@Ralizah To be fair, any shrine that rewards you 'just for finding it' is simply one that has it's puzzle in the overworld, rather than in the shrine itself. But yeah, there was some definite padding with the combat shrinesp

@Pizzamorg Interesting. Biomutant hasn't been on my radar at all, but maybe I'll check it out in a sale sometime.

I've never had an issue ending games before I get sick of them, tbh. I like when games give me control over the pacing.

@link3710 Theoretically. But there's nothing satisfying about entering a shrine and immediately 'beating' it. Solving overworld puzzles is part of the general gameplay loop anyway, so it shouldn't count unless it's especially time-consuming.

Oh, I gave up on shrines in BotW after awhile ..... Not sure exactly how many I did, somewhere between 80-90, I think! One of the few I remember was that tilting my Switch to roll a big ball in a maze, which I quite liked due to it being like a toy I had a long time ago & I found it easy enough

Switch being at the mid point doesn't mean that the successor isn't a few years out (I'm still guesstimating 2023 announcement/2024 release) because if they make the successor BC then the Switch becomes a very premium budget console with likely the Lite and possibly the OLED depending on costs being the offerings. I do hope that for the successor if it is a Switch type system that they release the Lite version same day as well. MS and Sony have proven that consumers can handle a premium and budget entry to a new console as simultaneous skus with no issues. However the supply chain constraints and the chip shortage means a lot of systems will likely get longer lifecycles as a result. Including the SeriesX/PS5, I feel like the shift to cloud gaming is going to mean that there is less need for new hardware as often (not full lifetime but time between new hardware launches) because next up is likely finding some way to pull mobile gaming into the mix more concretely.

Just realized there's been a pretty big shift in Square Enix's attitude toward Switch. Up until now it's been mainly all JRPGs.

And I know a number of these are cloud versions, but it still illustrates the desire to put their more western focused games on the system. I think we'll continue to see more announced over the next two years.

  • Hitman 3
  • Dying Light
  • Dying Light 2
  • Guardians of the Galaxy
  • Kingdom Hearts Collection
  • Life Is Strange Collection Remastered
  • Life Is Strange True Colors
  • Lara Croft Guardian of Light
  • Lara Croft Temple of Osiris

I think the choices for cloud versions have all made sense except KH. Nonetheless, it's good to see them finally correct course. Guess when a system breaks 100m sold in less than 5 yrs (which it will by year's end) you can't treat it like a red headed stepchild forever.

Yeah Squeenix was playing it safe for a bit (still a lot of support and I love the tailor made games like Octopath). I feel like the work on retooling DQ XI might have helped them get a better grasp on the system and know what they can port or stream. That and seeing the sales dominance of the system. However ball is in the consumer’s court now; if we don’t buy the Squeenix is gonna assume that the only audience is for JRPGs. Kinda wish they would port the deus ex games.

And the FF XIII trilogy. Ima be ticked if we never get that.

Dying Light is sold on their store so they clearly have something to do with the distribution.

Hitman, that was SE title as long as I can remember.

Square Enix sold off IO Interactive and the Hitman franchise after Hitman 2016 didn't reach their expectations and the Dying Light franchise was never Square Enix.

I understand Techland makes Dying Light

However. The game and its sequel are being sold on their store so they clearly have something to do with its distribution.

So I am a couple of hours further into BOTW now. Feeling a little more mixed than I did in those opening hours. Not a fan of “go into the world and figure it out for yourself” game design of needing to go and locate one of the memories in order to keep progressing the story. I appreciate it is designed in this way for you to go and soak in the world and it is a truly lovely world to soak in, but I’d appreciate a bit more structure and purpose.

Especially as it seems like they use sort of shadow level gating throughout the world, with me often getting close to a tower and then just getting absolutely reamed, whether a monster just one shots me with a massive swing of their weapon or I just drown in enemies, it is clear the game is telling me I’m not meant to be there yet and I’m just like crying emoji I’m sorry, but you won’t tell me where the ***** to go!

Thankfully combat is still satisfying, I am still finding plenty of shrines along the way that so far I have been able to get through without the need for a guide - the one that bamboozled me for ages was the scoop one, because I thought as it was a pool of water I would need the ice power. When that didn’t work, I was trying random things and pulled the scoop out of the water with the magnet power. And I still am enjoying being in this world, but I really need to find one of these memories soon or I think I am going to start going sour.

@Pizzamorg Getting to Kakariko village to see Impa is your main goal for now.

You don't have to find the memories to advance the game, but if you find one memory, and see Impa afterward, you will get a good reward(a good piece of armor). I completed finding the memories late in the game, or after I beat the story.

If you're tired of enemies killing you too easily, cook one Hearty Raddish, or one Big Hearty Raddish - they will increase your heart containers temporarily - extremely useful. (When you see Impa in kakariko, she will direct you to the Lab in Hateno village. You'll get helpful things there.👌)

Defeating the 4 Divine Beasts will be your main goal after you see Impa.

Looks like Sony “accidentally” screwed up timing for release of GTA Trilogy remasters. I say “accidentally” because it’s pretty obvious they did it on purpose knowing it’ll spread across social media and they’d hope to get lots of sales that would have gone to Microsoft or to a lesser extent Nintendo (anyone buying on Switch will still buy on Switch regardless).

Oh yeah, I made it there, went to the lab, after going to the lab, they sent me back to Impa and she said I needed to discover at least one memory to progress the game. Have I misunderstood this then? If so, what am I doing then, just bumbling around the map hoping to bump into the four DBs? I was kinda hoping I could find a memory and then the game would go back to being more structured again, but I am worried if that isn’t the case!

Thanks for the tip with the cooking, tossing random ingredients together to make meals is surprisingly fun.

If you see a weird painter person, talk to him. He will help you locate the memories.

The memories are more of an optional quest. But they are important, since they reveal details about what happened 100 years ago, and finding them all gives you a slightly extended ending.

About structure, Impa may have already pointed you in the direction of the Divine Beasts. You can go find them in any order, but each region comes with it's own set of quests you can do and play in order. I'd recommend following the paths in case you don't want to do things out of "order".

But do take your time to explore and have fun, that's the main part of the game!

The painter guy does help, but I still feel I am mostly moving in vague directions (go to the north and then the south east from the castle or something. Like how does that help?). And often on the way of trying to follow these instructions, I stumble into random packs of enemies who just one shot me, so I assume that is the game telling me I am going the wrong way. The only quest marker I can see on the map is taking me back to Impa and she says I need to find at least one memory, there is no marker for any divine beasts to work towards.

So right now, I am just going from shrine to shrine completing those, as they seem to be the only things I can do with no friction.

@Pizzamorg Technically, you don’t have to do it at all. Heck, you can go straight to Gannon once you leave the plateau if you want too.
