@Octane The abilities I saw yesterday have been temporary. Like a 3 minute running speed boost potion, or the 40 minute spicy stew for cold-climate protection.
It's my impression that it will be the shrines is that will provide permanent things. But it's only an impression, not based on any hard facts.
@Socar
I still don't see how you're jumping to these conclusions. I certainly don't see how there must be some sort of issue. If they'd just shown Hyrule Field from Twilight Princess and you'd seen them getting hearts and rupees would you be worried? Because essentially that's what they've shown. Instead of hearts you now get food and instead or rupees you can sell items.
Frankly I don't see how an enemy dropping 1 or 5 rupees is better than an enemy dropping a sword or club that I can sell. Especially given that outside of the shops rupees are useless. More than that even. After playing through the HD remake of Twilight Princess? I believe I only brought something from the shops maybe three times. Rupees have been pretty useless for a long time.

@skywake Actually, rupees are useful outside of just shops. You need to get flippers to swim underwater in a link to the past. I haven't played all Zelda games, but from what I've played, you DO use them besides shops.
I wouldn't be worried about hearts and rupees popping out of grass because that's the tradition of Zelda games. Yeah....I'm imagining just how great it would be to instead look for weapons that may give poor prices and grind for those specific weapons in exchange for money which is bad if its the ONLY way to get better equipment that I can't get from outside.
Let's say that for this game, flippers come back and they are required to swim deep underwater but they cost 1000 rupees. Yeah, instead of finding a dungeon that can give me easy money, I now have to grind for weapons and sell them. And we don't even know how much each weapon is worth. So you have to get the best weapon to get that much. But then if the weapon is too damn powerful, then you might want to keep it and have to force yourself to sell cheap poor ones that give you around 10 rupees.
See where I'm getting at here? If not, then allow me to simplify it. What's the point of selling weapons if they will give you no good sums and if there is only one way to get best weapons? If you sell the best weapon, there's a chance you can't get it back again which means that there's a good chance you're weapon is pretty useful.
I'm sure that Nintendo will reveal ways to get money but right now, all I can think of is this limited way to get money. Even Fire Emblem does this better as saving towns isn't the only way to get cash but you can also get them from chests and enemy units. oh and selling weapons there isn't advisable unless you are selling cheap ones which aren't that reasonable to begin with.
@jariw You didn't read my previous post. Even if I adjust the new way of getting health, I need more pouches so that I can get more food. If I can only store little, then that's going to be problematic since this world is huge and the fact that its problematic to kill enemies because you need food and to get food, you have to kill the enemies.
Its a tradition to get items from dungeons that are longer than what shrines we've seen so far.
If shrines are to replace dungeons or sidequests, that's breaking the tradition of Zelda.
I feel this is similar to Phantom Hourglass where you have to find specific stones that not only make your swords stronger but it is the only way to progress the story.

You don't need to kill enemies to get food. Apples, fish, insects, boars, flowers are all parts of what's eatable, shown in the Treehouse stream.

Where do you get the idea that shrines replace dungeons? The first dungeon in the game can be reached after about an hour, according to Aonuma, but dungeons is not part of the E3 demo. Please go through the available material about the game before jumping to conclusions.
I really love the crafting and clothing functions in this game! I'm happy they're expanding upon the shield mechanic from Skyward Sword. Now you aren't just given the legendary green garbs, you're probably gonna have to work very hard for them. Plus now we can make Link a fashion model And the fact that he can use any weapon the enemies drop? Huge plus in my book.
I'm guessing the things like the Hero's Bow and Master Sword will be the reward to some major sidequests and such. The only thing I'm still worried about is that it'll be an open world with tiny little things scattered about, making it 90% empty space. We'll have to wait until launch to figure that out. But so far it looks very fun.
@Socar I think you are assuming too much about a game which is still a long ways away from release. (Well not as far away any more)
It doesn't look like rupees are found in the grass, but I'm certain they will balance it out well. Also there will probably be rupees found in some chests like in dungeons or other places.
Speaking of item space, Skyward Sword didn't provide with a whole lot of space at first, but it was possible to get more pouches to fill more space and I assume they will certainly have that in this game as well.
And dungeons have been confirmed which are assumed to be a lot longer than all of the shrines.
According to a rumour which said that there were over 100 shrines or mini dungeons and also dynamic weather, there will be 4 main large dungeons in the game.

@jariw Ok, so Dungeons are there but for the food feature and I said this already, but what's the point of it if you can't get more pouches to hold more food?
@Kazuo I know Nintendo will tweak it and do it better and I know that it'll fix all my concerns later. Its just the way that @skywake says it is that selling weapons is the only way to get money which irritated me a bit since that sounds like its going to be inconvenient and somehow worse than the usual.
Well...from the rumor perspective, it sounds like its something like Majora's Mask where there were only four dungeons but there's more to do than just beating the main game.
Several people have mentioned that they think this game takes place after Wind Waker, but I don't think that really works since it already has 2 sequels. Phantom Hourglass takes place on the sea still and I think Spirit Tracks is in a new land which became Hyrule. Plus after Wind Waker Ganondorf doesn't appear again and neither does the Master Sword ('cause it's stuck in his head ).
With the Koroks, it does seem like it may have a link to Wind Waker though and with all of the inspiration to Zelda NES and the mountains, it may have a link to that instead.
Since Hyrule is in ruins, my main guesses are that it is either before Wind Waker (before Hyrule is flooded) or perhaps after Zelda II (or somewhere around the NES Zelda games) due to the link with the first game. Plus I think it was in the trailer where Ganon is specifically stated and not Ganondorf so it may just be his beast form in here. I think it's possible this could be placed some time after Link was defeated in OoT, but since the Master Sword looked kind of old and like it had not been used for awhile I think it may take place around the NES games since the Master Sword didn't appear in them.
So, now that we've all geeked out, let me criticize the game for a bit.
There was voice acting in the trailer, but Old Man senior / junior didn't actually speak. What are they playing at? Either they are withholding the voice acted story reveal for later, which is bad because it will create another hill of fanboys to climb, or they're not voice acting NPCs, which is bad because in 2017 they'll be outcompeted by just about everyone. Even indie games have voice acting -_-
On a more physical level, the towers, shrines, and ruined guardians feel copy-pasted. There's too many of them for them to all have the same respective models. They should at least vary it up a little bit with the shrines.
I feel like those are very minor complaints, though I am a little biased for being anti-voice acting. They could have made the mistake every open-world game makes and given every little NPC and bokoblin a voice, each line being dull and thoughtless. If they minimize the dialogue to just the main story, it makes it way easier for them to have decent acting.
As for the reused models, I don't mind a little consistency. At least it's not like when I was playing Assassin's Creed IV, and I noticed on the map that all of the hundreds of small islands scattered around everywhere are the same two shapes.
According to a rumour which said that there were over 100 shrines or mini dungeons and also dynamic weather, there will be 4 main large dungeons in the game.
Over 100 shrines was confirmed on the Treehouse stream, but I believe 4 main dungeons is still a rumour though.
@jariw Ok, so Dungeons are there but for the food feature and I said this already, but what's the point of it if you can't get more pouches to hold more food?
How much food do you actually need? The default pouch is really large in terms of storing food. Have you seen anyone in the streams running out of space for food storage? Or are you just making wild guesses about how the game will work?
The limitation I've have seen occur on the streams has been regarding the amount of weapons that Link could carry.
So it's possible to literally disarm a Stalfos and use his boney arm as a weapon. You can even beat up the Stalfos with its own limbs; That's pretty awesome. I really like the Stalfos animations; you can see that the game still requires some work here and there, but most of the animations in general seem to be finished, they look pretty fluid at least.
So we're most likely waiting anywhere from 9 to 18 months for the game to come out. Which isn't a bad thing. It'll give them a lot of time to polish the game and make it look better than it does right now.
