Ya it’s hard to know if it’s legit or not. At first I had written it off. But iirc, I believe something else leaked afterward that kind of lent credence to it. Can’t remember what it was, exactly. But I remember thinking oh crap, maybe the leak actually is true! But I haven’t paid much attention since then, so if it’s been disproven then it probably is fake.

Anyways, Immortals really is surprisingly good. I actually wasn’t even planning on buying it after seeing the leaked stadia demo footage, because it just didn’t look that good. But I am so glad to be proven wrong on that. And what’s most impressive is it actually looks really good in handheld mode, it’s not super downgraded in resolution or anything, it has gyro aiming in the Switch version, and, cross platform saves with every other version. Which... wow. If only more games would do that.

@JaxonH Glad to hear it looks good in handheld mode, as even though I have a regular switch, that’s exclusively the mode I use.

Can I ask what the micro transactions are for? Not only is it a $60 game with a $40 season pass, but seeing on the eShop it had whatever “credits” are disappointed me. What do the “credits” do in game and can they (or the items they unlock) be earned through normal gameplay?

horizonisland

alpacatears

@horizonisland From what I've seen so far when playing it, the microtransactions are just for skins. There's also an in game currency from doing quests that you can spend on Skins too.
Hermes sells a selection of them daily.

I think the microtransactions moreso let you browse the full collection of cosmetics whereas you only see a small selection daily with the money earned in game. I think you'd be paying purely for ease of access rather than actually being locked out of certain items

@horizonisland
Ya, like alpacatears said it's all cosmetics. And you'll have plenty in game so, can basically just ignore that.

The season pass expansions arent out yet. But I dont see this as a negative. Most games worth their salt nowadays get expansions post-release. I bought it because I really like the game, but since the DLC wont be releasing until well into 2021, you can essentially ignore that for now too. I'm sure itll be pretty good, but it never hurts to hold off on the season pass just to be sure.

@alpacatears Thanks for letting me know! It makes me more confident in eventually buying the game!

@JaxonH Thank you as well. I’ll probably not buy the Gold Edition, once I make sure there’s no exclusive content that you can only get if you purchase it bundled together.

Is nobody else playing this incredible game?!!

I’m absolutely blown away with how good this game is. Blown away. I wouldn’t go quite so far as to say it’s as good as Zelda breath of the wild, but it’s close. And considering that, you know, arguably the greatest video game ever made, that speaks volumes about how good this game is.

I can’t believe how little attention this game is getting given how insanely good it is! It’s like if Zelda breath of the wild 2 released and... nobody cared. Everyone’s like, “ehh”. I totally understand waiting for a price drop because the price will certainly drop, and I totally understand waiting for a patch because there are some genuine stability issues. Having said that whether you buy the game now or a year from now, full price or in the bargain bin, where do you stream it or rent it or borrow it from a friend, just make sure you play this game. You absolutely have to play this game.

The more abilities I unlock the more I’m amazed at how insanely good this game is. The Gyro aiming and HD rumble is fire. Does everything Zelda did and more, and better. At least with respect to HD rumble. You can feel the slight vibrations with every reach of the hand and foot when you’re climbing. You can control your arrows with Gyro and Apollo‘s arrows where you view it as it flies from behind the arrow, and even that can be controlled with Gyro...

The puzzles are actually much better than I expected. They’re not quite on the level of Zelda BotW which had expertly crafted shrine puzzles and environmental Korok seed puzzles, but they’re still really good. And fun (which is what counts). The mechanics of this game are just so finally tuned that it’s fun to simply run around and climb stuff and use your abilities and shoot Apollo’s arrows and combo enemies... It has that same Zelda formula of exploration, combat, discovery, choosing your own path and tackling objectives in any order, but it also has a clear progression system with Assassins Creed style abilities, weapons and gear. Which is a definite step up from breath of the wild. So in some respects it’s actually better, even if it can’t quite match it in totality.

If you’re a lurker playing this game who never really posts, I invite you to come join the conversation. I really want to talk to others playing this game and see if they’re as impressed as I am, and there’s... nobody else.

Just got this game at W*lmart for $50. Not only that, but every game at my local Walmart was $10 cheaper than the MSRP, including All Stars and Age of Calamity. I’m excited to try this out!

@JaxonH I actually picked up the game today and my roommate has not put it down yet. She hardly plays video games so if she is this hooked on it, it has to be a good game.

@JaxonH agreed. I’m having a blast playing the game. Much better than expected. Graphics aren’t the greatest, but I don’t even notice unless I’m concentrating on them (which I’m usually not). The views are pretty amazing tho. Lots of customization in menus, HUD, etc is really nice to have. The game is very fluid so far (10 hours in). No crashes. A couple bugs here and there (some head shots with Apollo’s arrow don’t register if the bad guy is mid animation for head raise). All in all so much fun!

Edit: metacritic user reviews are doing really well for switch, too.

Done Aphrodite & Ares, along with all the vaults, etc, in their respective areas .... I'm glad the puzzles aren't too tricky, since I'm not that clever at working them out Glad to hear the Switch version is good, since I'm playing on PC & was wondering how well it'd perform

Glad to hear you love this game, but why are the Critics Scores so low then?

BruceCM

Which critics scores? If they don't explain what they don't like or whatever, how are we supposed to know, though?

@BruceCM it's been in the high 70s/low 80s and as we all know any game that is less than 9/10 is rubbish ;p They are largely complaining about the in game rewards not being great and it's not adding much to the genre/formula which prevents it getting higher scores.

Ah, I see, @jump .... I haven't really looked at reviews! IGN seemed to like it before it came out & I saw more than enough of the game to know I wanted to play it

I only watched one review- the Switch Up review on Youtube.

But I dont really pay attention to the aggregates anymore. I mean, I'll note them because like it or not, they impact our world, but I dont take them into account for my decisions. And that goes doubly for user reviews on MC. I value feedback from other members here far more than the establishment gaming media or random 10s and 0s from strangers on MC.

So I don't really have any narratives shaping my perspective of the game, besides my own personal experience with it.

@Pirate1 @BruceCM
Graphics are good on Switch. Not spectacular, but good. Obviously they wont compare to PC or power consoles, but I'm impressed with how similar the Switch version looks to all the others. Especially handheld mode. It's a miracle they got this game looking as good as it does in handheld, without super blurry res, and with a mostly smooth framerate. I really wish the game had released on Steam so I could also buy it there, map gyro to the bow and landmarking like Switch, and then use the cross platform saves to bounce back and forth with the Switch in handheld/tabletop. But it seems Epic Store got exclusivity.

@Tasuki
That's always a good metric.

Well, it's in Ubi's own store/launcher as well, @JaxonH .... Which you'd need for any of their games on Steam, anyway! Same for the EA games that they've been bringing to Steam, you still need their launcher to play them
I don't have EGS & I never will get that, which is why I'm still waiting for Godfall & other games like it. If any of those stay exclusive to Epic, I just won't get them

@BruceCM
Ya, they always release on their own store. My issue with that is not the launcher, but the fact there won't be any community Steam controller configs for a manually added game. When the game is sold via Steam, theres plenty of community controller configs mapping gyro.

Which, often it's as simple as taking 5 seconds to map mouse input to gyro myself, done and done, but about 50% of games released on PC nowadays aren't programmed to allow mouse input and controller input simultaneously, which means mapping gyro is a much more complex task, as you must map all other inputs as keyboard so it's purely KB/M detected and no controller inputs. And doing that manually sucks. Steam controller is an easy solution since it auto detects as KB/M for every input, but not all games are ideal with the SC. For FPS? Absolutely. A game like this? Not so much (though it can work). And I hate having to spend an hour creating my own configs from scratch when the game wont allow mouse and controller inputs together.

That's why I like to buy on Steam.

Oh, OK, I don't worry about gyro but fair enough, @JaxonH ..... I don't play FPS stuff & 3rd person shooters work pretty well for me

It seems like the game is catching flak for not being innovative.... I decided to take the plunge. Should get my copy this week from Amazon.
