Pentiment Switch eShop
£7.49 (-50% off) £14.99
Pentiment is a fantastic adventure RPG that revels in a studious approach to history and immaculate recreations of the styles and traditions of 16th-century Bavaria. There's a super smart, funny, and engaging murder mystery to investigate here, but it's how that mystery is so fully rooted in the world that's been lovingly crafted around it that really elevates this experience.
It's one of the best games of the past decade, hands down, and to have it running and performing perfectly on Switch is a joyous thing — it feels like it was made for Nintendo's console. This is about as essential as games get.
Pepper Grinder Switch eShop
£4.49 (-67% off) £13.49
Pepper Grinder is a wonderfully inventive and fun platformer. Channelling the spirits of several retro dig-based games, it may have a runtime that feels a little too short, but this is ultimately a deeply enjoyable, challenging, and highly replayable game with lots of personality.
If any of that sounds interesting, we’d suggest you pick up Pepper Grinder at the next opportunity - and there's even a downloadable demo if you're on the fence.

Persona 4 Golden Switch eShop
£8.99 (-50% off) £17.99
Persona 4 Golden remains a thoroughly enjoyable and engrossing RPG that, for the most part, has stood the test of time.
Although its visuals might be a bit dated, the gameplay and story presented here do more than enough to justify the purchase, while all the tweaks and additions that came with this ‘Golden’ edition round out most of the rougher edges from the initial PS2 release.
If you're looking to give the Persona series a shot, Persona 5 Royal is a good place to start, but P4G is an excellent entry in the series and one that we would recommend you pick up when you can.
Pizza Tower Switch eShop
£8.99 (-50% off) £17.99
Pizza Tower is the rare sort of game that improves on its inspiration in nearly every way, building upon many of Nintendo’s Wario Land ideas with impressive results. This is an incredibly satisfying, creative, and addictive platformer that’ll keep you busy for a long time if you want to 100% it.
Anyone who loved the old Wario Land games will adore this, as will anyone who’s looking for something new with a high skill ceiling and lots of technical depth. Pizza Tower has definitely got it where it counts - platformers don’t get much better than this.
Prodeus Switch
£11.99 (-40% off) £19.99
Prodeus is the kind of game that knows exactly what it wants to do and executes that vision flawlessly.
It’s not complicated and it’s nothing you haven’t seen before, but every inch of this experience was clearly crafted with passion and talent. The intense firefights, expansive arsenal, metal music, and sprawling level designs all come together to make Prodeus feel like a game that’s just the right mix of retro and modern.
If you have ever been a fan of Doom, Quake, Wolfenstein, or any of the indie boomer shooters of the last few years, you owe it to yourself to give Prodeus a shot. Even if you haven’t much been into the genre before, we’d say this is an excellent place to jump in and see what it’s about.
Quake Switch eShop
£3.19 (-60% off) £7.99
Quake returns in a feature-rich remaster that delicately updates the classic FPS, adding lots of optional bells and whistles, packing in a ton of content, and delivering the definitive way to play this masterpiece in the process.
There's a wealth of online and co-op options here, a glorious new expansion to blast through from MachineGames, super slick performance in both docked and handheld modes, and it's all available at a cracking price point.
This really is a stellar port of one gaming's true greats and an absolutely essential addition to your Switch library.
Quake II Switch eShop
£3.19 (-60% off) £7.99
Quake II arrives on Switch in the form of one of the very best remasters we've ever had the pleasure of digging into.
With enhanced graphics and audio, refined AI, all-new animations, the iD Vault, a brand new episode, and all previously released DLC in the mix — plus the N64 version — this is an exhaustive package that Quake fans are absolutely gonna eat up.
Add in crossplay support, gyro controls, and lots of co-op and competitive ways to play locally and online, and you've got an outstanding release.
R-Type Delta: HD Boosted Switch
£12.41 (-40% off) £20.69
A true arcade game that never was, and confined to the PlayStation until now, shoot-'em-up fans will adore what’s in store. A seminal work that has never looked better, R-Type Delta, with its boundless creativity and exacting design, stands out not just amongst its peers, but as perhaps the best R-Type the series ever produced.
Yes, it’s still crazy tough, and no quick restarts or scene-skipping is painful, but this new HD revamp is by far the best way to play it. If you’re itching for a shoot-'em-up experience of note, this will make your year.
Radiant Silvergun Switch eShop
£6.11 (-60% off) £15.29
Radiant Silvergun remains, despite its uncompromising nature, deservedly celebrated. The game wears its hardcore credentials on its sleeve, and its depth in both technical and artistic terms is astonishing. As stimulating and rewarding as it is exhausting, it’s a labour that has transcended not only the genre but the medium to some degree.
Regardless of its difficulty — and in that difficulty, its lack of immediate connection — those who learn to fell the game proper can say they truly lived Radiant Silvergun. That’s an experience worth fighting for.
Rocket Knight Adventures: Re-Sparked Switch eShop
£18.74 (-25% off) £24.99
Rocket Knight Adventures is a series comprising two fine games and one stellar, timeless piece of work. While the sequels are above average for '90s platform gaming, it’s the series debut that really informs this review’s score. Rocket Knight Adventures is a title that sits comfortably alongside Gunstar Heroes in the pantheon of exceptional games overlooked in their heyday.
It does everything an arcade action adventure needs to, and more, outdoing a vast number of actual arcade games in the process. Its constantly evolving stages, incredible variety of scenarios, and driving cinematic soundtrack make it one of the best of its kind. If that’s not the very definition of underrated, we don’t know what is.
SEGA AGES Herzog Zwei Switch eShop
£1.79 (-70% off) £5.99
There aren't many games from three or more decades ago that you can truly say have stood the test of time, but Herzog Zwei is such a perfectly-balanced strategy offering that it's genuinely hard to pick fault or suggest how it could be improved or enhanced.
Sure, the unit AI can be a little basic, the online play is a bit jerky and the split-screen mode in multiplayer cuts off a lot of your viewing area (and also reduces the ability to launch sneak-attacks) but the core gameplay is utterly fantastic, and remains just as addictive and engaging today as it was back in 1989, when the game first arrived in Japanese stores.
In single-player, the varied map types and scalable difficulty mean that Herzog Zwei will keep you entertained for weeks (if not years) but when played with another person — be it locally on the same console or online — this game is elevated to a whole new level of greatness. Even if RTS titles aren't your cup of tea, we highly recommend you give this one a whirl because, outside of spiritual successor AirMech, there really hasn't been a game quite like this since.
SEGA AGES Out Run Switch eShop
£1.79 (-70% off) £5.99
If you originally missed out on the 3DS port, this is about as essential a retro release as you can get. Out Run has always been an infinitely playable game, and the new unlockables and online rankings only increase its longevity further.
Those with the 3DS version will have to decide whether it’s worth buying what’s more or less the same game again in order to play it on their TV, but for everyone else with an interest in retro gaming, it’s a must-have.
Signalis Switch eShop
£11.19 (-30% off) £15.99
Signalis came out of nowhere to provide survival horror fans a near-perfect love letter to the long-running genre.
It is at its best when you're darting between enemies, using stealth and patience rather than brute force. While some of the combat encounters felt a little forced, the puzzles are just the right mix of challenging and approachable. The surreal imagery and unique storytelling structure add to the overall polish of a game that is the perfect length for what it is.
There have been an awful lot of homages to classic survival horror, but Signalis stands as one of the best.
Slay the Spire Switch eShop
£4.99 (-75% off) £19.99
Slay the Spire is an endlessly addictive roguelike card-battler that’s a perfect fit for Switch; a beautifully balanced game that arrived on Nintendo's system with all the benefits of an extended period of Early Access on PC. Its combination of ferocious battles, entertaining chance encounters, and selection of three impressively different player characters make every run to the top a nerve-wracking and totally absorbing affair.
Massively inventive sets of cards combine majestically into hugely destructive combos and attack and defence options fuse perfectly together, enabling you to use the information provided by the brilliantly transparent Intent system to strategise endlessly against hordes of foul monstrosities.
Sure, you’ll eventually see every enemy and chance encounter, and yes, there are a few frame rate niggles here and there, but overall this is one dungeon crawler that will live long in our system memories.
Split Fiction Switch 2
£29.24 (-35% off) £44.99
Split Fiction feels like a gift. Its sole aim is to entertain and bring players together by testing them at every turn. Hazelight gives us two distinct worlds, each filled with a huge array of activities for co-op partners to enjoy and argue over.
It serves as a surprising visual showcase for the Switch 2 and enhances the Friend's Pass feature, allowing our original Switch buddies to join in the fun.
STALKER: Call of Prypiat Switch eShop
£10.71 (-33% off) £15.99
Call of Prypiat is the most refined experience of the STALKER trilogy. Everything from the HUD to the survival mechanics has been optimised to give the best experience for would-be Stalkers. Visible status icons and an on-screen quickslot view mean going into menus less frequently.
The shooting is still fantastic, with minor refinements of Chornobyl and Clear Sky's system making this the smoothest bullet thrower of the bunch. It’s worth noting that the generous assist options present on these versions mitigate the series' notorious fiddly aiming, too.

Will probably go for Balatro given how well it's been received.
For anyone who has the Switch 2 version, does it run ok? I've seen some people it's brilliant and others say it's a bit of a buggy mess but maybe it's been patched out a bit?
88? That's a curious number. I hope it's just a coincidence.
Don’t forget Kingdom Come, the only true rpg
I picked up the Digimon games that were on sale as well as Shin Megami Tensei V deluxe edition.
This type of list had me discover Vanillaware, I first got Unicorn Overlord then 13 Sentinels. Loved both.
Now I got curious about Unsighted as I saw it has co-op. Will have to look up if it's good co-op.
Surprised Tunic didn't get more than an 8 here!
wow, this was a bad sale
Meh, too many switch 1 games.
Only 88. Buy them all, guys.
SEGA AGES: Space Harrier’s down under two quid as well, last I looked. For the defining shmup of 1985, in 1080p widescreen no less (hell of a step up from 320x224), and cheaper than ten plays of the coin-op back in the day, it’d be rude not to.
I found Kaze and the Wild Masks generic looking, unpleasant to play and criminally overrated. But I'm in the minority there.
Everybody go play The Rogue Prince of Persia though. Now that is a bloody good 2D platformer.
Cast n chill looks incredible. Keep dropping the indie titles in those lists, they need more visibility, im buying that one because of this article, had no idea the perfect game existed!
I think I'm still trying to get some more value out of my existing purchases for now. Need to beat hard modes Cyberpunk, RE9 and Starfox, and also go through the sponsor objectives in Grid: Legends.
@Nintoz after hundreds of hours on the Switch 1 version, I moved over (starting again) on the switch 2 version and again a lot of hours - no issues that I noticed
@JimNorman Darn! I hate it when you do these articles! I have no willpower………
@BaldB3lper78 Oh well, I dipped in and bought a ‘few’ titles. Good sale.
@elhozzo Thank you!!
@Nintoz Balatro Switch 2 Edition has worked perfectly for me since day 1.
@DarkCoolEdge As they say, it's all the games that has received a 9 or 10 in a Nindeno Life review that is on sale, so in this case it is. These articles are basically autogenerated.
@Fiskern 😅 that's a relief
@DarkCoolEdge To be honest, with how they do pride content each year, it would definitely surprise me if it was intentional.
I bought The Happy Tree Frog and have been having a blast. Thanks for the recommendations
I bought Darwin's Paradox. Haven't played it yet but I think it looks like my sort of game and is 40% off.
Then I impulsively decided to buy Pragmata (not on sale). I know the physical is just a game key card, but it looks like it's no longer available at key UK retailers (Amazon and Smyths), so when I saw it was in stock in Argos I jumped at the opportunity to buy it. I've played about an hour and whilst I have no doubt it would look better if I bought it for my Xbox, I am really happy with how it plays.
@Whirlwound Do you not find Space Harrier just not quite right without a big joystick like it used to have ?
Don’t get Absolum it’s really glitchy (It’s okay on Xbox where I bought it again it’s a good game). Unless there is a Switch 2 version or upgrade I don’t know about. (I can’t believe that they said it is definitely not getting ported to Xbox saying that and then releasing it just a few weeks later is scummy.)
@h3s To be fair, dude, I don’t find it right without a honk-off massive hydraulic sit-in unit, like when I first saw it at Alton Towers when it was the best ride there 40 years ago.
But when it comes down to it, 1080p on a similarly honk-off massive widescreen, or a lenticular screen on a 3DS, are as close as I’m likely to get for the foreseeable. Unless I do manage to make it to Sega World Fuchu next time I go to Japan.
And you really can’t whinge at one of the greatest shmups ever created for under two quid.
I don't remember hearing about Kraino Origins before, but I bought it thanks to this article. Played the first level and the first mini challenge level and it's definitely a fun game so far. Also bought FAST RMX, which I've been interested in for the last nine years (😬) but never picked it up until now.
If you've played Prodeus on anything more capable the Switch version is horrendous visually and from a performance perspective.
I'll take Metro Redux, kaze and Quake 2 pls
I've played 20 of these and another 10-ish are on my wishlist. I probably won't grab anymore right now though because I have too many games.
@h3s There is a switch2 version comming. And I have played this quite a bit with my brother and experienced no major issues with it.
But I do have a very casual "let's just have fun" attitude towards beatem ups so ther might be subtleties I have not noticed.
@Whirlwound you had me at Sega and 80’s.
Can we start ordering these in release date order?
