Topic: What Would You Want In A Switch Pro Update?

Im happy with the switch as it is right now except i would love to see a new version (1.5) where the handheld has an oled screen that can compete with the quality of an newer iPad screen. (And maybe a bigger screen also)

The «switch 2» can take its time, can wait until the chip upgrade that can be made is more significant than 5% increase.

Play mostly everything. 😊

Nintendo has filed a request for minor changes in SOC and memory. I say minor because apparently everything else remains the same. who knows i'm no hardware expert.

Interesting, might be a change of 32GB of onboard storage to 64GB?

Games like Dragon Quest Builders 2 and the NBA 2K games are onboard memory hogs.

It appears to be about SOC and ram changes, and I've read discussions outside of the main news about wether this could be a filing for updating the dev kits with Mariko or not.

More storage is by far the easiest change they could make. Excuse Australian dollars but just before the Switch launched a 120GB SATA SSD cost ~$70AU and 500GB cost ~$200AU. Today a 120GB SSD is ~$40AU and 500GB ~$100AU.

Basically, when the Switch launched 32GB was a bit stingy, should have probably had around 64GB (especially given the Wii U had a 32GB SKU in 2012!). In 2021? I'd be expecting 120GB at a minimum and, frankly, 256GB wouldn't be a stretch at all.

Here's what I would like:
Features I like:

4K (output to TV)
1080p Screen (portable use)
These two features alot of Trolls been conflating 4K to portable when the rumor list as 1080p portable.
So they can say it can't handle 4K games which is contrary to what is said the specs says.

128GB storage (Should be closer to 256GB standard)
8GB RAM (Should be really expandable to 16GB RAM model for orders-two different model a 8BG and 16GB model) - (Like iPhone options)

I would buy a Pro/1.5 if it would meet most of these wishes:

  • larger screen (decrease current bezel size to a minimum would suffice)
  • bluetooth audio
  • performance boost, mainly docked. Goal is to come closer to 1080p/60fps (priority depending on game) and shorter loading times overall

I don't care too much about improbed battery and internal memory size personally.

You will regardless of what is being said here. the memory will limit how many save data is stored.

Yeah, nah. Whether you mean storage or RAM neither will have much of an impact on how much save data can be stored. More RAM will generally mean the ability to load more of a game at once or being able to load higher resolution assets. More storage will mean more games before you have to resort to SD cards. But it's not the early 2000s, these days we're saving entire games on our consoles, save data is a tiny part of it.

With that said..... more and faster internal storage is inevitable. Because it's by quite a margin the technology that has been improving at the quickest pace over the last 5 years or so. Display tech being a distant second. There's a reason why Sony has been focusing so much of their marketing on the impact faster storage will have. It's because the sort of affordable flash you can get now is so far ahead of what was affordable ~5 years ago

Oh, and somewhat paradoxically the massive improvements in flash are also the reason why Nintendo deciding to only have 32GB of internal flash wasn't that huge of a limit. MicroSD cards got cheap quick.

@SwitchForce save data is so small that I wouldn't see myself in need for extra space for that next gen. I have 23gig system memory available so that's more than enough.

It's a tough question to answer because the Switch concept works so well. I can only think of wanting it to be more powerful, so that games that push it don't drop below 30fps in either docked or portable mode.

Reynoblade

From most to least important:

  • Better build quality: OLED screen, aluminum frame, new and improved Joy-Cons
  • More internal space: 128 Gb should be the minimum
  • Better specs to improve performance

The Terga X1+ Chip, that's it.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAy there.

@toiletduck then you don't own 300+ games to know that 32GB is a limiting factor. 32GB is for saved or picture storage not your DLC or game updates and eshop games that's on the sd storage. People don't get it 32GB is your saved data location. That's not saved to sd card this is the part people keep forgetting.

@Agriculture SSD that is a chip already built into the Switch aka storage of 32GB. Are you trying mislead readers. SSD doesn't have to look like a PC storage drive to be SSD. SSD are just chips no longer like moving drive aka HHD.

@SwitchForce that's the fun part of topics like these: I get to name the features most important for me. I understand perfectly fine where my saves go and I still don't need larger internal memory for that. Why are you always so passive agressive to people with another opinion or other gaming habits than yours?

It absolutely needs to have a fast SSD built in, or it will never be able to have ports of the PS5 and Series X games, since they will be built from the ground up to make use of a fast SSD.

So I never said that the Switch doesn't have solid state storage, I only said the Switch Pro/Switch 2 needs solid state storage that is close to as fast as the Series X. It could also do the same as the PS5 does in that the slower storage will be able to run current gen (Switch) games.

That way, you could have an internal storage that is above 2 gb/s that is used for Switch Pro/Switch 2 games, then an SD-card slot where you can install original Switch games. The only problem then is that the internal storage needs to be up gradable like how you can switch out the hard drive in a PS4.

The maximum speed of SD-cards the Switch can use is 104MB/s, and that is far from what will be needed to run Xbox Series X and PS5 games at lower settings. Those games will be made from the ground up to expect there to be faster storage.

@Agriculture I'll say this humans can't perceive access speed difference on a SSD or MicroSD. You aren't a machine that can calc in nano speeds to see the difference. You only see fake Benchmarks which have nothing to do with constant everyday 24/7 real life operations day in and day out. But here we think we can tell nano speeds which is just ludicrous to think we can. All transfer devices are limited to electronics atom barrier - the smaller you pack the more congested they become that can't change since more and more data are packed in the lanes. That's what happened and then Heat become the enemy of electronics requiring more cooling and that comes at a Price. Also if you open your case before the warranty or extended warranty is up consider your system Voided. So it's not as simple as open and replace so let's make that clear to owners whom system are still in Warranty-Doing so will void any Warranty you had.

I don't think you understand anything. If Nintendo released a Switch 2 which had a fast SSD of 3 gb/s, then games you play from a cartridge would be installed on the console, much like how it works on Xbox Series X and Playstation 5. When you have the game installed, it can pull up assets in real time. If Nintendo delay the release of a Switch 2 until about 2022 it's possible they could even match the PS5 SSD in speed.

It has nothing to do with access speed, instead it has to do with throughput. For example if you tried to load a room with 5 gigabytes of assets on a PS5 it would barely be noticeable and you can fully hide the transition with some short animation, while on the Switch it would take a full minute to enter the room.
