Giant stages appeal to players who are not so much interested in winning as they are of not dying. Those being very young and/or inexperienced players who get a lot of play time even if they get knocked around a lot. Or maybe it's just the pinball action of ridiculously damaged opponents bouncing around. Temple in particular is well known for being friendly towards... "experiments", shall we say, whether testing boundaries with the Black Hole glitch in Melee or any made-up mode or alternative entertainment.
tl;dr Temple is beloved precisely because of how it promotes non-typical Smash behaviour. Other giant stages haven't really caught the same appeal due to gimmicks (Great Cave Offensive) or too much empty space.
That said, Temples both Hylian and Palutena do have some areas (usually upper ones) that aren't so bad for standard fighting, with some minor adjustments and the trimming of lower hidey-holes.
I’m just here to say that with a new Smash Bros, on the way, my hopes for some Professor Layton representation have been rekindled. It has to happen at some point, right?
If I could stick any character on the Sm4sh roster... Papyrus would be my choice, but Professor Layton would be a close second. I also think he has a genuine chance this time around.
Layton's Mystery Journey didn't go over so well, but the other Professor Layton titles received significant critical acclaim and appear to have done well enough for themselves on the int'l market. I think it's also notable that this isn't one of those series that went ages between entries (i.e. Chibi-Robo or Starfy); Professor Layton had four games apiece on the DS and 3DS, a formidable number by any measure.
If Nintendo decides to include a little more handheld representation this time around, I think Professor Layton and Golden Sun are the two most notable series without any representatives. I hope they both get their day in the sun this time.
@19Robb92 I can definitely imagine their moveset. We have an idea with snake from brawl. Inkmine Get a buried like snake did his. They could make the stingray/killer wail their final smash or pull a gigabowser and transform the inkling into the kracken. Blaster as fsmash. Dsmash could be their Roller. Up smash could be the duelies. Speculation is fun 😁

Stupid thoght here but, what if they used not their own engine this time around? Unreal Engine 4 maybe? I have no idea how Engines work, so yeah... Would that even work? The style would be pretty interesting. I came up with this idea because I remembered the new Yoshi runs on it. If they use it for Yoshi, what next? ^^"
@IceClimbers Any sub weapon from Splatoon could work as items, or even the Rainmaker complete with shield that asplodes whoever doesn't break it.
From ARMS we could get stuff like the HP juice healing everyone in it's range or the stun bombs that must be hit towards opponents. For extra irony, have Barq as an item or assist trophy like he was originally intended.
Some folks at the Xenoblade reddit also suggested the idea of core crystals summoning a temporary Blade ally.
Apologies if this has already been mentioned, but I've just been listening to the latest IGN Nintendo Voice Chat (reacting to the Direct) and apparently rumours are abound that Solaire of Astora from Dark Souls could make an appearance in Smash (?) ..it's getting its own amiibo (below) - so it's easy to put 2 and 2 together (and perhaps get 5!) - but maybe there is something to it?
Never played a Souls game - but could be a cool and welcome third-party addition to the Smash roster!
@NaviAndMii If every Amibo made it into Smash, then we would have had a Wool Yoshi, Shovel Knight, Chibi Robo, the Inklings, and Toad in Smash 4. Not impossible, but just because an Amibo is made, doesn't point to it being in Smash. It would be cool if he did make it in, but I doubt the Amibo means anything.
Just a geek that likes video games, and spends to much time playing Smash Bros. and Fortnite.

@TheTetrisGuy Yeah, it does seem like a bit of a stretch...could be cool though - and perhaps mutually beneficial - but I won't be putting any money on it quite yet!
