Maybe the Salmon Run items are very over powered and that the time limits will mean that people won't get stock up on over powered weapons from the get go. That aside, boycotting the game because of something so minor won't send a big message.
If ranks were separate in the first Splatoon, my ranks would've likely been around:
Splat Zones: B
Rainmaker: S
Tower Control: A
I generally did very well in Rainmaker due to some tactics I developed. Like if the Rainmaker is too close to your base, jump off the map to reset its position back at the centre.
Nintendo can make any number of stupid mistakes with Spla2n and I would still buy it Day 1 because it's Splatoon on the Switch and that just warms my heart. The game actually releases a day before I leave for vacation, so I think I'll have a good amount of single-player time.
@Grumblevolcano I loved playing Rainmaker and was actually pretty good at it, but I don't know how I was good at it. I just improvised my way through it without a plan.
There's a thread on Neogaf with some screenshots from S1 and S2 comparing the two. It actually is pretty cool. I'm not sure if there is any catches but here ya go: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1402240
Edit: Just to clairfy, take these with a grain of salt. These type of things usually come with a catch or twist.
Looks a teensy bit better I guess? The original was already gorgeous and smooth as butter, so the fact that they were able to improve upon it at all is amazing!
It's interesting how the launch stars in Mario Galaxy inspired the super jumps in Splatoon, and in turn the ink swimming in Splatoon contributed to the 2D to 3D transitions in Odyssey.
After finally seeing what an Octoling's eyes look like... the resemblance to Inkling's is uncanny. Hardly any trace of the usual yellow and purple found on most Octarians.
Watched a Japanese trailer today that got me a little hyped. Wife already pre-order so we will see what the finished product is. The first one couldn't keep me engaged
I mean it's not great that the final Splatfest two years from now is already all but decided. Anyway, please let one of these four be the inevitable Smash character. Just a generic inkling like Animal Crossing got would be so boring.
After seeing the direct and playing what's in the demo I can say I'm very hyped for this game. I feel like this sequel is more solid in it's presentation and identification, and by that I feel like the developers now really know "what they want their game to be". The tutorial area was already full of style with it's industrial/urban look and I'm loving how much better the menus, UI and other minor details look as it seems like they're really tried to fix many complaints (such as Sheldon talking too much) as well as give them a bit more flair. Also love Pearl and Marina (but mostly Marina lol) and I'm excited to see more lore and how Marina being an Octoling fits into this. I'm still iffy about Salmon Run having limited set times as well as the voice chat thing but I'm willing to take the wait and see approach before losing my mind. I would say this title would be a launch day pick up for me but unfortunately I currently have crappy internet (damm you Aussie internet!!!)and won't be getting decent internet till hopefully August. But this is a title which I know I will definitely pick up!
@Haru17 Sadly I don't reckon we'll get either the squid sisters or Off the Hook as playable characters. I think it's pretty much certain a default male/female inkling with different hair styles/clothes is gonna be the next smash contender. Maybe we'll at least get them as assist trophies tho.

No split screen co-op mode is something that bothers me deeply. The Switch is supposed to be a social machine where multiplayer can be played anywhere, anytime and with anyone. But if Nintendo is expecting every single person to bring his/her own Switch with a copy of the game, that's not very realistic.
For starters, common family households will almost surely have just one Switch. So that's leaving A LOT of people in the cold.
In my case I was very excited about the possibility of playing multiplayer with my kids but Nintendo just threw a bucket of iced water over my head. Suddenly I'm not that hyped about the game anymore... I'll still buy it, but they took half the fun away.
(I'll be going back to Spain for vacation when the game releases so, that means that I'll have to wait until I get back to Japan to buy it... oh, well)
