@Snatcher Yeah for sure, Genshin is certainly not what you'd typically expect when you hear "gacha game".

So far as comparisons with Nintendo games go, I'd say that it's rather more like Xenoblade 2 than Breath of the Wild. They've got quite similar art styles with the cell shading, the combat mechanics are built around elemental attacks with frequent party switching, and they've got a practically limitless selection of waifus-in-gacha.

That said, Mihoyo deserve credit for fusing a lot of different influences in there and creating something quite revolutionary in the process. It might be quite different from the typical gacha game of a few years ago, but most of the new ones that are coming out are very much in its image.

tbh, for a long time I just assumed Genshin Impact was on Switch. Because its a popular Japanese mobile game that was ported to consoles.

Non-binary, demiguy, making LPs, still alive

It's really hard to think that a game that can be so easily on mobile is taking so long to port over onto the Switch....

@kkslider5552000 Genshin is actually a Chinese game, but I have never heard about a Chinese game having a hard time going onto Switch, normally its the other way round with Nintendo trying to get games into China

Anyone wondering if they're going to have a Nintendo character tie in like they did for Aloy when Genshin released on PS4/PS5? Link seems like the obvious choice here, but not quite sure what they'd do with him. He doesn't really fit well with any of Genshin's elements (Anemo maybe? Or maybe Dendro if we get Dendro by then?) and he can use both swords and bows, so which one will they go for (or will they let him swap between the two like Tartaglia)?

I'd go with Pyra from Xenoblade 2 as a pyro/sword character. As above, the two games already have a lot in common, so they could really go to town with a crossover if they wanted to.

I always thought link being a wind character would work.

Nintendo are like woman, You love them for whats on the inside, not the outside…you know what I mean! Luzlane best girl!

I feel like if we were to get a Nintendo rep Fire Emblem would have a solid chance. Probably Marth since he's basically the poster boy of Fire Emblem, and he would fit the adult male model pretty well. Fire Emblem already got a crossover event with Dragalia Lost and has its own gacha mobile game so they would be able to do cross promotion for that.

Personally I would really love an Anemo Catalyst Wind Waker Link. I know it's super unlikely since they'd have to make a whole new character model for him, but I think it would be fun. Regular Link would be great too, but Wind Waker is my favourite Zelda game so I'm biased.

Whoever it is I just hope they're a bit better than Aloy. She's one of the worst, if not the worst, characters in the game. It's understandable she'd be a bit weaker since she was given for free, but hopefully the next one is on par with C0 Kaeya or something. At the very least beneficial in some teams with a kit that makes sense.

I feel like any rep they would choose would be someone who's well known and broadly popular, so they probably wouldn't choose anyone from Fire Emblem and Xenoblade. They're definitely popular IPs, but not super popular and broadly appealing, neither IP has really cracked 5 million in sales so they're relatively niche in the grand scheme of things. That's why I say Link is the obvious choice. Zelda is more popular than the two of them combined. Everyone knows Link. Doubly so after BotW.

To be honest I don't think Link would be able to be added to genshin and feel like the Link we know.
But I assume it doesn't have to be a big name since Aloy wasn't really in the forefront of my mind when I think of Playstation, so I say Fire Emblem.
If it's going for the Latest Fire emblem it's Blythe. If it's going to be how much money they can squeeze out of the whales it would be Camila I assume, but my hopeful wishes is Chrom if it is Fire Emblem.

I agree FE is waaay more likely.

I'm pretty sure popularity wasn't their sole consideration when picking the crossover character.

Rather, I think they chose Horizon: Zero Dawn because it was the Sony game that they drew most inspiration from. On the Nintendo side of things, I'd think that you could make a pretty good case for Zelda or Xenoblade to fill the equivalent role, but not so much Fire Emblem. One other possibility would be Nintendo's own mobile JRPG, Dragalia Lost, and that game has already done a lot of other crossovers.

Perhaps Mihoyo aren't just going to give us one character but all of these and more, and that's why they're taking so long.

I've never played HZD, but I would guess that the Aloy in Genshin Impact isn't the Aloy that Sony fans know in Horizon. Link is probably not going to feel quite the same in Genshin, they're just going to figure out how he can fit Genshin's mechanics. They'd give him a Normal Attack, Elemental Skill, and Elemental Burst like usual and just have those attacks be references to things he can do in Zelda. What those could be though, I'm not as sure about.

Well... yeah. I mean they're not going to put in Mario or Pikachu or something because they don't really fit the tone and gameplay of Genshin. They're going to pick the most broadly appealing character that fits the gameplay. In Nintendo's case, that's Link. And Genshin constantly draws comparisons to BotW and seems to take some inspiration from it, so it's only fitting that the Nintendo rep would be the star of that game.

If they did that, Sony would complain and demand that they include more Sony characters in Genshin. Mihoyo is probably only going to allow one Nintendo character into Genshin.

Are you even sure it'd get a Nintendo rep? So far Nintendo is the only console maker not to have a rep in Fortnite (and I'd have to imagine that has more to do with them than Epic), so I'm not so sure why they'd treat Genshin any different, unless it's more because one is multiplayer (with cross play) and the other isn't (as far as I know, I haven't played either title).

Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)

Uska

@RR529 Well Minecraft also also has a few Mario skins, but that's because Fortnite is a huge success and popular, which of course Genshin is popular so it's appropriate to think they'll do the same as they did with Playstation.

Also Genshin can be multi-player but I think if it does come to switch you'd have to have the online membership then you'd have to be offline alone, which is less fun. (i never played the ps4/5 ver. so idk what the game does with online membership)
