@VoidofLight I mean I was speculating based on the little bit of the trailer I saw (which is why I said “looks like”) but the point I was making is that the gameplay should match the version of Zelda we are playing as. This Zelda, based on the trailer, doesn’t seem to be a warrior. The game will reveal “when” it is when it comes out but that wasn’t the point of my comment.

You know if you really think about it there are only two games where Zelda is actively using a sword. One of them was a spin-off and the other was Wand of Gamelon. Otherwise it's mostly just been arrows and magic.
"Now I have an obligation to tag along and clear the area if Luigi so much as glances at a stiletto."
We say this now, but Link has a weird new sword and bow that might end up being utilized somewhere later. Something that isn't just the master sword (which only the hero can wield).
"It is fate. Many have tried, yet none have ever managed to escape it's flow."
I'm with you, I thought a remake of Seasons/Ages in this style was the next move and would've been all in on it. Maybe it's still happening at some point, who knows. But even though I think it'd be neat I'm certainly not opposed to what they're doing here
Will take new 2D Zelda in whatever shape it comes in. And this one is certainly an interesting concept

I thought this might be an Oracle remake when it first showed up in the Direct, but I'm thrilled it's a new game instead. (I love the Oracle games, I just don't really care about remakes most of the time.) It's great that Zelda is finally the main character of her own series and the Echo mechanic looks very fun. Definitely my favourite announcement of an amazing Direct.
Thank you Nintendo for giving us Donkey Kong Jr Math on Switch Online
In the NL news comments section some people seem to be convinced this'll be a "lesser" Zelda game, as if they'd already played it. Maybe they though the Link's Awakening remake was a lesser game too, but for me it's the best Zelda game on Switch. (Yes, even better than BotW and TotK.) I adored the diorama-like visual style, the quirky characters and the unique little game world. So, since this one will be in the same mold, and it features Zelda as the main character, and it has whole new interesting gameplay mechanic, it could potentially become my favourite TLoZ game of them all. Let's just hope they've poured as much love and creativity into it as they did with Link's Awakening.
I think top-down 2D Zeldas in general tend to be pretty overlooked compared to the 3D ones, understandably so but it's still a shame. Link's Awakening, Minish Cap, and ALBW easily rank among my favorites in the series and I would happily hold them up alongside the 3D games. I love how tightly-paced and replayable the top-down games are, and they tend to have some of the best puzzle design in the series, so I hope Echoes Of Wisdom is able to keep up that momentum.
This games looks dope. I was hoping for Twilight Princess and Wind Waker HD, But I'll gladly take this. I love they're using the Link's Awakening remake look, I was a huge fan of that. I'm gonna be strapped for cash though so many good games coming up this fall season.
Apologies if this turns into a 'can't be unseen' for anyone, but I just feel compelled to share that whenever I hear reference to Zelda's 'Tri Rod', it just feels like a cross of 'Try Hard' and 'Nimrod'. I think I would have preferred it to have been a staff rather than a rod. I'm stoopid.
The expanding purple maw that ate up Link reminded of the dimensional rift wall that you have to out run in Return to Dreamland. Could this be the Kirby/Zelda crossover we’ve all been clamoring for?
Zelda also has a rapier in Twilight Princess, which is one of my favorite depictions of her character (though BotW/TotK and SS Zelda trump her IMO). The caveat is she's possessed when using it. Otherwise she is commonly depicted with a bow when armed.
I think I prefer the 3D Zeldas overall, but I really enjoy the 2D entries too. A Link Between Worlds, A Link to the Past, The Minish Cap and Link's Awakening (any version, though my favorite is still LA DX) are my top favorite 2D entries in that order.
@Circasurviver It's not an impossible scenario. Link's Awakening already has Anti-Kirby and some Mario crossover material too.
Edit: Sorry for anyone who saw the spoiler. I switch between here and Discord a lot, which uses different formatting for those tags lol.
@Circasurviver@Tyranexx I've always wanted a crazy interdimensional crossover Nintendo RPG game with Mario, Zelda, Kirby, Samus. I don't think it could be an action game though or Kirby would just eat the other characters 😆
As much as I would love to have the HD games, I am glad that we are getting this, starring Zelda! This game looks very fun and is completely unexpected. I'm hoping that this starts a new trend with future games where Zelda becomes a playable character. I'm particularly excited to experiment and see what crazy things you can do... PLUS it's another 2D Zelda with Links Awakening art style = win!
@FishyS The show predates me, but your idea sounds like a RPG version of Captain N: The Game Master that ran around 1990. Or at least what I've read about it. Seems like it was a mashup of Nintendo characters.
Currently playing: Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, Ys Seven (PC)
The trailer didn't blow me away, though I like that they try something new (with Zelda in the lead). Looks like they got a bit of inspiration from Botw and maybe even the Botw concept demo (Original Zelda with Botw mechanics). Looks like you can solve puzzles in many different ways. I wonder if there are still dungeons. Fighting enemies might not be as vast as fun as we are used to in topdown Zelda's, but more like puzzles themselves. Might be a slower experience overall, but it could be interesting.
