Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker (Switch)

If you didn't play this on Wii U or 3DS, we absolutely recommend indulging in this gentle puzzle platformer on Switch. Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker sees the eponymous fun-guy trotting around cube-like and contained 3D islands collecting trinkets and progressing to the next cube-like and contained 3D island. Weighed down by his backpack, Toad is unable to jump in this game, which means solving environmental puzzles to raise and lower platforms, hit switches, and collect stuff. There's some two-player co-op with Toadette, and there's even a nice little nugget of DLC for once you've polished off the main game. Lemon squeezy.

Inside (Switch eShop)

Gameplay-wise, Playdead's Inside is a pretty straightforward puzzle platformer. The unsettling world and steadily unfolding narrative are the real draw here. The puzzles feel very naturally integrated into the story, with all of the solutions incredibly intuitive and easy to work through. In terms of interesting narrative puzzle games on the Switch, you can't do much better — or simpler — than Inside.

Child of Light: Ultimate Edition (Switch eShop)

Child of Light's charming storybook visuals give the sense of an easy, breezy RPG adventure. Heavily inspired by Grandia and Final Fantasy, the game simplifies many RPG systems into a digestible, easy-to-master system that is snappy, fun, and engaging to play with. And, as a bonus, it won't take you much longer than 10 hours to roll credits.

Nintendo Switch Sports (Switch)

Essentially Wii Sports, but on Switch, Nintendo Switch Sports brings the approachable, motion-controlled activities of the famous Wii pack-in title to Switch and it's as easy to pick up and play as it ever was. It's not the most exciting title in the Switch library, but its familiar fonts and gyro-based fun wrap in a warm blanket anyone who first waggled back in the late 2000s. It's one of the easiest things to slip back into and still a compelling go-to game when you're in the mood.

ISLANDERS Console Edition (Switch eShop)

The strategy genre can be one of the most intimidating, but Islanders strips it down to its very basics while retaining all of the addictive fun we expect. Colourful visuals and simple UI help aid the player, and the game gradually introduces new structures and mechanics at a very digestible rate. You don't need to worry about money, it's all about placement, points, and unlocking new islands. City building without the stress? Yes please.

A Little To The Left (Switch eShop)

If you love organising things, then A Little To The Left takes that concept and puts it into a cosy, cute video game. The game turns tidying up into a bunch of logical little puzzles that are easy to solve but very rewarding and addictive. Moving eggs around and stacking paper can turn into arranging books in this beautiful-looking delight.

Shout out to Unpacking as well for more stress-free video games about tidying.

Disney Illusion Island (Switch)

Mickey Mouse and easy video games haven't always gone hand in hand, but Disney Illusion Island serves as a fantastic introduction to both the 2D platformer and Metroidvania genres. With fluid movement options, lots of collectibles, and a gorgeous cartoon world to explore, Mickey and friends' will charm everyone who picks it up. Fun for solo players and co-op adventures, too.

GRIS (Switch eShop)

One of the indie darlings of the last five years, GRIS' stunning visual style and emotive story pair up perfectly with simple, accessible gameplay that rewards without being overly tricky. GRIS' gameplay serves as a lovely tie-in with a story that focuses on mental health, with puzzles that make you feel like you've really overcome something without the punishment. This is one to pick up for the experience first and foremost, and what an experience it is — all the better when it's as accessible as it is.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder (Switch)

Tired of losing life after life after life? Switch characters to either Nabbit or one of the available Yoshis and you can experience all the wonder in Super Mario Bros. Wonder and none of the 'Oh crap, not again!' Taking control of a character that can't die from hits makes navigating Worlds much easier, and the sights in this game are a joy that any Switch gamer should behold.

Alternatively, New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe offers another adventure with Nabbit available for anybody looking for an easier time. It's not as exciting a journey as Mario's latest 2D adventure, and it's starting to look its age, but it's still a very good time.
