Also fun to see that mister Sakamoto is still involved with the series. He looks like a old rockstar, lol.

@Henmii I agree with you fully. For some reason there are people that think it looks bad???

They might need their eyes checked.

And the game looks like it is 60fps too

Super pumped for this. I thought Samus Returns on the 3DS was one of the best in the series, so this should be quite good, as a kind of sequel (in terms of gameplay mechanics, not story).

My only negative from seeing this trailer and the gameplay demos is that the environments don't look anywhere near as good as back in the Super Metroid days.

I see Nintendo now has the standard version & collectors edition up for pre-order in the UK ..........

Is this the first time you've been able to slide through gaps in a Metroid game?

Amiibo just went up for pre-order at Amazon Japan and they ship internationally. Might be a good idea to grab a pre-order then cancel if you manage to get in a pre-order locally.

Edit: Out of stock. Lasted about 2 and a half hours.

This is now my most anticipated game this year. I enjoyed my time with samus returns (and for everyone complaining about the meelee counter the fact you now can do it while running is a big change). Not the biggest fan of the whole run from big boy thing as I also did not like it that much in Fusion but what the hell this is a New 2d freakin Metroid Baby!!!

I agree, the counter mechanic in Dread looks so much more fluid than in Samus Returns.

@Dezzy Agreed on the graphics. I'm not really a fan of the whole 2D with a 3D style which is why I never bothered playing any of the mario platformers from the 3ds-wii u as I think they all look super tacky. Still might cop for gameplay.

I'm not sure I like the EMMIs or not. I get what they're going for, but similar sections in fusion and zero mission made more sense to me. In zero mission Samus loses her powersuit and has to avoid combat to survive. In fusion she has to survive against a fully upgraded version of herself (particularly cool). Here there are just robots that are tougher than Samus because... the writers say so? I dunno. Feels kind of cheap.

This. There's no context. There's a live Chozo in a Power Suit using a control panel in the trailer. Whether that's a flashback or the first time a Chozo is seen alive in the current time remains to be seen, but I think it's fairly safe to assume the EMMIs are of Chozo origin, which easily explains how they can overpower and be tougher than Samus. They could be direct creations of the Chozo or a Federation or Space Pirate attempt at fusing Chozo technology with their own (I'm leaning toward the Federation scenario, personally. They look a little too slick to be purely Chozo and they don't match Pirate aesthetics).

No context, that's fair. But I never saw anything about a living Chozo, what trailer was that in?

E.M.M.I. is a research robot owned by the Galactic Federation, and being at the chronological end of the series, I would think the E.M.M.I. would be even more brutal against Samus but Metroid Dread as a game needs to actually be playable and approachable. Sylux's power suit, the PED, Project Golem, MB, Bottle Ship bioweapons, Fusion Suit and downloadable upgrades, and now we're at E.M.M.I., the Galactic Federation has been more than capable of developing technology that could be a lethal threat to Samus for a while in the series, almost to its beginning, so what the E.M.M.I. is capable of isn't too surprising knowing what technology the Federation has developed before. Again, if anything, the E.M.M.I. should be even more dangerous than has been depicted. The question hopefully Dread's lore will answer is whether or not the Galactic Federation's arsenal advancements have been aided by the knowledge of the Chozo for the entire series, specifically the Chozo depicted at the end of Metroid: Samus Returns that turned on their own race on SR388.

I will say even though I'm in all likelihood going to love this game (I liked Samus Returns a lot, and its worst elements were because of needing to stick to still being Metroid 2, which this game doesn't have to worry about), if I'm being honest, its not my favorite looking game in the world. Based on what we've seen, I'm not the biggest fan of the art direction. I don't think its bad, but I kinda hope I appreciate more for the full game. Might just be the setting which seems closer to almost like Aperture Science than any past Metroid environments.

@kkslider5552000 I do think it's important to keep in mind that most Metroid games with decent graphics (Notably Prime, Prime 2, Super) have a very bland looking opening area. Crateria, Chozo Ruins, Temple Grounds, and even Norion from Prime 3 and Sector 1 from Fusion to a degree are among the least interesting visual locations in their respective titles.

Thinking about it, I am wondering if it's on purpose, cause the moment you enter Brinstar in Super it's a fantastic change.

I don’t know what y’all are talking about. Game looks fine to me. More than fine, actually. It’s gorgeous… exactly how I imagined a new 2D Metroid on Switch would. Love the light shining through the fan blades and the smoke wafting around, the colors and crisp environments. Ya, it’s a great looking game.

Got the collector edition and amiibo secured yesterday. They sold out mega quick. Got me all hyped now, so I started playing Samus Returns again on 3DS. Which, btw, is so much fun I’m struggling to recall why I ever stopped playing in the first place. I think I got stuck, but then I got past that part I was stuck on later, but for some reason in my mind I thought I was still stuck and that deterred me from going back. Anyways, I made tons of progress today so, all good.

Man I love Metroid so much!

None of that is about the style, which is what I was talking about.

New Super Mario Bros U and Megaman 11 are also good looking games, but their actual art styles do nothing for me other than making games vastly older and less advanced look way more appealing to me. Which I should've mentioned because I also wanted to say its at least better than THOSE attempts. Particularly how animated the robots and Samus seem to be. It's also more appealing than Shadow Complex, which is what I think of when I think of HD era 3d graphics 2d Metroidvania. But that game's look is in a lot of ways, the most obvious Xbox 360 era look possible.

Basically, I wrote that knowing its a nitpick, and I'm more than willing to be proven wrong on it.
