Is it just me or do they have to few echo fighters to even label them as such? I wouldn't be suprised if more will appear.

I'd also dare to say we get more Echos. They're basically clones and therefore require less dev time. Hmm.. the Octolings?

@Therad I think that was just to demonstrate the concept - I imagine there are a lot more on the way. Did we see the Koopalings? Alph?

@Buizel The Koopalings were shown alongside Junior. Doubt they'd become their own characters. Tho Alph could make use of Rock Pikmin instead of Purples.

Anyone else expecting the Healing Field item turn into an ARMS item? It functions the same as the healing item in that game. I'm still expecting to see an ARMS character before the game comes out and I wouldn't be surprised if the item gets updated then.

Honestly, this game is more than I could have ever asked for. Before the reveal I was pretty worried some of my favorite characters wouldn't make it back, but having literally EVERYONE return is pure Smash bliss for me. Over 60 characters and already over 70 confirmed stages is just amazing.

The art direction is also quite interesting. Everything seems to have a very slight cartoony and stylized look to it. I could tell right away this was not the Wii U version.

Something else I'm very pleased with is the animations. There are more expressions on the characters faces and more fluid frames of movement. Characters such as Wario, Donkey Kong, and Toon Link seem to benefit from this quite a bit.

Character appearance overhauls? Yes please! We already knew it was coming, but Link is looking great in the Champion's Tunic. I also love Zelda's new Link Between Worlds look, and Ganondorf going back to his Ocarina of Time style (with new sword-based Smash Attacks!) is a positive in my book. The Legend of Zelda has never had this much series representation through characters before.

What else could show up? Plenty of time left to announce more content, and I'm sure staples such as Classic Mode, Events, or Home-Run Contest will show their faces eventually.

@Snaplocket The more the merrier imo, no matter if clone, echo or new fighter. Personally, I was very pleased by Smash 4's DLC. The return of easy to import fan favorites and some really out there but nevertheless awesome choices. Sure, I'd rather have seen character x or y instead of a or b but I'd say there wasn't somebody in Smash that didn't make sense.

@Snaplocket Really? The main character of the one Final Fantasy that EVERYBODY think of when hearing FF doesn't make sense? Look, I'd rather have had a FF character from when the series still was with Nintendo but those games sadly aren't as popular as FF7.

@Snaplocket I do not like Cloud. I do not like FF7 as a whole. It just has aged so horribly that I could never get into it. I simply couldn't take it seriously.
Also mind you I am simply bringing logic into why he was chosen over so many other characters. I am neither supportive nor against his inclusion.
Also I refuse to touch the whole 'not another sword fighter' discussion because quite frankly, I do not care whatsoever.

All I am saying is Final Fantasy is basically THE rpg series everybody and their grandmas know. And Cloud, for whatever reason, I couldn't tell you myself, sorry, is the guy from the game everybody knows. And if Sakurai wants to include a Final Fantasy Rep, all signs point to Cloud... or Sephiroth.

Also one last bit. Do not come at me with the 'why is character x in when character y deserves the spot much more' argument. Because this is A. completely subjective and B. a giant waste of time because the character who's included is included. Easy as that. No reason to moan and cry about it.

As for Sora. Licensing conflicts with Disney, most likely. He'd be flippin awesome. Neko, The World ends with you over Final Fantasy, yeah right. Geno, I wouldn't say no but he's very obscure nowadays.

I never understood the whole sword argument. There are almost just as many characters that have some sort of gun and yet no one complains. And majority uses fists. Should we limit those as well?

The swords are mainly just for show, they don't really have that much of an impact on the moves themselves. Link could just as well have an axe in his hands when he uses his dash attack or basic combo or Lucina could use a spear for her dancing blade. It's mostly visual. I think people just don't like how similar Marth, Lucina and Roy are, and that it's partly because they all have a sword.

By a similar token, Street Fighter is THE 2d fighting game that is most easily recognizable (even if it's a bit less prominent nowadays), and Ryu is the guy everyone knows from that game, and is almost guaranteed to be the most played at least early on and regardless of effectiveness, because not only is he familiar, he's easy to pick up and learn the game around. If Mario is Mr. Video Game, Ryu is Mr. Fighting Game.

The only reason people "don't ask for" characters like him or Cloud is that they assume they have no chance due to being third party. Assuming one isn't also projecting their own personal feelings on the masses.

@GoldenGamer88 yeah Neko would have been better due to the remake coming and Sora is owned by square not square makes the game and sora and the non-disney final fantasy looking charcters disney ownes all there properties.Rex and prya would be really great too.they could put the ones from 15 in instead of 7 and snake why not frogger or other classic charcters.Also rayman is missing along with pokemon gen 7 rep that is a grass/ghost type that is a starter instead of pikcu that hurts itself this is melee and brawl remix and pokemon trainer should have gen 7 with inceraroar/rowlet/and the blue seal thing. and no zerora or marshadow or alm and clicila.

@andrew20 Yeah the remake that was already announced and about to come out when Cloud was released for Smash 4. Some few years ago? That one?
Also I no longer have any idea who owns what now.

Snake was included because Kojima was friends with Sakurai.

As for the others, these are literal 'What if' scenarios. I refuse to invest energy and time into those.

@andrew20 Cloud was released for Smash 4 in December 2015. Almost three years before the The World ends with you remake releases. What exactly is your point here? I don't get it.

Did they announce if there would be different online modes; ie 10 stock or something vs 2 mins, no items/items, more than 4 players, etc. I was very disappointed with the lack of this when I bought whatever version for the wiiu in the past. Rarely would all 4 ppl stay for constant rematches which of course made the game 100x better when ppl did.

@Snaplocket Do you mean at the moment, or when he was first revealed? If it's the former it's mainly due to him being old news by now, of course people are going to be more excited for Ridley because he's brand new, fan demand or no. If it's the latter, leaks took some of the wind out his reveal sails, but plenty of people were still happy to see him. Street Fighter players probably don't play Smash seriously, but I've heard tales over at Eventhubs of some of them wanting to try Smash 4 just to play as Ryu.

We have plenty of far more obscure characters that few would suggest seriously, regardless of them being first-party: Wii Fit Trainer, Mr. Game & Watch, Ice Climbers, R.O.B... and nobody in the West knew what a Marth or Fire Emblem was when they came in Melee.There just isn't any good reasons not to include characters at this stage beyond technical or legal issues, or not being game characters to begin with.
