For me, F-zero 99 is a perfect example of a game I didn’t know I wanted. The concept totally fits with the aesthetic of the original games universe/story. The perfect stepping stone for a more in-depth modern F-zero experience! (Hopefully!)
If you took random screenshots from both NES Zelda and NES Hydlide (and removed the player sprite) you’d still be able to tell the two apart. Not so sure it would be as easy to do that with BOTW and Genshin.
Also, I want to point out I do not have any problems with Genshin, but I can definitely see why people say it looks “rip-offy”. BOTW’s massive cel shaded open world and freedom to let the players avatar occupy just about any space within it was a big deal back in 2017. The level of exploration that climbing and gliding afforded the player were iconic and done in a way that had not really been seen before. (Seriously, I keep seeing in the comments that BOTW lifted these mechanics too. From what? Spider-Man on PS1? Snaking up mountains in Skyrim? 😂)
I don’t think Genshin is a rip off of Zelda, but I definitely think a couple BOTW’s main defining mechanics that made it special were lifted wholesale and dropped into Genshin and it’s jarring. If that wasn’t the case, this article wouldnt be a thing in the first place lol.
Even at $50 a year that’s only just over $4 a month… that’s still honestly nothing. Way cheaper than buying original hardware and games AND cheaper than the old VC business model. People just love to complain.
@AtlanteanMan you’re insulting yourself by wasting your time crying paragraphs in the comments section about a cheap online service that tons of people enjoy. Lol.
It seems to me that Nintendo’s approach to their online service is very much in line with Gunpei Yokoi’s “lateral thinking” school of thought. Functional, entertaining, and cheap. It’s a winning formula that’s proven itself many times for the company. No matter how hard people complain about fine details and bells and whistles and say things like “well it’s not state of the art enough or on par with this or this or that”: The GameBoy. We all know how that went down.
@Yosher ok but all of those features you listed that you’d like to see come to Nintendo’s online service are very much in line with what other consoles are currently offering. The main difference being that switch online is only $20 dollars a year, compared to game pass which is $50 every 3 months or PlayStation plus which is $60 a year. You’re obviously entitled to your opinion (never said you weren’t) I just don’t actually see what’s so bad about Nintendo’s price point for what they offer. $20 a year is literally nothing.
@Yosher please explain how $20 a year is too much for what the service currently offers. It’s easily the most convenient, stable, and inexpensive way to play a nice sized chunk of classic NES and SNES games. By what other means are you going to play theses games? Original carts and hardware nowadays are 5 times the yearly subscription price, and do I really need to explain why piracy is not a recommended avenue? So what’s the thought process here?
Sad that people have to be so full of hate and fear for nuances in characters’ personalities in a video game that no one is going to make them play. Have some respect and treat others how you would want to be treated. Easy.
@Kidfunkadelic83 So I have a fun fact for that topic! Link’s name is actually kind of a fourth wall breaking joke. He literally gets his name for being the “link” between the player and the game. He’s supposed to represent YOU in the Zelda game world. That’s why he never speaks and only shows the most basic of emotions. The Zelda series is mostly about exploring environments and solving OTHER characters personal dramas, not your own (Link’s). As for the Mario cast not having full personalities… I just feel like that’s a can of worms. Tbh, Mario is already a little on the non-politically correct end of things. If he was given a heavy personality and full voice acting I doubt it would take long for people to just see him as an offensive Italian stereotype marketed towards kids.
WWHD is my favorite and I want that one on Switch the most for sure. However I think OOT3D/MM3D had the most significant improvements over their original versions. WW on GameCube is still pretty much just as fun as WWHD and even kinda unique in some ways.
People complaining about a $60 price tag on a new AAA Nintendo game are clueless. This is essentially a top-tier luxury experience from a world renowned company. Maybe quit it with the petty hate and consider a hobby you can afford?
I actually got the G&W Ball reproduction from the service back in the Wii days and still have it! I also got the little clear plastic logo game shelf and the lil Wii remote holder/basket thingy.

@Razzy give one example of a game that BOTW looks like graphically besides Genshin. Genuinely curious.

Re: Wii U's Getting A New Game, And This Will Probably Be The Last
Anybody ever notice the Wii U’s eshop theme song? Why were Nintendo’s digital store fronts always playing host to such bangers??
Re: Oh No, Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp Has Been Delayed On Switch
Why are her index and middle fingers so long?.. I’m not loving the art direction tbh. Looks kinda rushed :/

Re: Talking Point: Which Nintendo Console Has The Best Start-Up Sound?
Love the disk system start up jingle! Also the GameCube one.
Fun fact: did you know the GameCube menu theme is a super slowed down version of the Famicom Disk System start up theme?

@RupeeClock I didn’t even consider that!! That definitely makes it harder to choose.

Yes! I was just thinking about this one! Also no Gradius or Gradius 2! Boo!
