It's that time again, dear reader, for the last Nintendo Download Update before E3. This week brings a fabulous Kirby retail release on 3DS, and beyond that there are some interesting download-only options across both the Wii U and 3DS. Without further pre-amble, let's get to it.
Did you miss the European Nintendo Download Update details earlier in the week? It's ok, don't fret, the information you need is right here.
Wii U eShop
Olympia Rising (PlayEveryWare, $4.99) - This is an adventure platformer with some rather stylish pixel-based visuals, as expected revolving around climbing up Mount Olympus. It looks and sounds impressive, with a few quirks holding it back from being an excellent game; nevertheless we gave it a recommendation in our Olympia Rising review.
Wii U Retail Download
The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 (Nordic Games, $19.99) - This one saw its release date move around a little on Wii U, but is finally pinned down. An adventure with roots in the point-and-click era, we can expect humour to go with our important quest - we'll see whether it's a magical experience in a review.
Wii U Virtual Console
Wario: Master of Disguise (Nintendo, $9.99) - The latest DS game to make its way to the Wii U, in this case a quirky combination of platformer and mini-games with touch controls as Wario plays the thief in 'TV episodes'. While it may sound like a fun idea, we criticised this heavily in our Wario: Master of Disguise review.
Wii U eShop Temporary Discounts
FreezeME (RNC, $9.99 until 23rd June, normally $13.99)
Wicked Monsters Blast! HD+ (Corecell Technologies, on discount until 30th June)
Word Puzzles by POWGI (Lightwood Games, $7.99 until 16th June, normally $9.99)
Grumpy Reaper (Enjoy Up, on discount until 30th June)
Job the Leprechaun (Herrero, €0.99 until 30th June, normally $2.99)
The Rivers of Alice: Extended Version (Delirium Studios, on discount until 16th June)
3DS eShop
Puzzle Labyrinth (CIRCLE Entertainment, $5.00) - A potential nice fit for the 3DS eShop, as this sets you the task of solving puzzles in order to work your way through a maze, combat monsters and so on. 60 stages are promised and it looks intriguing in footage; we'll solve the conundrum of whether it's worth a purchase in our review.
Dan McFox: Head Hunter (Lightwood Games, $2.99) - A rare release from Lightwood Games that isn't a word game. It's a port of a mobile title generally targeting young gamers, as it incorporates elements of the 'Guess Who' board game, challenging the player to frantically pick out faces that fit the right criteria. We gave it a modest recommendation in our Dan McFox: Head Hunter review.
3DS Retail Download
Kirby: Planet Robobot (Nintendo, $39.99) - HAL Laboratory returns with another cheerful and colourful platformer, though the mechanised theme here sets it up nicely for some smart level design and enjoyable twists. Beyond an excellent campaign there are multiple unlockables to dip into, and we gave this an enthusiastic recommendation in our Kirby: Planet Robotot review. Available from 10th June.
3DS DLC
Fire Emblem Fates: End - Lost in the Waves (Nintendo, $1.99 or part of Map Pack 2) - The next generation assaults their ultimate foe. The Heirs of Fate finale.
Hyrule Warriors Legends Free Companion Fairy (Nintendo, free) - A Fairy comes bearing gifts! To thank you all for playing the Hyrule Warriors Legends game, a free SpotPass download including a new Fairy companion, Lazuli, extra Rupees and more fairy Food is now available! Lazuli will surely prove to be a stalwart ally, aiding you with her skills and magic!

That's everything for the North American Nintendo Download Update this week; let us know what you're planning to download in the poll and comments below.

Still waiting patiently here in NA for AC:Wild World.
Why does the NA eShop always get discounts of games I want. Which are never discounted in Europe. Oh well.
So this is the true end of FE Fates DLC, eh? Just in time for Kirby and Monster Hunter I guess.
The companion fairy spotpass content is worldwide so I got that.
Nothing for me this week. I might pick up Master of Disguise at a later date.
Getting the Hyrule Warriors DLC and home theme. Waiting until next week to see what deals there are during E3 before downloading any games
Taking an early lunch to get a physical copy of the new Kirby as soon as the local game shop opens tomorrow. Will probably buy the theme also, so I voted for that.
Can't wait to see the bigger discounts.
I'm picking up the 5 SEGA 3D classics games that I don't have. Catching them on sale should still net me some MyNintendo coins.
Still on the fence for FreezeMe. Seeing the footage of Yooka-Laylee has me itching to get into a 3D platformer, but at $10 I still don't know if it's worth it for me.
Wow, your regular update 3DS discounts are arguably better than the European 5 Year eShop Celebrations... Not to mention your E3 discounts next week. Lucky!
I'll just be waiting for the apposed June 14'th sale. Though the SEGA 3d sale is pretty temping as I just picked up gunstar heroes.
Getting Kirby and the Hyrule Warriors DLC.
Already preloaded Planet Robobot on my 3DS. Nothing for me otherwise, though.
Getting Kirby and Retro City Rampage and some sega games
I'll be saving for the sale!
@Grumblevolcano So, have we officially given up on an ND before E3 yet? Still weird they aren't doing one at E3, I'm really not a fan of Treehouse, too much time on the people's faces, not enough on the games. It's more like hanging out at the videogame club in college than a professional presentation.
@Ralizah I didn't even know they did pre-downloads on the 3DS, that's nice to know.
Nothing for me. I'll wait for next week.
Gonna get Olympia rising, looks pretty cool. And I also recommend anyone who hasn't gotten Retro City Rampage at this point, pick it up now while it's on sale. Very fun game well worth the price!
I'm hoping we get a new WarioWare or Wario Land announced at e3... Well, I guess I should hope we get any new announcement at all.
I've already prepurchased Kirby.
I guess I'll get Wario, only because I'm rather curious in it and to see how bad it is.
Sega is doing more for the eshop than Nintendo themselves. What has this world come to?
I'll be waiting for the US eshop game sales to be announced. I have some games on my wishlist, so hopefully I'll benefit from the sale!
@rjejr On certain first-party games. If you're planning on getting it anyway, it's a nice feature.
I'll download Kirby: Planet Robobot, but later on down the road after I complete at least 2 games on my backlog.
Currently I'm more likely to download the Robobot 3DS Theme
@rjejr Yeah, I think they'll give announcements during the Treehouse streams instead. Stuff like "As you can see, we brought the Master Cycle from Mario Kart 8 into Zelda Wii U. By the way, there's some new Mario Kart 8 DLC coming out this week."
@Grumblevolcano If I could tear around Hyrule on a motorcycle, hacking away at baddies as I drive by them... surely that would be the most glorious Zelda game of them all.
I'm afraid of grabbing something this week, only for there to be a better deal next week. Either way, screw it. Streets of Rage 2 and Gunstar for me.
Why do they have such crappy sales in the US eShop? There has literally been nothing on sale I have wanted for months. EU eShop gets awesome sales AND has better Nintendo Selects. I have been waiting for them to add Lego Undercover in the US forever. What gives Nintendo? Treat your largest market like you actually WANT them to buy your games...
Nothing for me this week. Kirby Triple Deluxe debuted at $34.99. I wonder want warrants the $5 increase for Planet Robobot.
Olympia Rising actually looks pretty excellent to me. I would pick it up if I didn't already have so much to play.
Oh and Retro City Rampage is on sale for PS4 so I bought it there.
@garthvader You probably missed the note that there's a giant NA eshop sale next week to correspond with E3.
@abbyhitter The price of video games and other goods have gone up since then. A lot of other 3ds games are now 39.99
Not knowing what the E3 sales are actually going to be has moved Kirby from a day 1 buy to a week 1 buy. I don't think I'm alone in this and I've gotta wonder what Nintendo's thought process was here unless they just don't think 3DS Kirby qualifies as a major release.
Surprised that's there's no VC for 3ds this week. I might pick up some Sega 3d classics, I'll hold off on Robobot since by my estimation used copies will be out within a few days.
@Grumblevolcano That all sounds good, except the first part of the DLC won't be out until Oct and the 2nd part in March 2017. Of course we can pre-pay for it all now.
@rjejr I think same week is more likely with pack 4 in November. Don't forget that the main source of income for Nintendo until Sun/Moon comes out is amiibo and that every MK8 DLC pack comes with amiibo costumes!
@Grumblevolcano
I saw that but EU had a huge sale with games I would actually buy a few weeks ago and they got more Nintendo Selects offerings. I will believe we get good sale offerings when I see it.
The E3 community is now open
@Grumblevolcano Also in time before the fire emblem app.
@Grumblevolcano I thought their main source of income these days was licensing to Vans.
Oh well, the sooner the better for this amiibo and matching Midgar track.
@Roam85 I'm not too sure the mobile games will do well. The success of a mobile game depends not on downloads but rather microtransaction sales.
@Grumblevolcano Very true, though all the 3DS 1-4 dollar dlc is essentially microtransactions, so I imagine the phone variant will be more of the same. Pay for maps. Difference is platinum coins for playing.
@Roam85 Have to disagree there, microtransactions can be bought multiple times whereas for the DLC you can only buy once.
@Pokefanmum82 yep, although I very much doubt Kirby will be on sale in one week, so I'm grabbing that regardless.
Booooo! These are the same 3DS sales from earlier in the week. Booo, I say! BOOOOO!
Picked up Streets of Rage 2, Gunstar Heroes, and Ecco the Dolphin! All three games that were on my get list for a long time. I've played Steets of Rage 2 countless times on the genesis, but having local play with other 3DS systems easily make this purchase worthwhile. I've never played the other two I bought before though!
Booooooring
Your just plain suck Nintendo!! Thanks for nothing again!! Really sick of this!!
@Dpullam I found the local play of Streets of Rage 2 to be pretty poor - plagued with slow down.
I purchased Streets of Rage 2 and since I really like how well it has been ported to the 3DS I may have to pick up some of the other ones like Ecco the Dolphin or maybe Gunstar Heroes. May as well take advantage of the sales while I can since I regret not purchasing them in the previous ones!
can anybody enter the theme shop? i´ve tried but it says content is not available
Olympia Rising for me! I like so much Elliot Quest from PlayEveryWare it's sure I will like this game.
Another terrible week
Why couldn't Wii U get a basic Kirby platformer? 3DS already had Triple Deluxe, it didn't need another one. All Wii U has is Virtual Console and Rainbow Curse, which don't count.
@Clownshoes Generic?
@Grumblevolcano Thanks for the heads-up for HWL. Spotpass settings were not on because there were not enough save slots. Didn't even realise. Remedied now.
olympia rising day 2!
