To be fair, 2-D Mario games don't really change that much from time to time. This can be an example of "if it ain't broke, then don't fix it!!"

Also, it's called New Super Mario Bros Wii. Why would they call it anything else if it is not similar to the DS game?

Shush now, fanboys getting angry.

Jeez, are you serious?

Need we screenshot comparisons? There are enough differences in the first damn level to know that the game isn't an exact copy to atone for the rest of the game.

This. Really, you can use it for anything you don't know the answer for.

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.

@brainofj That's cool. I get your opinion and you get mine. I'm amazed that we're even holding an intelligent conversation on the INTERNET. Seriously; THE INTERNET. I thought everyone on the internet was an extreme fanboy or like PheonixSage! It's amazing!

Wait, we shout for a new, traditional 2D Mario for about 15 years, and then when they make a new, traditional 2D Mario it's complained about because its too similar to the old ones?

NSMB Wii is considerably different than the DS version. It's a completely different level set with different enemies, powerups, play mechanics and bosses. It's also much more challenging than the DS version, which was a cakewalk. IMO, the Wii release is the hardest 2d mario game yet, surpassing even 1 (maybe not Japanese Mario 2 [Lost Levels]). It's also longer than the DS version with more secrets. Throw in multiplayer (although I think single player is more fun if you're actually trying to finish the game... multi is just chaotic), a whole extra world once you complete the game, the best final boss yet, and finally in widescreen at the highest resolution of any 2d Mario game thus far (helping make it the most visually appealing, imo) and I'd say it justifies it's price and name. It's all very familiar, but also all new.

Except that the "new" picture isn't from NSMBW.

They meant its similar to the DS version, because to b honest the first level of NSMB and NSMBW look exactly the same. (I mean setting wise, not the level design.)

Setting wise. They went to a dessert, a snow filled place, a tropical set of islands (hope they dont get lost), a jungle, a mountain, and up in the clouds, then back to a volcano. WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT? The first one, had you running back and forth, over the same areas.

Omg, the SAME SETTING?! What?! Oh dear Lord almighty, its a travesty!

Next thing you know they'll complain that the next Mario game has Mario in it.

The "New" moniker is just needlessly confusing and controversial. I had to explain to a customer this past Saturday that a game with "New" in the title was, in fact, three and a half years old (NSMBDS, of course). Why couldn't they have just called it Super Mario Bros. 4, and then Wii would be 5? That kind of thing seems to be quite popular nowadays.

I'm sick to death of the assertion that NSMBW is just like NSMBDS. I played both of them at NSMBW launch, and believe me, they are NOT the same. NSMBW is unquestionably superior in graphics, audio, level design, and even control! Not that NSMBDS is BAD, of course...just not as awesome at its successor.

NSMBWii is to NSMB what The Lost Levels is to SMB1. So this argument is two decades old.

There are slight differences, but not enough to label it "new".

NSMB Wii gets a slap in the face for not supporting FullScreen SDTV's properly. Ohhhh how i hate those black bars on the top and bottom of the screen...Makes the screen look smaller and makes the graphics less impressive due to the smaller size. Anyways as for it being 'new'....Well, it definitly would of felt a lot more newer if I never played the DS game. But the Wii version destroys the DS version on every level possible....except the awesome VS mode that was on the DS which didn't make it to the Wii version.
