@Fizza There's no harm in trying (if you have a disc to hand) - worst case it just won't read the disc. I've only just realised that I've never actually tried a PS2 disc in the PS3 (Slim, same as your previous pic) I just assumed it didn't work. I've still got the PS2 kicking around though so I've no real need to, although one less console to connect is always a bonus.
@Scooby-Doo Don't have a PS account (and am a bit too lazy to make one right now XD) but cheers for the tip-off!
Oh and one last question before I go: PS1 games still run natively on a PS3 Slim right? Been thinking about picking Resident Evil 1, 2 and 3 for next Halloween and would love to be able to play them on PS3 if possible!

@Fizza I haven't tested that yet, but they are supposed to. If you can't and I'm just misremembering, I know you can get 1 and 3 of those digitally, but they should work as disks as well.
Truly I am mankind's natural foe! Evil Incarnate! A walking cataclysm! A shapeless insanity! GUNDHAM TANAKA!
Kelpies. Be they hound or horse?

@Fizza Just for clarity - PS3 Slim will play PS1 discs but not natively, it's emulation. Most games will run fine most of the time but you may occasionally find the odd quirk (e.g. I had significant slowdown in Hogs of War).
@Buizel I've never played PS1 games before so I doubt I'll be able to tell the difference between a native port and emulation myself so that should be fine (I'll make sure to take a look at a list of PS1 games with issues though like you mentioned with Hogs of War). I assume saving works just fine regardless of whether it's native or emulated though? (i.e. it saves to the PS3's digital Memory Card)

Oh, one more thing.
Your PS3 region determine which region of PS1 games you can play.
If your PS3 machine region is ASIA / Japan, it can play PS1 games Japanese version.
The PS1 games played on PS3 will get emulated to 1080p output.
But, PS3 machine is NOT good for playing DDR PS1 games as the arrows and the songs will be really offsync if you play them on PS3.
The arrows move faster than the songs.
@Magician Heh. I have MH World on PS4 (unplayed, but bought in a steep sale), but I'm thinking about just selling it and picking up a copy on Steam. I don't want to pay out the butt just to be able to enjoy the game online.
People can trash talk NSO all they like, but for those of us who mainly just want to be able to play online, it's vastly less offensive in terms of pricing.
@Ralizah Very offensive pricing indeed. Worse yet, I had hopes of grabbing a couple years worth of PS Essential membership during a Black Friday deal or something. No dice. Sony ceased the PS+ subscription gift cards a year ago.
Just going to have to bite the bullet.
Switch Physical Collection - 1,537 games (as of December 22nd, 2025)
Switch 2 Physical Collection - 4 games (as of December 8th, 2025)
One of my friends who asked me to saddle up for MHR already tapped out because the combat is too stiff. So I tell him that if he wants more fluid combat against big monsters that he should check out Dragon's Dogma. I tell him that I hope the sequel adds co-op.
Yesterday's announcement comes and....no co-op.
Wut?
Feels like a missed opportunity.

Finished up Valkyrie Elysium yesterday. It's a bit brief by RPG standards (I finished it in just about 20 hours, & I believe even managed to get the best ending), but that wasn't a big deal because there's not much story to it (most world building & background lore is relegated to environmental pickups called Hollow Blossoms & Verdant Blossoms which give you notes about the state of the world, and the latter particularly are important for getting the best ending. Also, you learn most of the deeper aspects about your party members by completing each of their own side quest lines, though I don't think these effect ending outcome).
Combat is really quite fun & snappy (you can lock on & zip to enemies from quite a distance away), and there's a lot of different ways to get the edge on your enemies (each enemy type is weak to one of the ten or so different weapons you collect, and each also has one of 5 elemental weaknesses, which you can take advantage of with magic attacks. Also, each of your party members has an elemental affinity & summoning them to fight by your side will coat your weapon with their element & amp the effectiveness of your magic attacks of the same type), with bosses usually having different points you can attack & dismember from them. That said, at least on Normal I was able to get by easily enough just by taking advantage of element weaknesses (I usually only took the time to take weapon weakness into account as well during boss fights).
It has a few small issues, like the fact that it doesn't feel buttery smooth 100% of the time (this is a very mid budget cross gen title, so the PS5 shouldn't have any issue at all), but the drops weren't as noticable as they were in Star Ocean: the Divine Force (which I also really enjoyed, BTW), so not a big issue. Also, you can only have so many weapons, magic, items, etc. equipped to their various quick access slots, so in the latter parts of the game I often had to pause at the start of nearly every single combat encounter in order to reassign slots (usually magic, since there are only 4 quick access slots, but 5 element types + healing magic, the latter you'll want to have equipped to a slot at all times since use of healing items negatively affects your mission completion grade if that matters to you. Grades don't effect which endings you have access to though, so it's not a big deal if you don't grade well).
Also not really an issue, but I get the feeling that a 5th party member was planned but cut at some point. There are enemies that are weak to Darkness, and while you do have access to Dark magic to counter them, there is no Dark element party member you can team up with to get the boosts you can get with the other element types. Plus, none of the bosses are weak to Darkness, even though there are a few that aesthetically/thematically SHOULD be (they're usually weak to something random like Lightning, or even weirdly enough Light, which is thematically their own element).
Anyways I picked it up during the PS Store's Black Friday sale for $30 (it also came with a free copy of one of the older Valkyrie Profile games, which I'm not sure if I'll play), and am glad I gave it a go.

I've been playing a lot of PS1 lately and I miss the old Playstation energy. Such a shame Japan Studios got dissolved into the Astro's Playroom team as they decided to prioritize the same crap we've played a thousand times over.
There's man all over for you, blaming on his boots the faults of his feet.
Started playing Spider Man 2 over the weekend. It's giving me the same vibes I had with inFamous: Second Son. Looks good, plays well, and has a huge world to just dilly-dally around in. I can see why this was nominated for GotYs.
Can't wait for that Wolverine game in 2025, yo.

I don't post here much but I'm curious to get some feedback.
So, Steamdeck OLED and a potential PS handheld. How many would be interested in a PS handheld, but aren't interested in Steamdeck? Knowing the Deck gets all PS exclusives now, plus all Xbox exclusives, and free online with gyro aiming across the board, and knowing PS would force twin stick only aiming on a handheld, wouldn't have Xbox games and online is behind a $60 pay wall.
Not to judge. There's no wrong answer. I'm just genuinely interested in understanding the perspective of those who fall into that category, and what specifically it is that draws them to the one but not the other. I just saw some debates online and it led me to want to do some research of my own.
And do you feel a PS handheld has anything to offer at this point, now that Nintendo's handheld offers 3 modes of play, gyro and Nintendo games, and Steamdeck offers both PS/Xbox exclusives, free online and gyro aiming? As times change, I'm wondering if ppl feel there's even a need/desire for such a market in the current landscape we find ourselves in.
And if not, what if it was actually hybrid? Would that change your mind? And what if it offered system level gyro? At least for me, if it offered system level gyro (since most games don't include it like on Switch this is the only way), that would sell me on the idea even if I do already have a Deck.
@Ralizah
MH World can be had for $8 on Steam right now my friend
