If new amiibo outfits came out, what would you think would make the cut? I would have to say Splatoon for sure, but not sure about what else, maybe Pokemon, Dr Mario, Chibi Robo, also for characters, would love Dry bones/King Boo/Rob/Funky Kong!....really do hope we get new DLC....
" ... or flat-out deliberate troll.
The idea that this is some innocent joke with an incidental reference to MK8 is nonsense. ..." @gcunit
How the heck is it a troll post? I know I'm not being trolled. The post is as simple as it can get and aligns with Nintendo's tendency to make short jokes on their social media pages.
Right now it's a lot of people making this tweet out for what it really is. If DLC comes out after this that's fine, but nowadays we want to slam Nintendo for anything, don't we? The hype and speculation surrounding this tweet is ridiculous.
As far as my wishes for DLC goes, I'd like a Double Dash mode, but I rather that gets saved for Mario Kart 9. Mushroom City and Mushroom Bridge from the GCN would be nice...
Oh yeah. Mario Party did that with balls (Bumper Balls), but one with actual cars in a Mario Kart game would be great.
As for the DLC? I think it's happening. They need some more stuff for this year, and Mario Kart 8 DLC is cheaper and easier to make than a whole new game would be.
My uncle is a janitor at Nintendo Japan and he told me not only is there new Mario Kart DLC coming it's called the NX cup and it will be available for free dropping during E3
@Grumblevolcano And how would not creating an MK9 entice one to buy an NX? I think it's safe to say that a significant chunk of people bought a Wii U for MK8 and Smash alone. Everything else is gravy.
@rockodoodle Simple, more than just a few games are required for a console to sell. You need to look at why people didn't buy a Wii U. And why is that?
. Underpowered
. Poor 3rd party support
. Gigantic game droughts
. Not a proper online system (as in Wii U had no party chat and purchases tied to system instead of solely tied to NNID)
. Named poorly
. NX was announced barely 2 years into its life
@Blue_Blur Oh gosh. Burning Depths... I hate that one so much. It's worse than Cheese Land, and I don't say that lightly... It all looks the same in the depths, there's no sense of progression... I also hate the "Nights" course for the same reason. I feel I'm doing SAASRT a small injustice, but I honestly can't remember some of the tracks without looking them up, let alone remember the shape of the tracks. The Burnout Aircarrier, I remember the layout. That's about it. XD
In terms of Battle Modes, I'm actually pretty happy with the IDEA of the battle mode that we have in MK8, but I think that small, deliberately designed looping courses would be better. (Standard Ring, Maze Ring, Figure 8, Open Plaza.), as whilst the initial madness is fun, trying to catch the last opponent who runs away for ages isn't fun.
@GrumbleVolcano@Rockodoodle I think Nintendo will do 'deluxe editions' of both Super Smash Bros 4, and MK8, with all DLC included, to persuade Wii U owners to double dip, and to gain a good launch. I also expect to see a Hyrule Warriors deluxe port at some point, for the same reasoning. HOWEVER, I still think MK9 and HW2 are coming, but they'll just arrive later in it's lifetime. It's the same logic behind Twilight Princess on both Gamecube and Wii, and in fact, Zelda '17 on Wii U and NX. It sells consoles. A launch of Mario Kart, Zelda, Smash and probably another Mario title looks to the average consumer to be a very strong lineup.
But Nintendo would be crazy to leave Mario Kart, one of the few properties which consistantly generates a strong, mainly positive reception in both reviews and sales as just a port for NX, the console they're going to try and forget the Wii U with. There will be an MK9, I'm fairly sure. Smash 5 is a little trickier to debate, due to Sakurai getting frustrated at the long hours he has to put into Smash every time, and Splat2n will depend on what the NX actually is.
@Grumblevolcano that still doesn't explain how skipping Mario Kart for the next generation would sell more NX.... Not to mention missing out on about 8 million in sales.
@TheXReturns I could see something like that happening. Have a decent line up for those who haven't taken the plunge, then maybe add some features for the new system to hook in Wii U owners.
@rockodoodle It won't be skipping though because the people Nintendo would be targeting won't have played 8. I'm sure Nintendo knows by now that even if NX had no new games in the first year a significant number of Wii U owners would get NX anyway.
@TheXReturns: I don't like the NiGHTS track either, to be honest. It's so easy to get stuck during the waterfall part, too. I can remember most of the tracks if I think about the characters in the game. Like Amigo reminds me of Samba Studios, and Sunshine Tour, and so on. But most of them don't come to mind real quick like Mario Kart courses usually do.
For MK8's battle mode, I agree, the idea of the battle mode is fine, I just don't think using race tracks as the stages do it justice. Using Battle Stages instead of race tracks would enhance the game play, in my opinion. Battle Stages would get rid of the keep away problem, as well as camping problems, like how people like to stay under the bridge in Donut Plains 3. Having a circle or maze would make it much harder to stay in one place. I think more people would open up to the battle mode, too, if the mode got it's own stages. But of course, new battle modes are always welcome, though I doubt any DLC that might be coming out for this game will add a new mode.
@Blue_Blur Yeah, now I'm thinking about it, I remember more tracks, like Billy Hatcher's winter track, Shinobi's Ninja Garden, and Jet Set Radio's Beat City. They just aren't as memorable for me...
Perhaps Nintendo should include "Classic" Battle Mode, returning from SMK to MK7, with the more traditional approach, "Elimination" Battle Mode from MK8, and "Mixed" Battle Mode to act as the specialist stage version of MK8's battle mode. I don't think anyone could complain about that. XD I don't want them to go too crazy though. Three Battle Modes is fine, but more would make it too gimmicky. You could probably cut "Elimination" anyway.
@Grumblevolcano That still doesn't make much sense to me. Doesn't seem like it should be an either/or proposition. Why not offer somethings for those who didn't get the Wii U AND those who did? I'm pretty sure that MK9 will sell about as much as the previous version. Not to mention those who will buy the system pretty much just for that, or at least for that and maybe 2-3 other titles.
