More games are having a shot are recreating a Pokémon-style experience nowadays, and one of the more successful titles is Temtem by the Spanish studio Crema Games.
The developer finally released the game on the Nintendo Switch earlier this month, and now just weeks later has announced it's surpassed one million players. It shared this news via the official social media account:
We thought Temtem was a "great" experience - awarding it eight out of ten stars. It's worth a look if you're a Pokémon fan who has been seeking a "steeper challenge". Read our full Nintendo Life review.
There's also cross-play and cross-progression, a full fledged story campaign, player customisation, trading and competitive battling and it's "100%" co-op.
Have you tried out Temtem on the Switch yet? Tell us below.

Never heard about this game...
I have my doubts they have that many active players...
@Rika_Yoshitake I doubt how good the games is lmao.
Congrats to Temtem! Absolutely love this gem of a game. Being able to play the game all the way through with my girlfriend is a blast!
As to the comment section here. Once again proving Pokémon fans are the worst. Can't be happy with the success of their own franchise and definitely can't be happy with the success of another. I used to think Sonic fans were the worst but this fan base proves its a cesspool more and more everyday.
@SladeStrife It really doesn't help with the headline 'Pokemon inspired mmo'. Just say Temtem has more than 1m users.
@SladeStrife The reason I’m not happy with TemTem is because the devs rode the wave that sword and shield created within the pokemon fanbase. There are decisions which actively make fun of pokemon as a whole, like the coward’s cloak.
@Impoh They use that headline to get more clicks. #truth
@VoidofLight Devs ride others success all the time, and if your salty about a game franchise being made fun of. I hate to break it to you but Pokémon does that to itself all the time. Team rocket, Pokémon designs, plot lines. It always pokes fun at itself. Pokémon red and blue had a whole section where it breaks the 4th wall and you meet the developers.
Not everything has to be serious. Especially not a game about forcing small adorable critters into balls, cards, cubes, or whatever and forcing them to battle for money. It's a game. Get off your high ponyta and enjoy it.
Enjoying the game so far, there are some stuffs that I dont like but other like the Battle system, the sinergy between temtem movés, the stamina system, the MMO part, all that combine make at least for me a better monster taming experience than recent pkmn release lately.
@SladeStrife All I'm saying is that the devs of temtem kind of ruined the game by riding the sword and shield hate train. The Coward's Cloak makes fun of those who use EXP share, calling the people who don't want to grind for hours "Cowards". The game itself also has a very flawed evolution system, where the TemTem don't have a set level where they evolve, but instead evolve after a number of levels pass after you receive them.
I'm not claiming "TEMTEM POKEMON CLONE, SO IT BAD", since I like more monster taming games than pokemon, and I'm starting to even somewhat fall off of Pokemon itself, but it baffles me to see how TemTem makes so many bad decisions just because it wants to cater to the disgruntled fans.
@VoidofLight TemTem does what Nintendont essentially is the slogan.
Inspired by Pokemon?! I'm not seein' it.
jk
Played it on Steam but lost interest after a while. It's a competent monster catching sim for sure but as someone who grew up playing Pokèmon since day one I'll always prefer that.
@SladeStrife There was three comments before you and none mentioned Pokemon.
Man what a great game, havent bought it yet, but played on my brothers account. Amazing battle system. Will wait till the game gets cheaper.
@SladeStrife Ironically you're the first one to mention PM on this comment section, i think you just wanted to start a fight with PM fans to be honest.
Kinda sucks you can only buy new tho. Used copies are essentially worthless. Due to the stupid temtem plus requirement that you only get in sealed copies or cost $20 extra otherwise to add to your account for full online game features (trading, chat).
@The-Chosen-one I'd buy it for $20.
@VoidofLight wait. What do you mean by levels pass?
@Travisemo007 I mean TemTem don’t have set evolution levels, but depend on number of levels gained after obtaining them to evolve.
@Travisemo007
Yeah me too, 20 is the max i would spend.
@VoidofLight Pokemon itself has always ridden on the coattails of other successful monster collectors. Everything about Pokemon as a whole can be argued as just taking ideas from Dragon Quest games including monster designs (Pidgeotto being the exact same bird as Bludgerigar but recolored, Charizard is just Red Dragon with wings, Gligar whom was meant to be a Kanto Pokemon looks almost exactly like Rumblebee, etc. Bear in mind these are just a FEW examples out of DOZENS that are super easy to notice when you look through Dragon Quest's older monsters), not to mention even the lore aspect of keeping monster buddies in capsules was done years before Pokemon by Dragon Quest.
They also did this with Yo-Kai Watch. Just about every "new innovation" with Sun and Moon can be easily argued as being a shoddy, watered down feature they took from Yo-Kai Watch games after Yo-Kai Watch 2 outsold ORAS in Japan as well as YKW anime getting better JP ratings than Pokemon anime.
If you have such an issue with TemTem "riding the hype" and that ruins a game for you, then it stands to reason Pokemon deserves FAR more criticism for such given they have done so for far longer.
Also, SWSH could have avoided the EXP problem by just giving the EXP Share an off switch like before.
Just one example of a needless problem they put on themselves with empty words given the devs themselves have said they want players to choose how to play for themselves but then remove something that lets them do that.
That's not even accounting for all their other empty words regarding SWSH such as promising game balance casually and competitively from removing monsters and yet you can get a Ninetales with Nasty Plot and Fire Blast before the first Gym, which is Grass, easily. Also the competitive format managed to be more busted than prior.
Meanwhile, you have monster collectors like Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 3 Pro and Yo-Kai Watch 3 having over 700 monsters after free DLC and still having much better balanced competitive formats as well as a ton of actual casual content despite both being 3DS games that so easily make SWSH look bad.
@VoidofLight so like not a set evolve level for each team but an evolve level that varies every time between multiples of the same tem?
@Travisemo007 It's effectively like "This temtem won't evolve until 10 level ups" instead of "this Temtem will evolve at level 10"
@VoidofLight I see now. Pretty much making everyone put in the effort even if they caught it like a mon that was 2 levels before it would normally evolve.
Have there been any tems that require 30 levels before evolving? Or what is the highest needed you've seen? Also do already evolved tems appear in the wild? So it actually tells you how many levels needed?
@Travisemo007 I have no clue as to if there are items or a way to check in game honestly. I had the game long ago during it’s launch, and haven’t played it since.
