@Dezzy I've heard that they were pointless and stuff and everyone hated those types of games. I never played too many, but I don't see the issue with it...as long as the things give you something when you do find all of them. xD
Well they can get a bit simplistic of course. But I'm thinking of something more like the Mario 64 formula. Why did that kind of genre disappear? No reason for it at all.
So I pirated the demo. I'm sure that's not so bad, is it?
Pretty good on the whole. It does feel very much the collectathon platformers of previous eras. Why has this genre disappeared? There's no reason for it at all.
They never went away, they just started calling them "open world games" and "action-adventure games" because collect-a-thons were too much of a dirty word. And that was simply because you could count the amount of good ones on one hand. Spyro was okay, Rayman 2 eventually became pretty good after a couple ports/remakes, Jak & Daxter (the first one) was fantastic, and the Banjo games are excellent, but outside of those, you mostly had tedious crap like Gex 3 and Buck Bumble. Even a lot of Rare's games became overbearing in terms of the amount of arbitrary stuff you had to collect before you could progress. So nowadays they have to have overdramatic stories and side content in order to give the illusion that your primary motivation is not simply collecting things, even though that winds up being 90% of the game, anyways.
I mean, just look at inFamous, Crackdown, Batman: Arkham City, and pretty much anything Ubisoft has made since 2009: they're basically just modern interpretations of Jak II with rock-climbing. At the very least, I find it very hard to believe that their poorly-written stories and scripted events are supposed to be the main draw of the game, when 90% of those games consist of running around large environments, collecting miscelllaneous objects, at least 1/3rd of which are important to the overall goal of the game.
Though, I guess by the technical definition, collecting that stuff would have to be the only way to progress. And at this point, I'm starting to thing arbitrary collectables that don't have any obvious logical use or benefit are far from the worst requirement for progress a game could offer...
They've no intention of ever giving me credit. It takes only a few minutes to write up that story. They thank other people from time to time I notice. I've pointed it out to them that they've used my stories because some of them have been obscure and no way did they find them on their own but they won't even acknowledge me in the comments when I've quoted their name with @. They're also allowing certain members attack my posts and do nothing about them for the most part when reported.
3 other stories they posted this morning, I posted to them last night.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE It all depends on if they trust the source tbh. I've been given my credit where's it's due but I noticed more often then not if they don't respond to your tip with an email back then they most likely already know.

If I was only ever able to have Monster Hunter and EO games in the future, I would be a happy man.
Also, it's not as if this news story wouldn't have been brought to their attention without you @SLIGEACH_EIRE. They probably had the video file in their email inbox that Playtonic or Team 17 sent to them personally.
I honestly don't know whether or not you're being serious here. Logic says you're joking, but considering the amount of seriousness (read: drama) you give this subject, I can't really be sure...
But anyways, does anyone know if/how we'll get updates of the toybox demo? I haven't played it yet, I just want to make sure I have the most recent version when I get around to it.

I'm gonna guess that he is being serious...>.>

Playtonic Games and Yacht Club Games have announced a collaboration that has seen Shovel Knight tunnel his way into Yooka-Laylee‘s world.
It was a team effort, with Yacht Club designing and building the character model, while Playtonic rigged and animated it in order to bring it to life. Rounding off the collaboration, Sean Velasco even recorded the gobbledygook noises for Shovel Knight’s voice.
“We’re super excited to announce the blue fellow with horns will be teaming up with the green bloke with no pants!” Yacht Club Games shared. “That’s right – Shovel Knight will be digging in to the highly anticipated 3D platforming collect-em-up, Yooka-Laylee! The blue borrower is quite the chameleon these days, showing up in so many cool games, he’ll surely fit right in! We’re so ecstatic for this collaboration between Yacht Club Games and Playtonic Games!
“Whoahhh!!!! Isn’t it amazing to see Shovel Knight rendered in 3D?! It was a team effort too! Our very own Sean Velasco made all the funny noises for Shovel Knight’s voice. Is that what Shovel Knight really sounds like?
“Yacht Club Games designed and built the model itself while Playtonic rigged and animated it to life. Shovel Knight sure looks comfortable in a 3D world. Who knows… maybe one day we’ll see Shovel Knight running and jumping around his very own 64-styled adventure! Wouldn’t that be neat?”
Yooka-Laylee will release on the Nintendo eShop for Wii U in Q1 2017.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I think it would be nice for the wiiu to get a unique version and a amiibo specific to this game could do wonders for playtonic financialy and could help finance future games.
Amen. I already spent extra to get that Toybox thing...maybe I'll mess with that before I play Okami. Preferably after dinner, so I'm not so tired and easily agitated like I am right now.
