Re: Limited Run Games Would Like to Distribute Physical Copies of Phoenix Wright: Dual Destinies

DJStarstryker

I think these people saying "how about (x game that has never gotten a release)" need to realize what Limited Run Games is. They don't localize or make games. Their entire business model is printing limited physical copies of games that have never gotten a physical release. That's it. They don't do those other things.

Anyway... I've never bought one of their games because I don't care about the indies they've released so far. But I'd rebuy Dual Destinies (assuming the DLC still works with it). I'd also buy Atelier. The only reason I've never gotten into the Atelier games on Vita is because they're digital and Vita memory cards are so expensive.

Re: Nintendo Download: 24th December (North America)

DJStarstryker

I'm shocked that Puzzles and Dragons got a free update when they shut down the distribution server for the relics in the PADZ side of the game (aka free DLC). But from this description sounds like it's focused on the Mario side of the game so maybe that's why...

Re: Tablets Stole The Wii U's Thunder, Laments Shigeru Miyamoto

DJStarstryker

@KillScottKill Agreed. But I also think the name really hurt it too. Adding a U to the name doesn't indicate that this is a different console from the original Wii. Some people seem to think it's just a regular Wii but with a tablet controller. Obviously, that's not actually the case.

People are used to numbers indicating a new thing, like movie or book sequels. While the Playstation line just 1 upping a number for every generation isn't very original, at least it clearly indicates that it's the next new version. Wii U should've either been Wii 2, or a completely different name entirely.

Re: Talking Point: The Fragility of Buying Download Games

DJStarstryker

I avoid download only games as much as I can. I haven't had a problem with Nintendo. There's really only 2 things that bother me from the Nintendo perspective:

  • The 3DS system based, instead of account based, system. This means that you can't really back stuff up, and if your console dies, then you either have to attempt to move the data yourself or pay Nintendo to do it.
  • The limited number of plays on demos. This is really only a problem for certain ones. Bravely Default's demo has unique content, that's not in the main game. Yet it's a 30 plays demo.

Re: Poll: Is It Time For a Fresh Alternative to the Virtual Console?

DJStarstryker

Way back before the original Wii launched, I thought Virtual Console was a great idea. But it hasn't worked as well in practice as I had hoped.

1) The games are a bit costly. I think they should be a few dollars cheaper. NES can still be cheapest, for example, but at the $5 price point, I'm not as likely to buy one randomly as I would if it was marked at $2 or $3. Nintendo 64 games shouldn't be $10. I'd say between $5-7. If you compare the costs of these versus Steam sales or other compilation bundles (look how cheap you can get bundles of Sega games, either on Steam or on consoles!), they're pretty expensive at the prices Nintendo charges. Nintendo has always been at the premium price point (their games are very slow and/or never drop in price) but still. It's too premium.

2) The games release too slowly. Virtual Console has been around for a long time now, since the original Wii, and there's still plenty of great games that have never been released.

3) Like others said, you either shouldn't have to pay to take a game from Wii -> Wii U, or a very small (like $1 or less!) amount. Not only do people sometimes not feel like booting into Wii mode, but they may also want to use their Wii U controllers. If you already purchased the game, you shouldn't have to pay much, if anything, (preferably nothing) to be able to download the game on the Wii U side.

4) It's frustrating that some VC games were only released through the 3DS ambassador program and they're STILL not available to anyone else. It's fine that the ambassadors got them for FREE and exclusive availability for such a long time. But I think these games ought to be released for purchase for others to buy too. The Club Nintendo only Virtual Console games are really annoying for a fairly similar reason. It's not like Nintendo loses out by making these available for sale.

Re: Thousands Of Pikachus Will Be Taking Over Yokohama This August

DJStarstryker

Ugh, no. I'm not leaving Japan until September, but not doing this. Japan is hot and humid in the summer, and it's even worse by the water (Yokohama is a port city). Then there will be tons of kids there all clamoring to see the Pikachus... Temperature and crowds will be worse than the creepy factor of lots of Pikachus running around.

Re: Review: Mario Party 10 (Wii U)

DJStarstryker

I just want to know if the amiibo boards are worth buying amiibo for. The only amiibo that this game works with that I'd be interested in buying otherwise is maybe Rosalina. But amiibos are cheap enough that I might buy more if the amiibo boards are fun.

Re: Yokai Watch Yo-Kai Pad Sells Out in a Blink in Japan

DJStarstryker

I've never seen that yet. I live in Japan too. But considering how popular Yokai Watch is, and how popular the little medals are, I'm not surprised that a medal reader that lets you do stuff on the screen would be popular with kids.

Yokai Watch is either going to be a complete dud or super, super popular (like the level of popular anything Pokemon was in the '90s) when it finally gets released outside of Japan. I'm curious to see which it'll be.
