Another issue I've noticed that appears to be a result of lag is that item blocks don't seem to disappear after someone runs it over. Oftentimes there's a tight group of about 6 racers who simultaneously drive into a cluster of 4 item blocks. A quick look at the bottom screen sometimes shows that every single person received an item, despite the limited amount of boxes. Anyone else notice this?
I've noticed that as well, and I'm beginning to think it's actually intentional. It isn't like it takes a while for the ? block to disappear, it literally just doesn't. I think it's just to make sure more than 4 people have opportunities to get items.
After playing Mario Kart 7 a while I suddenly got the urge to play MK DS again. I even managed to earn all Gold Trophies in all cups including the mirror courses. First time in my life I've ever done that! Now I might try that in all The other games. Which one do you all think is the hardest to master?

@Link79 I think Mario Kart 7, computers take shortcuts, plus, you're constantly under attack, which makes it almost impossible getting three stars everywhere. And sorry if I exaggerate.

I'm just joining this MK7 community, so I'm late in learning how to play. And I'm used to playing on the Wii where I'm a crazy lady driver who can't sit still in my seat. (I'm a wild Wii driver!) When driving on MK7, are you still supposed to 'bounce' the 3DS to fly over objects, like the mushrooms tops in Mushroom Gorge, or when flying off of ramps? I did it once by pure instinct (MK Wii instinct) and it caused my 3DS lid to fly backwards to an angle I didn't even know I could move it into. (It was open completely straight backed!!! I didn't know it could do that.) Also, how do you send shells and things backwards? It doesn't say in the little paper manual. (I just read there's a manual on the cartridge, too. I go read that one. Maybe I can find out more info there.)

@Vic - When you go over jumps just hit R trigger and you will do a little trick - no need to shake the 3ds (my gf does the same thing and it drives me nuts lol). As for shooting green and red shells backwards just point joystick down and press fire.

@Link97 - I'd say Mario Kart Super Circuit, it gets really hard at the end I despite having the game for years could never get two gold cups and I think myself good at the gba game.
Edit: For anyone interested I'm sitting in the all items nintendolife group alone, want to race?
I love this game, just one question though, How do I stop it from putting all these random Mii's in my strretpass plaza, I just want the Miis of the people I pass, is their any way to Not get Miis from this? ._.

It's in your plaza settings, I think it's invite mii's from other games, I'd check but I'm hoping to get a few races in before leaving, as the night's not old yet.

Playing Mario Kart at the moment and noticed that a few people seem to not get affected by reds hitting them
They are likely playing defense and using the "L" button to drag an item behind their cart. I do it all the time. Just drag a banana or shell behind you. It's a far better defensive strategy when you're in the lead to drag an item behind your kart than to drop it on the track or fire it backwards and just hope somebody runs into it. They deflect red and green shell attacks from behind (but not the horrible blue ones), and also any racers dumb enough to slam into you from behind will instantly wipe out. The map screen tracks items as well as opponents and it will show you whenever someone is dragging an item.
If you do manage to obtain triple red shells, firing two off in succession will usually guarantee a hit (the first shell eliminates the item, second shell wrecks the kart), unless they have triple bananas.
