@Snatcher It still wouldn’t be worth it even if they did the same thing as Fortnite and gave some primogems with the game but at that point it’s just a waste of plastic

@SwitchForce A physical version of Genshin is highly unlikely because the game is required to stay connected to servers with constant updates releasing regularly. A physical copy wouldn’t be able to play without updates and a constant internet connection. And the game is free so there’s no point buying a physical copy for a live service game, I doubt they will rework the game for the small percent of people asking for a physical version.

And others talk about Cloud and yet your stating this can't happen. That is a running joke here. It's not free there are microtransaction so where did you get free from? You still pay a ISP to have internet to play Genshin Impact so what is so free about that?

@crashcontrol True, I was just saying thats the closest we are ever going to get for a physical, and even then, I don't think that would ever happen, because its um, a mobile game.

@SwitchForce Free to start and download the game to begin with, there is nothing telling you to pay for anything within the game. I’ve been playing for 6 months and I am AR 55 yet I haven’t spend anything on it at all.

Yes, you can complete the story without so much as paying a cent on gacha. You're just not going to collect anything more than a small faction of the 5* characters and weapons along the way. Oh, and they'll keep adding more content so you're never truly finished.

If you approach it with a completionist mindset and want to collect absolutely everything, it's going to end up very expensive though. Again, there'll always be more updates so try not to get trapped in that cycle.

Offline mode is unlikely to happen because the game is fundamentally designed around the live service model and it'd need a redesign and a top to bottom rewrite to work otherwise. If nothing else, without syncing up your every action with the server it'd be entirely possible to savescum the random elements, particularly the gacha, and there goes their business model.

I wouldn't totally rule out a collectable physical release - because other live service games have occasionally had them - but you'd still need to go online and download regular updates to play it, so it'd basically just be a shelf copy. In the meantime, if you want physical collectables you can get the soundtracks.

If you want to play it while out and about, the phone version is more than adequate. I doubt a Switch release could look much better and it's not a very twitchy game, so is entirely playable with touch controls.

That's not to say that a Switch version wouldn't be nice to have too. It's just that as time goes on it feels more like they've missed the boat with it.

@Matt_Barber It's definitely not smart to play this game with the mentality of collecting every character. You'd have to whale the game and pay hundreds or even thousands of dollars to accomplish that. It's best to just pick and choose the characters you want and ignore the others, even if you're paying. There's just too many characters and too few Primogems otherwise.

The game is perfectly playable F2P. In fact you largely don't even need the gacha at all (you don't get a Geo character outside of banners, but there is a free Beginner's banner that guarantees you Noelle within your first 10 pulls). The game is extremely playable without needing the stronger characters from the gacha, they just make the game easier.

Agreed, although, I do Enjoy saving up for the select few characters that I like, Hu tao being one of them.

@Greatluigi You know Hu Tao just had a rerun in November, right? If she gets another rerun it'll be a while.

Most of the Liyue characters have been rerun already so it's going to be at least a few months before they come back around. 2.5 is rumored to be focused around Inazuma so we're more likely to see Inazuma reruns up next (some combination of Ayaka, Yoimiya, Raiden, and Kokomi). Yae Miko is also supposed to make her debut, and I've heard rumors about Kazuha as well (who's technically a Liyue character but is from Inazuma so he could fit 2.5). And Venti and Klee haven't been rerun in a while either, I predict they'll get rerun in 2.6. I think all of those characters would probably get reruns before we see another rerun of Hu Tao, and even then, after all of those reruns it might be time for Version 3.0 with Sumeru characters, so we could be waiting even longer.

tl;dr don't expect Hu Tao or anyone that's had a banner in the last few months to get a rerun anytime soon

@iLikeUrAttitude it's a game running on unity engine, which is a very demanded engine, they do a lot of engine level modification to make the game doesn't look like a unity game, and did a lot of optimization, but it is still limited by a lot of restrains that unity has, especially for switch, my guess is something that is very important for the game is missing for unity switch, which they might get something working but can't keep it running without huge performance impact, switch is running with pretty old hardware by today's standard, so eventually they gave up.

@crashcontrol Cut your ISP off and try to get to Genshin Impact without Internet. I doubt you can do that. That's the other cost people playing Genshin Impact or other Online games forget you have to pay a ISP to even have internet to go Online Gaming. And there are items you can buy on Genshin those are called Microtransaction if one doesn't know that's what those are called.

If this was so true-I don't hear stories or see links from NL or other sites clearly saying this was the issue alone as to why it doesn't come to Switch. For them to make a Physical cart for Switch would be in their best interest as China is where Genshin Impact originates from and they are selling Switches there so you would think they would want to corner that market. And them giving up would do a bigger disservice to their China Switch customers whom if people count are bigger market just by their population count to amass buying power.

@SwitchForce buying internet is buying something outside of the game not inside. Therefore you can still play the game without spending money IN THE GAME.

Is anybody playing it? Like is it any good? I may be trying it out for a silly reason so I wanna know what I'm getting myself into. I'm not a MMORPG fan (solo gamer).

@Ryu_Niiyama It's very good for a free game you can play on your phone, if that's not damning it with faint praise. Against the better PC and console open world RPGs it's less of a stand-out but there's still enough of a distinct identity to hold its own.

It's not an MMORPG either. Although there is co-op multiplayer you can unlock once you've got past a certain point in the story, you'll mostly be playing solo. It's just the live service nature of the game that means you've got to be online.

Anyway, give it half and hour and see what you think. It's not a very complicated game to get started with, so that ought to be enough to tell you whether you're going to like it or not.

@Matt_Barber I thought it would be crap, being a free mobile game of all things, plus people called it a BOTW clone, I'm happy to say I was so wrong.

@Ryu_Niiyama The game is much better than I expected. Before release many people were calling it a cheap BoTW clone, and being a gacha game I was a bit skeptical, but I ended up really loving it honestly.

The game has an interesting and fun combat system focused on constant switching your active party member to cause elemental reactions. Each character has a simple moveset but the point is to experiment the synergy between characters. The music in the game is wonderful and the world is both fun and rewarding to explore. The 2 areas in the game from release (Mondstat and Liyue) aren't incredibly special imo, but they seem to be getting much better with each update. The new area, Inazuma, has a variety of islands to explore and each one feels unique with interesting locations and designs. The main story isn't that enthralling as of yet, but some of the side quests in Inazuma are really well done.

The gacha mechanic is what a lot of people complain about, understadably so, but I find the game to be very free-to-play friendly. The only difficult content in the game is something called Spiral Abyss, which is a completely optional dungeon that resets twice a month. You can clear any content with the free characters the game gives you, and some of them (like Xiangling) are among the best characters in the game currently. Plus it is possible to save up the free summoning currency and get yourself a new 5 star every couple of months, just don't expect to get every new character that comes along and you'll be fine.

@Cynas At least the gacha's aren't PNG's, that then turn into mini auto fighter's.
