@rallydefault I think I would've liked it a lot more if everything was in that style. Including the battles. Go wild! This seems a little inconsistent. Like ''don't spend too much on the overworld, and just copy the battle stuff from SWSH'' inconsistent. If everything had the same style, it would've been a bold move, but then I'd probably like it more.

The original games were the same way though, chibi sprites in the overworld with full body detailed sprites in battle. I don't mind the contrast between the two, personally.

@Cynas Well, yeah, even Red and Blue had them, but that was more a limitation of the hardware than a stylistic choice.

@Octane I get that, but the main goal for this remake seems to be to faithfully remake the style of the original game, and I feel like the contrast in styles between the overworld and battles was necessary to get the same feel.

@Cynas Actually Remake is to make the game anew not copy it with new graphics. Remaster is what you are looking for.

For example Resident Evil 2 REMAKE is the best example I could get. A game made from the ground up with amazing visuals and new engine + innovation compared to its old version.

Remaster is just a touch of modern style graphics and that is it.

@Octane i mean, it looks very meh, but the trainers looks super skinny when they throw the pokeballs. I would have preferred something closer to the original

If you spoil a game i will find you.

@Zuljaras I used the term "remake" because that's the term they used in the presentation. They specifically said that these games are "faithful remakes", and it's clear they're trying to replicate the same style of the originals, both in and out of battle. If you feel they should have used the term "remaster", then take it up with them.

So no Let's Go style and no weird Gigantamaxing or stuff like that? Consider me excited 😉 I'm still waiting for my first console experience since I couldn't get enthusiastic about the previous Switch installments. I'm curious to hear more about this one!

The biggest disappointment of DP was that all the evolutions of old Pokemon weren't available in the main game. Platinum fixed that, so I wonder how much of that is present in this game. I guess not, since it's a 'faithful remake'.

I do hope they'll try to improve upon the originals, at the very least taking notes from Platinum alone.

@Cynas I guess I must. At least they will learn something

Even if I do not like the presentation I will buy those games because they are Pokemon. Yes I am part of the problem.

@Octane @Eel I'm curious about that too. Also, I wonder whether we cab expect any of the post DP qol enhancements in this remake.

It's entirely possible. If they want to do Gen 4 justice, they'll have to expand the pokedex to feature all the pokemon that were introduced there, instead of going with the original Sinnoh Dex.

I'm also curious about what they'll do for the Poketch.

If there aren't any significant gameplay updates or new content I'll most likely be skipping this. I'm fortunate to have bought Platinum for a cheap price a while ago and I don't need to pay $60 for the same game with a downgraded art style (in my opinion).

I guess they might make Giratina into a bigger post-game thing, a la (Mega) Rayquaza in ORAS. Platinum introduced it's Origin Form, but also made it the first of it's trio that you caught (while letting you catch both Dialga and Palkia in post-game). Since the latter isn't going to happen (probably), they'll need to address that.

And then you have the events on the post-game area itself. Including... the Battle Frontier.

I wonder what the Pal Park will become? Seeing as how we have Home for transfer purposes, we don't really need it any more.

I won't expect a frontier. Simply because I don't want to be disappointed. Who knows though, being a new developer, they could try to add it as fanservice for the older fans. (Since Gamefreak's reasoning for discontinuing the frontiers was "kids don't really like them").

The Pal Park... Perhaps it could be tied to Pokemon Home or Go as an extra option to play with the transferred pokemon. If they don't transform it into something completely different.

@FroZtedFlakerZz
Yup. These games are end of 2021, and the other one is 2022 and people have already weighed and measured every ounce of them. I don't know what world I live in anymore lol

But I will say this: If I could get a dollar just today for every tweet/post/message from people bleating some variation of, "The chibi art style looks like a baby/mobile/preschool game" when they have never used the word "chibi" in their life and most likely have no idea what it even means.... well, I'd put a few thousand bucks in the bank, I think.

@Octane
Others have said it, but isn't that kind of how the originals were too, though? The battle graphics were different from the overworld graphics. The same thing has happened in other franchises, too. Harvest Moon comes to mind. The overworld style is maybe more rounded but the character portraits are in a different hand-drawn style. Some Fire Emblem games were the same way. It doesn't change your preference if you like it or not, I'm just saying it's not something that's shaking the foundations of my world.

I think it's possible we'll see content from Platinum in these games, and possibly some QoL improvements as well. Who knows, maybe we'll even get some new post-game content. Maybe they mostly just wanted to remain faithful visually.

.....Looks better than Legends, to me anyways. Remakes are a huge maybe from me....not liking the chibi stuff. I'll likely just stick with MH Stories 2.
