@ZephyrTortera Don't worry about it. In general, gaming website commenters don't know what they want and are impossible to please.
Deviating, gameplay-wise, from previous entries in a franchise elicits feelings of betrayal from the...uh, not-smart, who will then claim the new entry can't possibly live up to what the old titles accomplished (an example would be people belittling 3D World, saying they wanted another SM64). These people don't actually want the old gameplay, but rather they want to return to how THEY were when they played that old game (the simpler, happier time of childhood).
You also can't make a game that refines old gameplay, adds QOL improvements, and incorporates new ideas that mesh well with the original gameplay. Internet peoplez will call this a blatant cash-in on nostalgia, and/or claim the developers are creatively bankrupt (recent examples would be Yoshi's New Island, NSMB2 & U, and Zelda:ALBW).
Had to trim this comment down for brevity's sake, but just understand that it really doesn't matter what people you don't know think about a video game.
Ya know what's funny, I was never interested in the Persona series, nor Etrian Odyssey, but I'm really looking forward to this game, haha.
Does anyone know if Persona games usually include both Japanese and English voice tracks? I've been watching the little character bio videos Atlus has been putting on their YT channel the past few Fridays, and now I've grown accustomed to the Japanese voicework.
@ThomasBW84 Since this game seems to be a pretty technical platformer, I'd appreciate it if you could tell me whether the single player and time trials modes are compatible with the Wii U Pro controller.
@ThomasBW84 Does the single player mode support the Wii U Pro Controller? Also, can the color powers be controlled with traditional inputs (like using the joystick for Rocket, Drill, and Eagle, or tapping the A button for Rhythm, etc)?
@ThomasBW84 Two questions: Can the story mode be played entirely with a pro controller?
Regarding off-TV play: In the director's trailer for this game, there seem to be some puzzle-like sections where the gamepad and TV show different perspectives of the same situation (you can see this about five minutes into the trailer). What happens then if you're using off-TV mode?
@element187 @Caryslan Your comments are a breath of fresh air in what is usually a swamp of contempt and pessimism. I feel the same, but sometimes it's best to step back and remember this is just the internet; nothing anyone says in these comment sections affects how Nintendo operates. At all.
Regarding especially toxic commenters, it's best to just let them stew in their own mean-spirited comments. Don't reply to what they say, or even acknowledge them, because all they're looking for is a reaction. You can give a well-made argument, but they'll never hear it; they'll just belittle you with the all-encompassing, insta-win "fanboy" insult.
TL,DR: Don't even bother with these comment sections, just read the news articles and play some video games.
It's all about the games. Wii U isn't doing THAT poorly when you consider its only real games are Nintendo Land and NSMBU (and Pikmin 3, but that just came out).
In any case, I'm not super worried. Besides, Pokemon X and Y come out in October.
@LordGeovanni Sorry your 3DS was stolen. That sucks. But remember, that's not a system failure.
This article is about Pikmin 3, so I thought the OP was specifically complaining about the Wii U, a home console; that's also where my mind was when making my post.
When I see people complaining about the account thing with a home console, I'm not sure why they're afraid of their console breaking (especially a Nintendo one). Unless you're playing rugby with it, I can't imagine a Nintendo console just up and dying on you.
" if I don’t like it, don’t buy it, right? Frankly, that attitude doesn't help anything"
Please elaborate on this.
You seem to be saying this HD remake is lazy because it's only been improved by X, and you personally wanted it to be improved by X+Y, where Y is the content and mechanics of a new Zelda game.
Did Nintendo pull the rights away at the last second, or did EVO not bother to check if they had the rights until just recently? It sounds like the latter to me.
The charity still got the money, right? That's more important than whether a video game tournament can play a specific game.
Before the 3DS started cranking out the games (starting with 3D Land and MK7), people thought it was simply a DS with a 3D effect. Look at it now; lots of people know that it's a brand new console!
Things will improve once Nintendo's holiday lineup starts getting released.
@Mason Thanks for the info! Motion aiming is cool, but I'm not a big fan of switching between buttons and touch in fast games like this. Hopefully there'll be pro controller support.
I love that this was posted the same day as the review for Project X Zone, a game NO ONE thought would make it overseas.
Region locking only matters when lots of cool Japanese games don't get localized, and Nintendo have stated they're working to improve themselves in that regard.
Shining Force seems interesting. I might pick it up eventually.
On a somewhat unrelated note, I really wish NLife would start including number of memory blocks each game requires in their reviews, especially for eShop only games like Might Switch Force.
Was Lost World playable on the E3 show floor? I'd like to know if the wisp powers of the Wii U version NEED the touch screen to aim/activate/whatever. That's actually the deciding factor for me in whether I get the Wii U or 3DS version, haha.
Has Atlus commented on whether SMTIV's eShop price will be lower than the physical release?
@CanisWolfred Not to creep, but you seem to be a pretty passionate, or at least knowledgeable, SMT fan. Between this and Soul Hackers, which would you recommend as an introduction for someone new to the series?
The image for the pre-order bonus says the costume is based on AC: Black Flag, not AC3L. It does vaguely looks like the AC3L heroine, but how else would Ubisoft design a skin for a female character that instantly reminds you of AC? (aside from just giving her Ezio's hood)
I like that the enemies in the stealthy part of the video had Splinter Cell designs. What a clever reference!
Considering the 3DS, Vita, and Wii U all had relatively weak launches, I'm just going to start thinking that a console doing poorly in its first 6 months is now the rule, not the exception. Besides, the specific number of Wii U units sold doesn't really matter, so long as it's profitable enough for Nintendo to keep making home consoles.
I disagree with Pach on his "third-parties across the board" bit. Western third parties, sure, but honestly who would get a Wii U/3DS to play their games? Nintendo has a Wii U collaboration title with Atlus (who is also making SMT4 for 3DS, and gave us a new IP in the form of Code of Princess), Sega recently said they have a Wii U project or two in the works, Konami made a 3DS Castlevania, Square has Bravely Default and Deus Ex, and Capcom is making Ace Attorney 5 and Monster Hunter for Nintendo systems. That seems like pretty healthy third party support to me.
Some critics didn't like ZombiU because they saw zombies, guns, and a first-person perspective and thought it was Call of Duty's Zombie mode, not a survival horror game.
Some critics didn't like Mirror of Fate because when they looked at the game's box, the words "Lords of Shadow" were in their blind spot, causing them to think it would be a Metroidvania RPG.
Everyone sees the "Lords of Shadow" bit in the game's title, right? If you go into it expecting an IGA Castlevania RPG, you're going in with misplaced expectations.
This is what happened with the IGN review, and is similar to criticizing the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon and Ranger games for not having pokeballs or an Elite Four.
This game isn't perfect, but still very good, and it seems to mix the strengths of LoS with Castlevania 1,3, and 4 gameplay. I like it, and I'm sure if an IGA Castlevania comes to the 3DS sometime down the road, I'll like that, too.
@ThomasBW84 Retail downloads are included in these articles, even if a game's release date is on a different day. Do these retail downloads become available on the game's release date, or are they rolled into the nearest weekly eShop update (Monday for Europe, Thursday for US, etc)?
I'm guessing it's the former, but I just wanted to get confirmation (I wanna know if I can get MoF tomorrow, or if I'll have to wait until Thursday, haha).
Seeing all these comments got me wondering what the most commented article on NL is...
Anyway, delaying Legends until nearly a year after its original launch date is borderline unacceptable, and Ubisoft better make sure it is FLAWLESS with all that extra time.
I'll still pick it up for Wii U, but I'm canceling my preorder and waiting until it's cheap. Not that it'll matter, though; releasing this game at the most competitive time of the year, against giants like GTA, Skylanders, and Pokemon, will do more damage to sales than what any single person on the internet says they'll do.
I keep going back and forth on whether I want this game or not; before the released date was pushed back to 2013, I was really excited, but now I'm definitely waiting for the demo/reviews. IGN has put up quite a few gameplay videos this week, and while the combat seems entertaining, the character models and animation leaves a lot to be desired.
It is a little strange that Nintendo was ignored for LoS 1 and 2, but then given exclusivity for this companion game. It makes sense that they didn't put this on the Vita, though; aside from the obvious factor of the laughably low install base, there would be no use for the second control stick.
I wonder why Epic Mickey 2 and Power of Illusion were released when they were, as clearly they were unfinished products. They were both released on Wii U launch day, which doesn't make any sense; Power of 2 was multi-platform, and Power of Illusion was a 3DS exclusive.
I try to keep my expectations in check with these videos, but if we're talking conspiracy-theory level predictions:
The date for this video can be read as 01/23, and the year can be rearranged to form 0123 as well. The next number in these sequences is 4. EVEN A CHILD COULD DEDUCE THIS NINTENDO DIRECT WILL BE ABOUT MOTHER 4.

@Gavin_Rozee
Club Nintendo account. I don't understand why people get so upset about console-tied purchases.
Re: Pikmin 3 Shifts Slightly More Copies Than The Original in First Week in Japan
The Pikmin 3 numbers do not represent a full week of sales. Media Crate's sales info came out under a week after the game's release.
Re: Soapbox: Retail Games Cost Too Much To Download From The eShop
Will these soapbox blog posts be outright replacing our weekly complaining talking point articles, or are they simply in addition to?
I think the convenience of always having the game on my system makes up for the digital version costing the same as physical.

CoP is fun, especially with a friend, but it might as well roll the credits once you get the weapon that lets you damage enemies while guarding.
Mirror of Fate is really great, but way too easy! Even on hardcore difficulty, there's almost no challenge.
