy like a school girl over this. I sincerely hope that the port goes over well, and surely they would give you a roll button and not make you shake the 3DS or something...right? Anyway, I'm extremely excited to be able to get this so soon.

Re: Talking Point: Review Scores and Unwinnable Arguments

JMDS

I think the fact the numbered scores are there at all is kind of silly. They only seem to be a means of making an argument. I get why reviewers would want to include them, though. They appease the readers who just want that simple, easy answer. Not that that alone is a very good "review" for a game. The score itself isn't a "review" at all.

As far as the whole graphics, sound, story individual rating idea is concerned...I think that that's even more silly, because each of these aspects of a game aren't all held to the same standard. Halo 4 has great graphics, but so does LocoRoco, but to judge each of these by the same scale wouldn't make any sense. Same thing with the story. Why would you judge Final Fantasy's story on the same scale as Super Meat Boy? I guess you could provide those scores just in the context of THAT game, but then they would 1) be pointless, at times, because something simple like Super Meat Boy would just get an auto-10, and 2) still be put side-by-side on the lists of the site, like almost every site with this system does.

Re: Nintendo Download: 28th February 2013 (North America)

JMDS

I'll be trying the Castlevania demo, of course. I've been feeling pretty fifty 50/50 about it so far, so this demo will surely topple me over one way or the other.

Other than that, I think I'll be waiting up for a Coaster Creator review. Hope it turns out alright. I can say now that I find the style of it that we've seen so far is hideous...but if the review turns out to be really positive I'll be re-interested.

Man, I really wish they would keep pushing with the 3D Classics titles.

Re: Review: Picdun 2: Witch's Curse (3DS eShop)

JMDS

@RR529 The gameplay sounds pretty inviting. I've had a hard time getting into this genre in the past, and this seems like a somewhat accessible title. To be honest, I haven't completely put it out of my potential purchases. Just wish the story-based aspects were a bit more compelling and less...well...you know

Re: Review: Picdun 2: Witch's Curse (3DS eShop)

JMDS

@RR529 Well, you're assuming that the people with complaints don't have the same disposition towards other games, first off.

Also, I think that the focus on these specific characters and how they interact with you in this game extenuates the problem more-so here than in something like DoA. In DoA, the sexualization, to me at least, doesn't appear to be as blatant. Though they are indeed blatant in DoA. Also in DoA, the characters don't pander to a specific character you're playing the direct role of in a sexual way at all. When I win a fight with Kasumi, she doesn't grab her boobs, look at the camera and say "wow, you're soo strooong", she says something like "I fought with honor! I'm awesome!"

So yeah. I think it's different here.

Re: Review: Picdun 2: Witch's Curse (3DS eShop)

JMDS

I'm always kind of put off my games that blatantly use sex to help sales. It's distracting, tasteless, and in this form pathetically self-validating. Too bad, the rest of the game seems legitimately interesting. I WANT to play this game, but I don't want it to try way so hard to make me some stuttering weeaboo thinking "aw yeah, this girl totally wants my D."

Re: 3DS Version Of Super Smash Bros 4 To Be Shown At E3

JMDS

I dunno about you guys, but I think some of the magic will be lost in the portable version. Don't get me wrong, I'm getting it and I'll play the heck out of it, but it won't be the ultimate couch game anymore. Maybe some of you DO sit around with your friends and their respective 3DSs and play multiplayer games a lot...but I certainly don't get to that often. Hopefully they will anticipate this and really beef up the online play, even though that's nowhere near as great as actually couch multiplayer.

Also, put Magnus in the game, goshdernnit.
