Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the best-selling game on Nintendo Switch, and for good reason – it's rather excellent. You're almost guaranteed to have a fantastic time playing with your trusty Pro Controller (or Joy-Con if you're the unlucky one who gets left out), but we're here to tell you that there's an even better way.
Reddit user snk50 has shared a work-in-progress setup for a home Mario Kart 8 cabinet, and it looks amazing. The wheel is Hori's 'Nintendo Switch Mario Kart Racing Wheel Pro Deluxe', a product specially designed to be used with Mario Kart that comes with pedals and even an 'Item' button that can be used to fling shells at your opponents.
How cool is that?!
Of course, the project's made extra special thanks to the custom cabinet, complete with a Nintendo Switch and monitor for all your gaming needs. snk50 says that the setup was mainly built for their kids and also gets used for games of Team Sonic Racing and Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled. Not bad at all.
Are you feeling as immensely jealous as we are about not having one of these set up in your own home? Its creator plans to share more photos and details on how it was built soon, so feel free to keep an eye on Reddit for more.

Gotta go fast! Ops wrong franchise
It looks like the Wii U entry... Oh, wait!
Instead of "I'm using tilt controls" is there a "I'm in a homemade arcade cabinet"
Nah, handheld mode lying down the couch wins every time. That cabinet looks kind of mental. As long as the person's happy I guess
I love DIY arcade setups. If I ever buy a home of my own ( f you housing market) I have 3 I want to build.
My knees don’t like how low to the ground that looks lol
As a bit of a fun fact, Nintendo also has an official racing arcade game known as Cruis'n USA. Seeing this makes me want to see Nintendo bring Mario Kart to the arcades (again).
I hope there was absolutely no possible way to restore that cab to a working Ridge Racer Deluxe before it was gutted and turned into that.
I guess this person really loves the arcade Mario games.
Now that is pimped out yo!
It would be perfect if it was Mario Kart 9…
I prefer laying lazily on my couch.
It looks like it would be easier to get into on the right hand side of the window/door those curtains imply. Assuming there is an obvious reason why it isn't.
I think it's cool. Its just not for my house!
@BulkSlash on Reddit he said he brought it $150 empty and parts were cheap if you call a switch, tv, arcade parts cheap.
I see people modding clearance Street Fighter 2 Arcade 1ups with Switch mods all the time. Usually they're Mariokart 8-themed, and they'll add the bucket seats and everything to go along with them.
Super koool. Love it
Lol I was intrigued until you mentioned Hori steering wheel……appalling piece of plastic crap with no force feedback.
that’s an awesome set up!
personally, I’m with most here as I prefer my pro controller any day to any type of wheel option.
the only thing I would add to this set up is to make duplicate cabinets and connect X amount of Switch systems to a router for LAN play
Cruiiiisin', let's go cruisin'!
@BulkSlash Can confirm. TV had no vacuum, all components inside had been ripped out and sold etc.
Hope to put the finishing touches this weekend and will post more pics, and video! Thanks guys!
Huh cool, but if I wanted to feel like I was actually behind the wheel I would just go outside and go on a drive.
Having home arcades nowadays is a good hobby for some. It's sad you can't use em for commercial purpose like they use to back in the 80s and 90s otherwise I would buy 3 of em for that one busy shop my uncle own.
I've always wanted a jet fighter custom cabinet for ace combat lol. Or a mech fighter like virtua-on cabinets kinda were.
I'm kinda jealous ya. A bit lol
@ModdedInkling I can't enter an arcade without seeing the latest Mario Kart GP arcade game. 4 player setups as well.
