What's the hype for this? Came out 6 years ago, has bang average reviews - looked at gameplay and it looks really bland. Also looks like the sort of game that won't be fun under 60fps.
@Rika_Yoshitake Seems like they’re reviewing it compared to Xenoblade 3 rather than reviewing based off the target audience. You wouldn’t pick this up if you weren’t a fan of SAO already. That said, it’s Nintendolife making reviews they pretty much just make it up as they go along.
Seems a bit harsh considering the target audience will pretty much just be SAO fan base. Generally games that focus heavily on story will be fairly slow to get going to avoid burn out. Look recently how Xenoblade 3 divides up the story perfectly and without the gameplay to support it would definitely be a slow burner.
Combat seems good, story seems decent when it gets going. That’s what these games are designed for.
Other games you’ve reviewed recently for the same cons have had way worse scores. Performance issues around boss fights in a game where small mess ups can be death is quite a major issue. Very generous score I think. Does look like a solid 8/10 without those issues.
@Chocobo_Shepherd it’s Nintendolife. They quote random Twitter nobodies who make ‘predictions’ as if it’s gospel and then go silent when none of it happens.
@nimnio Alright mate. Average game, but they’d recommend we pick it up. Expensive but apparently not bad. However buggy and crashes a lot. Apparently there’s no new ideas too. But yeah, sure, top quality article if you like. 😂😂😂 everyone knows the journalists here are just students having a bit of fun.
@phartsy Triangle Strat was focussed on telling the story in multiple different ways and scenarios. What it lacked in a masterpiece of a story definitely added replayability, ways of unlocking new characters and made NG+ really viable as enemies scaled.
I loved Octopath but again, instead of focussing on a narrative overall it went for the Live a Live approach which was also good.
Even FF7 has its flaws. In terms of story it’s nowhere near some of the other FF games imo. But it does make up for it in other ways. It just had good timing with its release. Still a great game.
Not XC3 yet as I’m playing lots of others first but those games are always made to a super high standard.
Not sure what ‘story feels simple by today’s standards’ given many triple A games lack a compelling story and some of the finest stories in video game history happened pre 2000s.
Still, it’s good to read a review that isn’t scored by a fangirl and isn’t biased.
@Beaucine Well, you could look at things practically or you could give a biased review with two big flaws and still give a 9/10. This is Nintendolife though, the people on here try their best I'm sure.
@Beaucine As a player, yes. Not as a reviewer. There is a huge difference. I think Romancing Saga 2 and 3 are great, I love them but I wouldn't review them for a big website and give them 9/10 because they have obvious flaws. I know the journalists on here are just students doing it for fun but if I was striving to be professional and asked to review a game with 2 reasonable flaws to its USPs I probably wouldn't give a 9.
Slightly confused by this review as 'slow burn plot' in a heavily story dominated game and 'backtracking and repetitive sidequests' in a game that has a lot of side quests and exploration. I've seen reviews on this website get knocked down to a 7 or an 8 for even just one of those flaws.
I know the author is a 'huge lover of JRPGs', but it's important to acknowledge flaws properly and not have biased articles. Trails From Zero averages about 6th or 7th in many people's rankings of the Trails games, checked a few polls and ratings from various sites.
Trails is an awesome series and I look forward to playing this one as I haven't previously but these do seem like flaws big enough to knock the game down to at least an 8/10.
Don't try and blame the 'leakers'. You do this every time a Direct comes along. Some random 'insider'/'leaker posts about these ports and you make 16 posts about it like the Director of Nintendo has just come out and announce them. You get taken for a ride every single time and likewise so do some on here.
@Gohanjin Because it's a fairly low budget game and the design time/resources were fairly limited. It wouldn't surprise me if they didn't really have many artists as most of it just looks like block out.
@Rika_Yoshitake You mean like these so called journalists who post about 'reliable leakers' before every direct and then go totally silent after each one...?
'Nintendo Direct confirmed tomorrow - our most trusted sources leaked WW HD and TP HD as well as a Metroid Prime remaster. Will it finally be confirmed?'
Honestly I love WW and TP but you mentioned this the last 17 directs!

Finally a decent and accurate review from Nintendolife.
Re: Skyrim Anniversary Switch Players Seem To Be Experiencing Performance Issues
@Rutkowski87 it’s Nintendolife. They don’t even play half of the games they review.
Re: Skyrim Anniversary Switch Players Seem To Be Experiencing Performance Issues
Really glad the person reviewing this mentioned it in their article. Sounds to me like they didn’t actually play it. 😂
Re: Pokémon-Inspired MMO Adventure Temtem Now Has Over 1 Million Players
@SladeStrife It really doesn't help with the headline 'Pokemon inspired mmo'. Just say Temtem has more than 1m users.

Rise of the third Power? One of the best turned based JRPGs I’ve seen in ages! Don’t remember seeing it from you guys.

You’d recommend an average game at $40? Either it’s better than its score or you are pure evil!

Re: Review: The Legend Of Heroes: Trails From Zero - A Stellar RPG And A Stand-Out In Falcom's Storied Saga
@Beaucine Generally you start at 10 then mark it down wherever the flaws come in. But just for you, no equations - random scores only.
