@Spoony_Tech That's one of the things I disliked about the first game. I didn't like Rainmaker and Tower Control. Splat Zones was by far my favourite mode, so having to wait and check when it was playable again got a bit tiresome in the end. It's not as if Splatoon is going to be a niche game with a small install base. There will be plenty of people to support all modes at any given time. Especially as long as they're still supporting the game with new content. So I really don't understand why they do this. Force people to try a different mode? I don't know, I always quit playing after anything other than Splat Zones popped up.
@Octane Small install base was what I thought the idea behind the first game's decision was but clearly not the case otherwise it wouldn't have appeared in Splatoon 2.
@Grumblevolcano Still kind of is with Switch stock issues. Not as small of an install base as Wii U, of course, hence shorter rotations for Turf and Ranked.
But I feel the real rationale is that if you want a specific mode to play all the time, you gotta set it up yourself and like-minded people. That's how all the serious players play anyway.
I don't think they'd have the game now rank you separately in each mode if they didn't feel you'd a good chance of playing all of them at some point.
sigh it's a real bummer because Salmon Run is the one thing that pushed me to pre ordering, since the competitive nature of the first game sort of stressed me out. I was imagining being able to play Salmon Run whenever I got tired of the turf war/ranked games, and now I might not ever be able to play it aside from weekends depending on the time frame.
Just... a real bummer, and very annoying move by Nintendo, because for every cool thing they do they always make sure to pull me back from the hype.
@meleebrawler But we've seen the procedure in Splatoon 1, there's no reason to think I'll suddenly be okay with it the second time around. It's just this time there's a mode I actually specifically really care about, so I'm more annoyed by it this time around.
Take it no one here caught the context that Salmon Run is a paying job and no one works 24/7 then?
I guess Zelda should also close down after so many hours. Link has to sleep after all. At least for eight hours, since he's been busy all day. Mandatory toilet breaks should also be included in every game from now on.
But this is Nintendo. No logic. Stages rotate worst thing ever.
Haha yeah! I'm glad you agree it's really really stupid! Not like they can just make it so that it isn't OP... but no, everything they do is perfect and right and amazing.
That context as an excuse is the most pure bologna I've heard in a loooong while

Pretty much goes for every game out there.

Keep it PG-13-ish.
I would like to see their thought process and in what way they think it benefits the consumer. Like I absolutely love love Splatoon. I've spent hours keeping up with the game from the beginning to the end and seen everything about it, but the game honestly employs some of the worst systems.
I'm curious to see how Salmon Run will pan out as well. On the surface, it simply looks like a limitation, and is therefore hard to see in any positive light. But if I hated all time-limited features on principle, I would have equally hated the Splatfests, and they turned into one of the funnest aspects of the original because they were such an occasion.
I imagine they're similarly trying to make Salmon Run feel like an 'event' or sorts, rather than just another mode. I'm hazy on the details, but it also seems like the rewards might change across sessions, giving each playthrough a certain significance in time.
I'm unfortunately boycotting this game on account having a lot of work I should really be doing instead. As a huge fan of the original (it was the reason I bought a Wii U), it's pretty gutting. Gonna be a late August game for me, unfortunately. : (
Something I think isn't getting enough attention is that Squidverse is back. It was one of the derpiest and most charming features of the original. Long live poor drawings of Inklings and dead Spongebob memes.
@Maxz It's only boycotting if you're doing it to send a message. No need to feel bad, just do what you gotta do and make that playtime all the sweeter.
Alone, a force. Together, a force of nature.

@meleebrawler Haha, yeah. It felt more edgy to say 'boycotting' than simply 'not buying'. And in a way, I suppose I'm boycotting myself to send a message: "Do your bloody work, man! The squids can wait!"
Besides you all missed my supposed actual reason in there. Start with the annoying optimism, end with the annoying negativity. In the middle: the rewards may be OP.
But hey, screw me for trying to apply some logic hey? Oh. Thanks for the mockery btw. Remember quotes dont tell someone ya replied
