Well the content can exist or not. Shovel knight flat out would not have coop without the ammibo. The developers have said so. I'm sure if playtonic makes one it will do a ton but if you don't want that stuff created and feel the need to keep anyone else who may want it from having it then go yell at their Twitter till they think twice about it. Me I will finish the game and wish it had more knowing it would be another year or two before this team could complete anything else.
There's no reason to lock something behind a toy when it can be offered as DLC as well. Anyway, as I said, I'd rather not see any exclusive content at all. I'm getting the PS4 version and I don't want to feel left out, nor do I want any other version to be inferior.
@Octane Nintendo has at least been more generous lately with allowing the amiibo-locked content to be unlocked by clearing the game, like in Star Fox Zero and Kirby's Planet Robobot. If Yooka-Laylee did something like that, it would give players who have the amiibo access to its special features, while giving completionists a nice reward.
@allav866 that's not his point. He's is already getting the ps4 version so he doesn't want anyone to have anything he doesn't. I think it good for Nintendo to get some exclusive content seeing as how Sony and Microsoft have had the lions share for ages when it comes to multiplats.
@faint It's not coming to Vita, and who cares about trophies? Trophies aren't exclusive content, the game's still the same, with trophies or without them.
@Octane a lot of people care about trophies. You don't but a lot of people do. You may not care about amiibo but a lot of people do (including my self). The creators should be able to create what they want. Choices can also be good for the consumer. How do you feel about shovel knight? Every version has something exclusive to it (except pc). I have a wiiu, 3ds, and an Xbox one. I picked up the wiiu version due to it having extra content I cared about.
@faint Sure, I get your point, and of course they are able to create whatever they want, doesn't mean I have to agree with it though. I don't think I agree that choice is good for consumers — options are good.
Anyway, my Wii U doesn't have any internal storage left, so I have to get the PS4 version. It would be great if all versions are the same, and I'm sure that will be the case in the end. Would be a bit disappointed if included all this exclusive stuff though. It's just not necessary. There's no reason to do that unless you want people to double dip. Kinda a shady practice if you ask me.
Even if I had a PS4 I would download it for Wii U anyway, because the original developers, RARE, I mean Playtonic, are making the Wii U version, and Team 17 does the PS4 port. I'm just a little more confident in the real guys, but I hope for the best on your version of choice.
@SKTTR In the end, it's just a different box that's running the game, not too concerned about that (although the PS4 may run smoother). The problem is that my Wii U has 32GB and is pretty much full, whilst my PS4 came with 1TB. There's no reason for me get it on Wii U when I have to delete save files and DLC to make room for it.
@Tsurii The way Yacht Club Games handled the Amiibo functionality in Shovel Knight was disgusting. Using an expensive toy to unlock a feature that should have come standard. It wasn't the best use of an Amiibo, it was the worst BY FAR...
@CanisWolfred wait you payed for extra content but are against anyone else getting to buy new extra content for this title?
I paid for a demo! It's not extra, it's not even the final game. I'm pretty sure I'll end up with the same game you guys do, and I don't know of any other exclusives aside from knick-knacks and shoutouts. At the very least, as Octane said, they shouldn't restrict any bonus content by version considering it was a crowdfunded game.
Yes, the Shovel Knight amiibo covered up the cost of developing the co-op mode. The amiibo unlocks co-op. They go hand in hand 1:1. It worked out for me. Moreso than most amiibo features.
Why not offer the multiplayer as DLC for $10 instead? Would've saved them the manufacturing costs of the amiibo and we would've had the option to go for a cheaper alternative. That's still too expensive for just a multiplayer mode, but at least both parties would've been better off in some instances. This is just a way to make people pay more for less. But it masqueraded behind a physical toy, so it's suddenly acceptable. That's why I'm a fan of options, especially when you don't have the room or simply don't want to have a box of toys laying around just to unlock some extra features, just offer it as standard DLC too.
I never said I want the Amiibo to do anything really. I just want a collector toy from this game. Plus it could be used for something else down the road like for Smash.

If I was only ever able to have Monster Hunter and EO games in the future, I would be a happy man.
Right, you can take your Custom Knight to other people and play there. How would that be possible if it wasn't an amiibo but DLC instead?
There's nothing to whine about since Yacht Club Games added the second Shovel Knight game Plague of Shadows for free!
I agree all other amiibos aren't as good price/content-wise.
I got Animal Crossing amiibo Festival recently, and this game surprisingly has the second best amiibo use imo, after Shovel Knight. And Mini Mario & Friends: amiibo Challenge was going the right direction, so I'm ok with that. I think Wolf Link amiibo can do wonders in Breath of the Wild, but its use in Twilight Princess HD was underwhelming.
I have a problem with the Super Mario series amiibo's though, as you can use them only for either Mario Party 10 OR Mario Tennis Ultra Smash, but not for both. It socks!
About Splatoon amiibo, I liked them at first, but the second gen Splatoon amiibos do the same as the first gen amiibos and that's dumb! Creating new amiibos that do exactly the same as the old ones is capital LAME.
All the other games featuring amiibo are nothing to write home about, little extras, nothing more, (Mario Kart 8, Super Mario Maker, Yoshi's Woolly World, Hyrule Warriors, Kirby Power-Paintbrush, Starfox Zero, Captain Toad) They don't really need it, it feels pretty much shoehorned in.
I like the Smash Bros. amiibos just for shelf-sitting but they do nothing of value to me, their use is limited and doesn't make much sense, and you still have to unlock/buy characters and stages separately.
Anyway, Yooka-Laylee doesn't need amiibo. And if it does, well, as long as it does something worthy the extra cost and something that only amiibo can do (taking it to friends similar to Shovel Knight) I'm ok with that.
