Its all been abit boring really. Am i the only one who thinks this? Wheres the innovation? Wheres the excitement? Just an array of fps/3ps games with different skin and lots and lots of sequels and remakes.
Unravel says hello. Also, I don't think it's exactly fair to throw the Last Guardian and Horizon: Zero Dawn into that bracket.
I won't lie. I've been very impressed by the showings this year and will be saving up to get a PS4 by the end of the month.
Ico and Shadow of the colossus were 2 different games, The last Guardian looks like it has merged the two of those together to give us something familiar but new. Its still a sequel.
Horizon isnt anything new. They just come up with something new to shoot each year. "How about robot dinosaur type things?"
"Yep. That'll do."
Im not saying that im not interested in any of the games displayed, i just think its starting to get a bit repetitive like the movie industry. Banking on safe bets.
Some people say Nintendo should give up just because they don't like Nintendo or simply because they prefer Sony or Microsoft. It's not my case, Nintendo has always been my favourite since my parents gave the SNES to me when I was a child. Time has changed me but has changed more Nintendo. I love and miss the old Nintendo but currently I believe they'd do better being just another developer. It's not that I don't want them to make games but just the opposite, I want them to make good games again. And, in order to achieve that, I believe they should focus on software and not on hardware except for the portable market. Perhaps only then Nintendo could focus on games and make better games, they know how to do it because they were the best in the past. Now, Nintendo doesn't seem comfortable in the hardware competition and its games are struggling because of that. Be a developer and they might be the best once again, for players' sake.
I really don't like the navigation bar of Nintendo Life continuously reappearing while browsing!!

I'm on the opposite end. I would hate for Nintendo to stop making hardware. Nintendo is the only company really pushing the hardware envelope these days, while Sony and Microsoft seem to be content with releasing PCs in a box. That's not to say there isn't a place for straightforward, powerful hardware, but that it shouldn't be the only offerings on the table. When Nintendo releases a unique hardware machine, I feel like I have a reason to buy it beyond the fact that games have been artificially confined to the platform.
Nintendo definitely did screw up this gen. Most notably because the Gamepad wasn't the sort of innovation the Wii Remote. But I see that as reason to try harder next time.
At the same time, while I like a lot of Nintendo franchises, there are many I don't personally care for at all.

With a very creative bow mechanic in an open field that seems to show a diversity of robot animals. Concept is a big deal in video games. It can often inform how the gameplay is unique.

I think people are way over dramaticizing Nintendo's conference. It was funny and entertainig, it brought a lot of games that look really good, but it wasn't anything special. Star Fox Zero was the highlight, by far, and nothing else really added up to that level of hype. It wasn't by any means a bad direct or conference, it just wasn't what we wanted and certainly wasn't what Nintendo needed.
Seriously, people need to stop acting like this was a trainwreck. It's a solid 5 out of 10; 7 out of 10 if most ofbit struck you the right way like it did for me.
Similarly, Sony brought the wow factor. Even with no interest in their console, I was pretty impressed witg what they had to show.
So Shenmue 3's insane level of funding seems to have leveled off a bit. I'm not sure how much of that has to do with it being announced that Sony is putting money into it though.
Man, I don't think I've ever seen a E3 presentation produce as much spite and anger as this years Nintendo Conference.
Microsoft 2013.
Microsoft's E3 2013 conference wasn't that bad. It was their official reveal of the One back in May 2013 that was truly awe inspiring.
Nintendo 2008 and 2012 were both really bad though. Konami 2010 and Activision 2007 are legendary. The former for nobody knowing WTF was going on, the latter for having the worst host in E3 history. Jamie Kennedy was so bad that not only was the audience heckling him, the guests on stage were too.

It wasn't bad. But the fan response was livid. Especially after the way Sony responded.

After reading everyone's responses to the past day's events I really have to say, things look fairly bad for Nintendo. A large portion of people claim to have lost faith in Nintendo and will no longer purchase anything from them in the future due to E3 and the failure of the Wii U. Has this ever happened before and people are just exaggerating or is it really just that bad for Nintendo.

Unless you are going by GameFAQs, which is notoriously bad about making grand, exaggerated opinion statements, I haven't seen anything that bad.
I say this as someone who wasted a year and a half of his life there.

God I love this community. I'm trying to hold in my laughter cause I'm in class, but the doom and gloom threads are legit some of the funniest things I've read all year.
"This is going to kill Nintendo." Yes, slowly and surely, this one mediocre event is going to be the reason Nintendo continues to decline for the next 30 years until they have no choice but to go the THQ route. Taking my love for Nintendo stuff out of the equation, I'd still rank them higher than Unisoft and EA, this year, and let's be honest, here, this has been an AMAZING E3. Nintendo whipping out a solid 5/10 is hardly going to kill them off. Just that they'll get buried under Squeen's 6, Sony's 7, And Bethesda and Microsoft's 9s.
Also @CanisWolfred I love that animation. Not fond of the remix in it, but the animation is beyond wonderful.

My apologies if I sounded desperate. I was honestly a bit confused as to why people were reacting so terribly to everything, and it was really starting to get to me. (all the negativity and hate)
Nintendo's showing was severely underwhelming, but that doesn't mean jack for them as a company. They're going to find huge success in mobile and continue milking Amiibo. They don't care about Wii U owners anymore, as it painfully obvious. If people deny that, then I don't know what to do but giggle at their ignorance.
Nintendo's conference for me was pretty disappointing and even disheartening to an extent. The entire Digital Event just felt thrown together. It was poorly paced and focused too much on what we already knew. I think the worst thing about it was that it gave such a poor impression of the games it was showing, both new announcements and old ones. That being said, I still think Nintendo has a pretty solid lineup for the rest of the year. 2016 is going to be very pivotal for the future of the Wii U and 3DS, not only because of the NX, but also what first-party titles they have in development for their current systems.
Overall, I'm definitely planning on getting Super Mario Maker, Yoshi's Wooly World, and Xenoblade Chronicles X this year. I'm not completely sold on Triforce Heroes or Starfox Zero, but they look like they could be pretty decent. As far as next year, Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam was the highlight of the event for me. Fire Emblem Fates also looks great. Now that the massive disappointment that is Metroid Prime: Federation Force has sunk in, I think it could still be fun.

Microsoft's 2013 showing is probably the only time where the negative response wasn't for the content of the conference itself (aside from the $500 blunder) but for everything that occurred around it. Don Mattrick was good at digging Xbox One into a deeper hole with comments like "if you don't have an internet connection just get an Xbox 360" (paraphrasing) and not being more clear about the controversial features of the system.
In fact the like/dislike ratio on at least IGN's version of the Microsoft 2013 conference is worse than this year's Digital Event, to put into perspective.
