Re: This Unofficial Zelda PC Port Is About '90% Complete', Say Devs

@AstroTheGamosian actually, the end result uses nothing from Ocarina of Time. It will more than likely just be a builder à la the SM64 PC port, requiring the user to provide their own ROM. It's on the user to provide all those copyrighted assets, and whether they obtain them legally or not is irrelevant. A few people in the comments already expressed this point.
I assume this is the reason SM64 PC port has remained untouched by Nintendo, and I expect OoT PC to fare similarly.

@SuperZeldaFun I misunderstood your comment. I thought you were saying the previous comment you quoted was a bad analogy, and telling people to please ignore it. My bad on that one, so I apologise. However, I didn't call you an idiot. So you're right, you don't have to take that from me—especially since I didn't give it in the first place.
As for my other comment that you reference, I stand by it. It had substance beyond my closing insult (and was in response to what was, frankly, a provocative comment). I don't owe a polite demeanour to someone who broadly calls others hypocrites (from a verifiably incorrect and morally unjustified position, mind you) and wishes for the demise of passionate fan projects.

@ChakraStomps actually, piracy doesn't hurt. a study conducted in the EU showed that piracy correlates positively with game sales.
https://cdn.netzpolitik.org/wp-upload/2017/09/displacement_study.pdf
referring to p.148:
"For games, the estimated effect of illegal online transactions on sales is positive[...]The overall estimate is 24 extra legal transactions (including free games) for every 100 online copyright infringements"
so, you're wrong, and I'm surprised your tongue isn't tired, considering how vigorously you're licking corporate Nintendo's boots in that comment

Re: Pokémon Unite Launches On Mobile Tomorrow Alongside A New Balance Patch

@CharlieGirl that's not proof against it being P2W. there's no way of knowing the levels of the held items anyone else in a game is using (or in most cases, which items they're using at all), so it's virtually impossible to know whether they've meaningfully impacted a game.
Irregardless of how much/little they affect the course of a match, it's objective reality that real money can be used to accelerate the growth of held items, even beyond the point that's currently possible having played free from launch.
Teamwork is an infinitely bigger factor in whether a team wins or loses, but it's simply false to say that you can't pay for an advantage. If you want to make the distinction that you can't literally pay to win, that's fine—but as far as P2W=you can pay for advantage, Unite is undeniably P2W

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Will Expand Its Switch Online Service With Game Boy And Game Boy Color Titles

I'd love to see this. Between emulation on PC and the classic mini consoles, I was already playing existing NSO online retro games in other places. Game Boy and Game Boy Color games would be comfortable to play handheld, and are something I've largely never bothered with for emulation (outside of a select few 3DS VC purchases). Recently played Super Mario Land on 3DS VC and was surprisingly engaged, so a few more to play on Switch wouldn't be unwelcome

Re: Talking Point: As The Fan-Made 2D Metroid Prime Game Is Shut Down, Where Do You Stand On Nintendo's Takedowns?

ElStormo

@Teksetter sorry if you felt like it was directed to your comments (haven't read all), if you were posting something considered and thoughtful. I was moreseo referring to comments that liken fangames to 'theft', or support Nintendo crushing fangames purely on the basis that it's their legal right (I saw a bit of that sentiment in the last Prime 2D article).
It's fine to look at the issue through different lenses, esp. for the purpose of understanding why Nintendo does this, why they might need to or feel they need to, etc., but at the end of the day I think arguing that Nintendo is morally upright by taking these fangames down is a highly indefensible viewpoint to hold. those who espouse that are the bootlickers, in my eyes.
I'm happy to have a discourse btw, I just didn't want to sift through all the comments that I felt warranted a reply.

Too many bootlickers in this thread. It's beyond frustrating seeing how many morally-underdeveloped people there are defending Nintendo's policy on fangames, and being fully confident in their reasoning.
I had thought about addressing some of those comments, but there's (sadly) too many. I can only implore those people to exercise some critical thinking.
