Great, I was waiting for the review to see if I should get this. I'm off to download it now...despite the fact that I have an exam tomorrow that I should be studying for. eh.
It looks like it very well may be a turning point for DSiWare, with Mario Vs. Donkey Kong due out in the US this Monday.... Hopefully MFC comes to EU DSiWare tomorrow...
Cheers, a Frosthammer/ Catapult/ Axethrower spam worked quite nicely...I'm now up to the final campaign, I think I'm starting to understand this game better now...it's pretty much the first RTS game I've ever played. Also, I believe on Campaign 2 level 9 if you let the Vikings get very close to your base, frosthamr (I think that's his name...) brings a ton of Viking units to help you out, which makes the battle a lot easier...
Hey, did you guys fix the fact that you need a highscore to save for the EU release? Cause I just passed the first level without a highscore, and it saved. Anyway, this game is awesome. My one complaint is that the levels are too long which can really mess with your eyesight after a while. I would have preferred 6 levels of half the size...
Well, it definitely wouldn't surprise me, especially now that Sony have lost most of the hardcore market to Microsoft, and casual gaming is very much on the rise. Still, at least Wii will always be first .
I had a feeling you'd be reviewing this Marcel, after I saw 'Drake at the top of the main game highscore list .
Anyway, if you have a problem with the upgrades making the game too easy, just don't buy them until you have completed the game. They are there so if someone is having trouble with a level, they can replay easier levels and collect melons, then buy upgrades to help them to advance more easily. Really, there is no point in complaining about an entirely optional system.
Downloaded this, and I must say I'm really impressed by the amount of content it has for an 800 point game. I haven't played the retail version of the game, but I doubt that they have taken much out because this seems to have as much content as a full retail football game should have.
@Alfred Nah, I'll show up as 'pt' when I can actually work out how to submit my highscores. They don't seem to submit automatically when I connect to the leaderboards, is there another way to do it? And btw, you have Bomberman Blast, don't you? I think I've played you quite a few times....you were pretty damn good if I remember.
Initial thoughts on Adventure Island; Seems pretty solid at the moment, although the controls are a little unresponsive at times. The graphics are also a little blurry- Hudson obviously had to do a lot of compression on this to fit it within the size limit (which is ridiculous now that we can launch games from the SD card). But anyway, it's pretty much what I expected it to be, with solid but not outstanding level design, and some decent minigames. Worth the download, but definitely could have been better.
Interestingly, this is also a huge step towards allowing us to play games from our SD cards, in that transfer speeds are probably now quick enough for this to happen....
Gotta admit, I don't love your top 20, Corbie. But to each his own. Here's my top 10; 10) Star Fox 64 9) Baseball Stars 2 8) Blazing Lazers 7) Gunstar Heroes 6) Super Mario RPG 5) Sin and Punishment 4) Paper Mario 3) Zelda: LttP 2) Super Mario World 1) Super Mario Bros. 3
This is actually one of the games I've really been waiting for. I only have 1000 points though, and it looks like we are having a massive week this Friday with Strongbad, Mega Man 9 and Helix. Hmmm....believe it or not, I think I'll go for Helix.
Hmmm....I just got Bomberman Blast and I am having a few problems connecting to people on wifi. I can connect to wifi, and then I can briefly find people but they always almost immediately dissapear. Is anyone else having this problem? I have no problem playing online on any other game, and I''m pretty dissapointed because the online was the main reason I downloaded BB.
I'm enjoying this alot more now...it's definitely one of those 'just one more go' games, and the fact that it's a high score game with a genuine goal means it won't just appeal to high score fanatics. And if you get other people involved in the race to one million, it also becomes a lot more fun. Definitely worth the download.
Hmm...I gave in and decided to download it before the review, and I'm a little dissapointed. It's very simlplistic and mostly shallow, but I guess you do get what you pay for at only 800 wii points
Circle is very basic but quite fun once you get used to it. Basically you control the direction of rotation of a ball inside a big circle, and you have to manipulate this rotation to make this ball make contact with the enemies in the circle, before they can exit it. For me it was actually surprisingly intuitive, but its shallowness and the fact that it is quite unforgiving (some enemies really make a dash for freedom, give you very little time to kill them) let it down. Bar takes a while to get used to, and once you do get used to it you realise how shallow it is. Basically, all you do is press the A button at the right time to make your stick move forward. Once you get this timing down the game just becomes a repetive tap of the A button every couple of seconds. Square is the deepest game in the package, and a pretty decent snake clone . Although slower paced then snake, it makes you think alot more, and can actually get fairly tactically deep in the later stages.
I won't be downloading this, but great interview. It's really refreshing to hear an interview with all questions being answered completely and honestly without any PR crap we get from the major companies.
Seems like a pretty cool idea. Must be a reason why they aren't releasing it as a fully fledged Wii game anymore....perhaps it wasn't of a high enough quality, or possibly they couldn't flesh it out enough?
I just dowloaded this today and I am incredibly dissapointed. As mentioned in the review, there is very little content besides a (slightly) revamped version of the original. Also, in terms of design, I'd take Tetris over Dr. Mario any day. Tetris has more depth to it's play, in my opinon.
So....Australia already has this game, while it hasn't had a release in the rest of the 'EU' region. Are we in Australia missing out on another game that has been released to the rest of the 'EU' region?

Re: Tales Of Monkey Island coming to WiiWare
Just to let you guys know, the link to the staff members who were involved in previous Monkey Island games is broken....
Re: Swords & Soldiers
I have no idea what I'm doing wrong on this game, but I can't get past level 8 of the first campaign. Any tips, Marcel?

Haha, yeah definitely. I bet that's a first for you, Corbie?

Re: Review: Adventure Island: The Beginning (WiiWare)
It really isn't that easy, but it's certainly easier than MM9.

Re: EU WiiWare Update: Critter Round-Up & MaBoShi
The DS game is essentially identical to what you get in the full game, but with altered graphics.

I would give it a (tentantive) 6 out of 10.

Re: EU WiiWare Update: Pirates and SPOGS Racing
Maybe Nintendo Australia decided to spare us from the awfulness of SPOGS? I'm certainly not complaining.
And Marcel, perhaps you could add a note to the end of the article saying that OZ only got Pirates?
Re: EU WiiWare Update: Pirates and SPOGS Racing
It appears that SPOGS wasn't released here in Australia today- only pirates.

Re: We Move: Pain Vs Pleasure - New Video And Information
Looks like a soft porn game. I'm honestly surprised Nintendo is even letting this be sold on WiiWare. Perhaps it's a fake?

Re: WiiWare and Retro Gaming
The Wii is more than powerful enough to emulate Dreamcast games, it just lacks the storage space to do so.
Re: Butterfly Garden Coming to WiiWare
I wonder is this will retail for 500 wii points like a few other announced WiiWare games. Definitely a great pricing point for wii ware games.

Re: StarTropics

Re: Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels
It might be worth mentioning that this game will only run in 60 HZ mode.
I downloaded it this morning, only to remember how terribly my tv displays in 60 HZ. Sigh.
Re: Sin & Punishment heads our way
So, it now has a release date- the 28th of September in Australia/ NZ/ Europe. Will this have to run in 60 HZ mode, though?
Re: TurboGrafx-16 in Australia from 7th July
Actually, these games were released today (the 6th of July).
Re: Europe VC Releases - 15th June - F-Zero X on the N64
Nice, I just downloaded this today. I would've preferred Paper Mario, but this is still great.
