I was expecting 399.99 or higher going past 599.99 would kill buyers from picking up for the launch year and could hurt Nintendo long term as this will stop Family of four let's say and they will only get one and then wait a year for to buy the next one. These aren't sellout prices and I think this is what will happen for the first batch of Switch 2 will force people to wait. Core gaming they will get them but it's the General Family they want to buy more then one at launch or launch year but coming in at 449.99 base will make most people eyes bugout seeing that.
I'd think that the main thing about the pricing is that it's going to put the Switch 2 above the cheapest SKUs for the PS5 and Series X in most territories.
For a company that's traditionally leveraged having the cheapest hardware on the market, that's a bold move.
I’m sitting out launch to keep myself from buying several systems (I have 4 switches and two are still in the box. They all work. ) buuuut I will be on the accessory bandwagon. Need a procon2, a camera (hori), a gamecube switch controller, amiibo and possibly a new arcade stick. Other than that I will wait on 2TB microsdex cards will try for a few games day one to show support (street fighter in particular). My only concern is I have a few switch games that are on preorder that will have switch 2 versions. So I don’t know if I should still buy or wait until I get a S2. But since I am waiting on the Zelda edition…that could take 4-5 years. Otherwise I have a huge switch purchase list to work down do I will have plenty to play until then.

Amusingly I hunted down this thread to post a thought and I was thinking almost the exact opposite of what you're saying. I think this may actually be one of the cheapest Nintendo console launches for me in a long while. Purely because I don't feel the need to buy any additional accessories and I don't see a reason to start building up my library
When the Wii launched? Wii Sports is in the box, that's great, but you really needed to get a second WiiMote, obviously Wii Play was the route. Also you're picking up the Classic Controller because playing SNES games with a WiiMote is dumb. Also you have to get Twilight Princess. Also I believe I picked up a WaveBird, maybe not at launch but certainly not long after. But all of that I (well, it was a while ago, so my parents) were like $750AU in the hole. And those be 2006 dollars
Wii U was a bit less because, well, there was less to do. Console, Pro Controller, I think at launch I got Assassin's Creed 3 but I also had the Premium SKU so it came with Nintendo Land. WiiMotes worked with Nintendo Land so that did help somewhat. I think it was around $600AU? Somewhere around there
Switch.... so Switch was a reset of accessories and games. Console, obviously, I also grabbed the Pro Controller. BotW also obviously had to get. Case was a must. Second JoyCon set I'm not counting but I did get it not long after launch alongside Mario Kart so I didn't avoid it for very long. I also definitely got some eShop because there were a bunch of fairly interesting smaller games to download, most notably Snipperclips and Fast RMX. But I think all up it was a bit over $700AU?
Switch 2.... I don't need any controllers at launch because all the Switch controllers are compatible. I'm getting the Mario Kart World bundle so that covers me somewhat for new content. But then additionally I'm already paying for NSO+ so I get GC on NSO plus the BotW/TotK upgrades. And that's enough to cover me for a bit. I may get a case but, honestly, I still have a Switch which I'll probably just continue to take with me for a bit. So I'm in no rush for a case either. So just the Mario Kart World bundle, $769AU
It's actually not that bad all things considered

I'll most likely just buy the base model and just one game. I'm planning on retiring from gaming anyways. So I'm slowing down buying since this hobby is getting increasingly expensive. Switch 2 is gonna be my last new console anyways.
Buying blu-ray movies is looking and sounding more cheaper than anything....

@skywake yeah since it is sans system this will be a lower cost launch. Since I have to wait for a few items to come to market anyway (Zelda S2 and 1.5-2TB microSDex cards). Partly why I am gonna get a new arcade stick (the one I am looking at is about 700 after I get everything I want with it.) Plus I gotta get the analogue 3D in the next year or two. But clearing out my Switch purchase list takes priority.
I think WiiU was my most expensive launch as it was my first not only as an adult but gainfully employed. Wii was just the system and a game as I was in college but I worked at GameStop and they allowed us to borrow games plus the discount so I always had something to play despite being broke. Switch was the system, BOTW CE (which got me a case), and I think two games. I knew Zelda would take forever plus my existing systems so I didn’t need much.
My plan is to buy games on sale digitally for S2 over time so whenever the Zelda edition drops I’ll hit the ground running.
