Re: Virtual Handheld Confirmed for 3DS

Guybrush_Threepwood

Best handheld news ever. This will be the most important feature to me besides 3DS retail games of course. I hope though Nintendo will treat this Virtual Console much better than Wii's Virtual Console.

PS: I would prefer the European version of "Link's Awakening" for the original Gameboy (without Color) since it wasn't mutilated by the stupid censorship rules used by Nintendo of America in the 80/90ies. Unfortunately the "DX"-remake for Gameboy Color was censored in Europe and North America like the original North American version.

Re: Metroid Co-Creator: Next Nintendo Console Will "Leave Your Mouth Open"

Guybrush_Threepwood

Good news is the hardware couldn't get more disappointing than Wii. Please Nintendo, give us a powerful system next generation with up to date hardware, enough disc space, enough media capacity, proper online multiplayer / features, HD visuals, 5.1 Dolby Digital support, ... I mean Nintendo should have enough money nowadays to develop a competitive console again.

Re: Rejected! No Online Play for NBA Jam

Guybrush_Threepwood

Great! Wii gets no online play, Xbox360/PS3 get not all modes. Why can't they just release a full version with all features on any console? I wouldn't even care if it's for Wii, Xbox360 or PS3 since I'm not a fanboy and own 2 (soon 3) of the 3 consoles.

Re: Metroid: Other M Struggles to Ignite UK Sales Charts

Guybrush_Threepwood

It's definitely not my fault. I got my copy by Amazon UK on Saturday although I'm living in Germany.

I buy all my videogames from UK sellers nowadays thanks to stupid censorship laws in Germany, ugly covers (USK label is much bigger than PEGI), poorly German dubbings/translations (without optional English). Xbox360/PS3 games are even more favourable in UK, Wii games have about the same price though.

Re: Rare Reveals Nintendo Wanted to Cancel GoldenEye

Guybrush_Threepwood

Too bad we won't see GoldenEye 007 being released on Virtual Console or XBLA since I don't care at all about that stupid new game made by Actvision.

Rare should definitely bring more remakes of their other classics to XBLA in the future though. I want Jet Force Gemini, Blast Corps, Battletoads,...

PS: Donkey Kong 64 and Diddy Kong Racing should finally be released on Virtual Console. But I know the legal issues (especially with the Rare characters in Diddy Kong Racing).

Re: Super Meat Boy Should be on the WiiWare Menu Soon

Guybrush_Threepwood

@brandonbwii: It's an obvious fact that a high ratio of Nintendo (hardcore-)gamers owns also a PS3 or Xbox360 this generation. Why should those people buy Wii ports with inferior graphics and online capabilities if they have other options? Last generation multiplatform games on Gamecube were on a par with the competition or even better. But the hardware gap between Wii and PS3/Xbox360 is just too big. So most people who have a Wii and a HD console will only be interested in Wii exclusives when they're looking for Wii games.

Re: Super Meat Boy Should be on the WiiWare Menu Soon

Guybrush_Threepwood

I will get this on XBLA since I was never a fan of WiiWare. I prefer Virtual Console and XBLA.

PS: And I won't start downloading WiiWare games anyway as long as Nintendo keeps Virtual Console starving. That's not a difficult decision for me since Castlevania Rebirth is the only exclusive game on WiiWare I'm really interested in.

Re: Nintendo Rolls Its Sleeves Up With GoldenEye 007 Development

Guybrush_Threepwood

@buffalobob: Nintendo didn't push anything. Microsoft even offered Nintendo to release the game on Virtual Console and XBLA. So both sides would have profited since the game would sell like hot cakes on both consoles. Even Activision would have been on board at this time to promote their release of the mediocre Quantum of Solace videogame. There would definitely be no better way to promote a new Bond game than a promotion like "You get GoldenEye 007 on VC/XBLA if you buy Quantum of Solace".

But unfortunately Nintendo didn't sign the deal without obvious reasons. I guess Nintendo had already forgotten that Reggie promised to do everything possible for bringing GoldenEye 007 to Virtual Console. Now we just get another mediocre Bond game made by Activision instead of Rare's masterpiece.

Re: Nintendo Rolls Its Sleeves Up With GoldenEye 007 Development

Guybrush_Threepwood

Nintendo should have rolled up its sleeves to make a deal with Microsoft for a release of the classic and only real GoldenEye 007 game on Virtual Console (and maybe XBLA). But I don't care about Activision's lousy cash in on Rare's masterpiece. The developers/publishers obviously won't trust their creation if they have to abuse the name of a gaming classic although nobody of them was involved in making the original.

Re: GoldenEye Multiplayer Doubles-Up but Loses its Voice

Guybrush_Threepwood

I don't care about this phony remake which isn't even a remake. This is just a try to cash in on Rare's masterpiece. The game has not much in common with the original besides the James Bond license and some loose plot elements. None of the developers were involved in the making of Nintendo64 Goldeneye. So why do they have to abuse the name of one of the greatest gaming classics?

PS: Voice chat can be a great feature for co-op or team based gameplay. So I use the headset for some games on Xbox Live (Battlefield, Splosion Man,...). But when playing against each other player I don't see a point in using voice chat.

Re: Nintendo President Wants Gamers to be Surprised by the Wii 2

Guybrush_Threepwood

I hope Nintendo makes a better job this time. I know the Wii sold very well (especially thanks to their new target groups). But nevertheless the Wii has also the most disappointing hardware of any Nintendo console I ever owned. There is so much room for improvement:

  • up to date hardware with competitive graphics and processing power
  • HD visuals
  • digital audio output (even PS2 and Xbox did already have Dolby Digital 5.1 support)
  • harddisk support
  • proper online multiplayer (and get rid of those stupid friendcodes!!!)
  • gamertags
  • no region locking
  • 60 Hz option for all Virtual Console games in the PAL region
  • Virtual Console games should be connected to your gamertag (making transfers to another console possible)

Re: Reggie Confirms 3DS is Coming Next Year

Guybrush_Threepwood

I didn't expect a 3DS release this year anyway. Let's hope we'll get it first quarter 2011.

I'm more disappointed about the Donkey Kong Country Returns gameplay footage. The graphics don't look impressive at all in this version. I really hope they can make a worthy sequel to the SNES-masterpieces. Optional Classic Controller support would be great for playing a 2D platformer, too.

Re: E3 2010: 3DS Could be Region-Locked

Guybrush_Threepwood

Bad news especially for all European Nintendo fans! Sony doesn't need region locking nowadays, many Xbox360 games don't have region locking (You can even access American and Japanese Xbox Live with an European Xbox360). So why does Nintendo try to annoy their loyal customers? There are still Wii and DS games not being published in every region. And don't forget the clearly inferior European Virtual Console with no option to download the games in their best version (60 Hz)! The region locking of Wii has only downsides for customers. It would be the same for the 3DS!

Re: E3 2010: Trailer of Wii-Exclusive Activision GoldenEye Remake Leaks

Guybrush_Threepwood

It's not a remake! In fact it has nothing to do with the original. Rare has still all rights on the original game. Rare just doesn't have the James Bond/GoldenEye licence any more. So they couldn't release the Xbox Live Arcade remake (which was already in development) without a permission. But Activision now tries to abuse the name of a videogaming classic to advertise their totally new game. It sounds fishy to me and I'm really sceptical about the quality of such a cash in.

I would only buy a remake for Xbox Live Arcade (like Perfect Dark and Banjo Kazooie) or a release on Virtual Console.

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2 Shoots to Number Two in UK Charts

Guybrush_Threepwood

@SoulSilver IV: Not everybody is interested in football or the World Cup of course. But millions of Europeans are watching and celebrating it! So would you really release your Triple A blockbuster videogame on the same day the most popular and commented event of this year starts if you were head of Nintendo's marketing departement?

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2 Shoots to Number Two in UK Charts

Guybrush_Threepwood

The European release date was definitely a stupid marketing decision by Nintendo: At the same time the most popular sports event starts! Many (especially in the football fanatic UK) won't buy (or even think about) any videogames until World Cup is over.

PS: I will not complain about Red Dead Redemption at the top spot. The game is just awesome and deserves every credit.

Re: Feature: The Making of Jet Force Gemini - Part Two

Guybrush_Threepwood

@Tetsuo_808: You didn't read my comment to the end or you just didn't understand it. I didn't write anything about the graphics of Jet Force Gemini.

My complaint was about the picture signal of the Nintendo64 console which is incredibly ugly on a modern television. Please compare the graphics and colours of any Nintendo64 game released on the Virtual Console with the original cartridge and you will see the difference! That's the reason why I would like to see a Xbox Live Arcade remake (since Virtual Console will not happen).

Re: Feature: The Making of Jet Force Gemini - Part Two

Guybrush_Threepwood

I wish Rare would release a remake for Xbox Live Arcade.

I still have a Nintendo64 but I prefer a Virtual Console version or a XBLA remake over the original cartridge nowadays. The picture signal of the Nintendo64 is just awful in comparison to Wii or Xbox360: pale colours, lower resolution,...

Re: Nintendo "Happy with Virtual Console Pricing"

Guybrush_Threepwood

Nintendo should just solve the PAL issues and release more VC games (in 60 Hz please) again.

@Willy105: "We have moved on to WiiWare. Virtual Console was nice, but the new games are more worth it."

What a blasphemy! You should definitely play more of the "old" games. There are just too many SNES or N64 classics I would choose over the entire WiiWare catalogue anytime.

Re: Review: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Trials & Tribulations (WiiWare)

Guybrush_Threepwood

Capcom should just produce new editions for the DS of Ace Attorney 1-3 instead of delivering those lousy WiiWare ports. Decisions like this make it just ridicilous when publishers complain about costumers buying used games nowadays. Even if the WiiWare port may be less expensive I would seek the DS version. Capcom just doesn't earn getting any money for those WiiWare ports.

Re: Talking Point: The Virtual Console's PAL Problem

Guybrush_Threepwood

@Mach-X: Who made the decision to release only 50 Hz versions of all Virtual Console games (except most Hanabi festival releases) in Europe instead of delivering the perfect 60 Hz originals? Sorry but there is no one other to blame here than Nintendo.

It's not a discussion about television standards or PAL vs. NTSC any more since all European televisions support NTSC nowadays (even my old tube television does). Our only problem is that Nintendo chose to give us the 50 Hz versions on Virtual Console. Although there is no understandable reason offering inferior PAL ports nowadays.

Nintendo should just release the 60 Hz originals in Europe and everyone would be happy.

Re: Talking Point: The Virtual Console's PAL Problem

Guybrush_Threepwood

Excellent article! Nintendo Europe should finally acknowledge their big mistake and deliver the 60 Hz versions of all VC-games to Europe. I mean we got already the inferior versions in the 80/90-ies. But why does Nintendo have to repeat the same mistake nowadays? If you're paying for a videogame you should expext receiving the best possible version. It's a shame for Nintendo Europe that emulators can offer a better gaming experience for PAL-gamers than Nintendo's Virtual Console. Metroid Prime 2 is the perfect example that 60 Hz compatibility can only be a lame excuse. Even my tube television (over 10 years old) supports PAL/NTSC 60 Hz.
