Funny How everybody said Mercury steam ruined Castlevania but they seem mostly okay with them handling Metroid. Samus returns was pretty good on 3DS. I may have to give that another replay now.

Oh and to all the Other M haters. I liked that one too so Bite me!

I was expecting and hoping for a 2D Metroid the most this E3, so that in and of itself was a treat, but for it to be Metroid Dread? That just killed me. This game singlehandedly saved E3 for me and it looks fantastic. Can't wait.

@Shadowthrone Adam is in this game actually, serving the same role he did in Fusion. During Treehouse, they passed through some Communication Rooms where you talk with him, but they obscured the cutscenes presumably due to spoilers.

I said a few weeks ago that I would prefer a new 2D Metroid game to Metroid Prime 4 (even though I love the Prime trilogy).

Just watching the treehouse presentation now and this game looks mega. My most anticipated title for sure.

Maaaan, I wanted the amiibo and the collector's edition but they're already sold out everywhere, despite me watching all the retailers all day. So stupid how literally impossible for a non-bot it is to buy things these days.

Oh man. This was it for me. Absolute stole the show(aside from more botw2 gameplay lol).

@link3710 You could try ordering the amiibo from Amazon Japan. I don't think they've gone up yet, but I find amiibo are typically much easier to order from there. The shipping can be pretty expensive though so I always just use it as a last resort.

Still waiting for the amiibo to go up for pre-order in Canada, but I know if I'm not constant stalking my phone I'll miss out. The collectors sold out within 20 minutes at both Best Buy and Amazon.ca, and apparently Best Buy Canada only had about 500 in stock for pre-orders.

This is a must have, I'm excited. I will say I have an up and down experience with Samus Returns, loved it during my first 100% run, second run wasn't feeling it too much and current run getting back to enjoying the game again. Seeing the Melee Counter making a return would be a concern, MSR's biggest issue may be how monotonous most of its enemy encounters are due to that mechanic, if not for the E.M.M.I chases and stealth moments that I believe will prevent some of the issues I have with Metroid: Samus Returns. Dread seems like it'll be a more varied adventure.

I did want to go ahead and preorder the special edition, but it looks all sold out online. I'll try Gamestop in store nearby after work tomorrow to see if I have any luck. I rarely get special editions or make a preorder, last one being for Metroid Prime Trilogy's Wii release, so I'm very happy with what I got out of the Metroid Dread trailer. I'll be watching both parts of the Treehouse coverage a little later. Fall 2021 is going to be a great time for the Nintendo Switch.

That lady during the treehouse thing needs to get her facts straight. She said it's the first 2-D Metroid in nearly 20 years. Uh Metroid zero mission, Other M which was mostly 2-D and Samus returns were all more recent than that.

Anyway good to see most people are happy about this reveal. I remember the name Metroid Dread from years ago but i thought it was just a fan game or something. Never knew it was an actual cancelled Metroid game that is finally getting released. I hope there's a portion of the game where you go suitless again like in Zero mission.

@Zeldafan79 Metroid: Other M is certainly not a bad game. It's one of those games that got overshadowed by popular opinion, and in this case a negative one. My only major issue was the lack of control options. Other than that; it was atmospheric, dark, and pretty varied with some really great secret stuff.

Yeah, Other M got slammed for its story and cutscenes, in particular the depiction of a needy and emotional Samus who is very much at odds with the stoic, self-reliant protagonist of the previous games. That might be mostly head canon - as there's very little insight into her character at all - but it's still rather jarring.

Major criticisms about the actual gameplay tend to be pretty thin on the ground in comparison. It might not cop a lot of praise for them either, but it's never seemed to me like it's a game people hated playing.

@Matt_Barber

One strange thing is that the same guy who had alot to do with super metroids development and was there from the very beginning of the series also worked on Other m yet so many seemed to hate it. Wouldn't he know best what her character should be like?

It feels like everybody had their own ideas of what they wanted and how samus should be portrayed and what was done didn't agree with them. I honestly never saw any overly negative reviews of the game by any of the well known review sites. Just fans that think samus is supposed to be an emotionless alien killing She Rambo or something.

Oh well anyway not to get off topic but that game is very underrated IMO.

@TheFrenchiestFry Yeah, I'm really surprised that it ended up happening. Especially after this long. Totally looking forward to playing it!

In anticipation of dread, I decided to go back and finally beat Samus returns. I got a decent way through the game a couple years ago and stopped for whatever reason. And I'm already picking up steam again 😊. This'll be a nice warm up.

So excited for this. It's been too long. Little surprised at the growing negative reaction since the reveal. Lots of comments on how lifeless and stiff it looks or complaints about Samus Returns. I really do not see it, at all. Looks fantastic. Even if you didn't enjoy what SR did, they have clearly listened to the criticism and are working on polishing it.

The game looks amazing. Samus returns was fun but VERY ugly (those nasty colors), but I was always thinking: They could make a much better looking sidescrolling Metroid on Switch. Well, this looks amazing. Lovely colors, lightning, etc. The movement looks delightfully fast. The Morpball seems to take a backseat this time though. Its still there, but now there's also wall-climbing and sliding. I hope the game has great bosses. Remember that one original boss from Returns: Diggernaut. That's one of the best bosses in the series. And that end-fight with Ridley: I didn't need it, but in the end it became one of the most intense Ridley fights.

My only concern is the difficulty. The Treehouse segment had only a few, very easy enemies. Some enemies can immediately be dispatched with the counter-move. But it was of course a very early segment. Also, those robots don't hunt you through the whole planet. Instead, they patrol some special areas. But maybe later in the game they can break into the normal areas too. Who knows.

@StuTwo

lol. But it might also mean no Metroids in Prime 4. Ah, we just wait and see...
