@FaeKnight I do not care for the after patches. I care for the whole collection to be on the cart itself. Diablo III + Reaper of Souls + Necromancer pack ALL on the damn cart. I am setting myself up for a disappointment.

@Zuljaras Expect a download, if that doesn't happen, be happy.

I'm wondering if Blizzard will support this version with all that seasons and stuff....

I'm confident that Blizzard isn't going to be as dirty as to add the "required download" banner to the box art post release. How many examples are there of companies having done that thus far? Not many. To my knowledge, every game that has had a required download has displayed the banner on the box art pre-release.

I wholeheartedly believe all of Diablo III will be on the cart, sans post-launch patches and updates for seasons.

The only game that gives me pause is The Banner Saga.

The EUR version doesn't have the "required download" banner while the NA version does.

Blizzard is my absolute favorite developer after Nintendo. They take their time with stuff (both frustrating but ultimately gratifying).

Generally Blizzard likes to do right by its fans (sounds really dumb to say about any company, so go ahead and disagree, whatever), so my bet is they'll put it all on the cart. BUT you're definitely gonna have some data to store with updates no matter what. Could be totally wrong, so we'll just have to wait and see.

Someone asked about seasons and stuff - I'm pretty sure it's going to have all the functionalities.

No cross save, I guess another game I like it that I won't buy on Switch and stick to copy I already have. :/

Uhm, why is this such a deal breaker? It's been the case with every other port, to my knowledge. Your PC characters are on a different server then your XBox 360 characters, who are on a different server then the XB1 characters (although you can convert a 360 character to an xb1 character), which is again on a different server then the PS4 characters.

In 23 years of me living in this world I only bought 2 consoles (New 3DS XL and Switch, because I'm to much Pokémon fan). The reason is I live in country where mininal earnings from job is now reach 400€, at begging of changing currency to Euros was 350€ and before Euro it used to be 231,7€ or less. So I didn't bought consoles, because they didn't had anything to offer interesting enough to buy whole console and you couldn't continue same game's progress even you bought excatly same game on console as well... Plus not having Cross-Save for multi-gamer like me to play same season on 2 different occiasions will be to much time consuming. In other words for me it goes like this "No Cross-Save, No Console Gaming".

@Zuljaras
Yep - everything is identical, which is awesome. This is going to be such a great game to have on the Switch.

But "no cross save" isn't some shocking deviation in the market. It's the normal approach. There's games that have "play on XB1 or Windows 10, your saves persist between the two" as a selling point. Not a big selling point, and there are relatively few "play anywhere" titles. Final Fantasy XI's servers are the same across platforms. And I've heard DC Universe Online shares servers for PS4 and PC, but haven't seen any confirmation.

So why would "no cross save" be the deal breaker for Diablo 3? "I've already bought the game once (or twice) sure, I can understand that. But if you have never bought it before, why would "no cross save" be the deal breaker?

@FaeKnight I see the logic very clear. If you've played it on another system no cross save is a deal breaker because you have to redo everything and if you've never bought it before, no crossplay would be the deal breaker because of the paid online service. Having to rely on lots of others to buy both the paid online subscription and the game for the Switch version to be worthwhile is very risky business.

Online for many 3rd party games will be dead when the paid online service comes in, Rocket League will be one of the few that survive because it has crossplay with PC/XB1.

That's an amusing stance there @Grumblevolcano. After all, the online community for 3rd party multiplayer is going very strong on PS4 and XB1, and has been on XB360 for years. And those have a subscription required for multiplayer (with rare game specific exceptions). The exceptions tend to be games that are online only, and have a subscription fee. Diablo 3 can be played offline just fine, and Blizzard doesn't charge a fee for playing online.

As such, I foresee no issues with "paid multiplayer" killing multiplayer on the Switch. Especially since the yearly price is lower then a 3 month subscription to Xbox Gold or Playstation Plus.

@Grumblevolcano
Do you rrally think paid online will affect games that much? PS4 and Xbox are doing just fine and it's only 20 bucks a year! I'm pretty sure everyone will pay for it. After all, if you can afford a 300€ console you can afford 20 a year.

@FaeKnight
The difference between cross saves in PS4 and Xbox vs Switch is that having both the PS4 and Switch or Xbox One and Switch or PC and Switch plus the same game on both consoles is much higher than any other combination. Therefore people who bought the game once didn't buy it again on the other consoles. However the Switch offers a way to continue playing the game you love so it is logical that veteran players would like to continue their progress.

@FaeKnight My logic is to do with the free period. All the other systems with paid online had it from the launch of any online multiplayer. Original Xbox had no online multiplayer at launch but as soon as online multiplayer was introduced, it was a paid service. Xbox 360, Xbox One and PS4 all had paid online from launch. Meanwhile Switch has had a large chunk of time being free online (March 2017 to 2nd half of September 2018) so I think that will be a factor in less people signing up.

"It's logical", and not the industry standard.

As I said, I can understand not wanting to buy the game a 2nd or 3rd time because you already bought it. But "no cross save" as the deal breaker to me is head scratching. If you're buying a copy of a game on a different console, it's expected that you'll have to start a new game from scratch, even if you played that game before on a different console.

And again, the Switch not having cross-play isn't some egregious thing due to the price of the system either. Going to Walmart.com, I see a 1 terrabyte hard drive xbox one will cost $299, while a 500 gig one is $249 At launch the 500 gig system (without kinect) was $299. A PS4 with 500 gigs of hard drive will cost $249, but was $299 at launch as well. As for the game, if you bought it at release on PC or any other console it cost you $60.

So I'm not seeing a good reason for the price to be why "no cross play" is the deal breaker. "I bought this game once before (or twice before)" could easily be a deal breaker. But if you bought it on any other 2 systems it wouldn't be cross-play enabled either. After all, it's not one of Microsoft's "play anywhere" titles.

This game is incredible no doubt. I would only buy this on the Switch for the portable aspect of it. I am just hoping the screen is not too small for this game.
