First off, I want to say that I absolutely love Mario Kart 7. However, there are couple of VERY annoying problems with the online system IMO. First off, what's up with the VR system? All it tells you for the most part is how MUCH someone plays, and not how GOOD they are; you gain VR no matter what place you come in, save 7th and 8th. Sure, you gain more for getting 1st, but still, if you got in 6th long enough, you would have a pretty high VR. Also, why did they get rid of the online system from Mario Kart DS, where you would play 4 courses with the same people, and then have an overall winner? In this one, it's just come and go as you please. Last, and MOST annoying, is how the difficulty automatically changes in relation to the VR of the racers. Just because my VR is getting pretty high doesn't mean I should be forced to play on Mirror Mode. Honestly, I hate that. I learn the normal tracks, not the flipped ones. I don't mind the difficulty shifting from 100cc to 150cc depending on VR, but forcing me to play in Mirror Mode is just plain unacceptable. You should be able to choose which difficulty mode you play at online. If there's a way to counter this, please let me know. There's so much I like about this game, but these couple issues really make me cringe. Anyone else agree?

1) VR, like other multiplayer games, determines how much you play. Just like Call of Duty, Battlefield, Killzone, and other online games that don't come to mind. It's just the way it is.
2) MKDS's online style is stale. Rage quitting poor sports is one of the many reasons why it's obsolete. MKWii's online is much more appropriate.
3) If your such a "good challenge" shouldn't you be wanting to be better? That's why I play online games. It's like a trial and error experience. I've prestiged in Black Ops on Wii and PS3 over 20 times and over that course of time I'm a very excellent player with a strategy for nearly any situation for nearly every game mode. Without the failure and knowing why my strategies didn't work out and how to fix them, I would be awful. Same with Mario Kart Wii. I'm excellent at that game and rarely lose. I'm excellent because I took the time to play out every track and how to gain the best advantage at any time.
Practice. And you will stop complaining.
By the way I used to b**** like you when I played BO, and how I was in the same lobby as 8th prestiged kids. I wasn't even prestiged yet, and I was going against ultimate tryhards. I yelled here and there then I finally got over it. Now I make 15th prestiged kids with 3.00 kill;death ratios rage quit.

Yesterday, I threw some Red Shells at opponents, but when they got close, something very bizarre happened. They just HUNG BEHIND the player, not even closing in, and going at the same speed as them. I try and test something by moving into that red shell, and I END UP COLLIDING WITH THE SHELL I FIRED.
What makes me more angry is that it cost me the race. Sure, maybe it was going through lag that they had already destroyed the shell, but still, I've never seen anything like it before.
@koby1724 Yes there is a way to play a 4 course race online but you have to get a group of friends together to do it. That's what the nintendolife all items league is for. Problem is its hard to fine a race or get one started.

for your first post @yuuds yes, it does make sense that you cant pause the game while online, pausing the game would make the a error in the connection, thats why Nintendo made it impossible to push the pause button while online, as for you second post...it makes no sense

@yuuds: if you're asking what happened to slipstreaming, it's still in this game — you just have to follow someone for a few good seconds before it truly kicks in. i think it also depends on your overall weight as to how quickly it kicks in, not quite sure about how it works. :3

I think what he means is that sometimes at the start of the race the slipstreaming dosen't work. Well, I've experienced that anyway. It just takes about 10 seconds until your able to slipstream I think. Or maybe it's because of your speed. Whatever, I don't know.

It's called slipstreaming? I always called it drafting.
Currently playing: 3DS: KI: Uprising Wii: Xenoblade Chronicles "Heh, heh... Thanks... You're nice. Umm... Can I ask... a question? Your friends... What kind of... people are they? I wonder... Do these people... think of you...as a friend?"
Drafting and slipstreamin are the same thing. I personally refer to it as drafting.
For the first time I got three Lucky Sevens in one race the other day. I still somehow only managed 3rd place. I've also noticed that I do MUCH better when racing online in the day than when I race at night. In the day my opponents are all American or European, but at night, my opponents are mostly the ruthless (and Maka Wuhu glitching) Japanese. The difference between night and day is literally night and day.

@Viewtiful_Joe It's not that I can't adjust, I could with enough practice (and I will), but don't you think you should be able to pick engine class? A choice for 100cc, 150cc, and Mirror (maybe even 50cc for beginners)? I practiced so hard on the regular tracks, and now that my VR is above 3000, I play on Mirror much more often, which throws me off. It's just a suggestion.

I agree with @Viewtiful_Joe here. (One of) the points of the VR system is that as you get more VR, the races become harder, and you don't get to pick your own difficulty level. If you could, then someone who is really good at the game could pick 50cc and then all the beginners would have no chance against him/her. The point is that if you want to earn more VR, you have to be prepared to race on any engine class. Mirror mode is just as perfectly good a difficulty level as 50cc, 100cc, and 150cc, and if you want to keep racing online with higher VR, then you have to be able to race on any engine class. It was the same way in MK Wii.
If the 3DS has not been discontinued SM3DL and MK7 are awesome games, but if the 3DS has been discontinued Sony has taken over the world. It is not true that both Sony has taken over the world and SM3DL and MK7 are not awesome games. Therefore:Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 are...

@NeonShell7 Good point, but how about being able to choose between 150cc and Mirror? You can't say that wouldn't be reasonable.

I was just wondering, do you guys have any Lucky Seven strategies? When I see people online get it, nine times out of ten they fire off all seven items as quickly as possible, which seems like a waste. I prefer to use the star first followed immediately by the blooper. The star protects me in case someone hits my bomb and it blows up. Then I usually try to get rid of the bomb, usually by dropping it behind me unless I have a good shot lined up down range. If the level has a good shorcut, I will save the mushroom/star for it. I'm usually left with a measly banana and green shell circling me which I sometimes leave circling me for a while so anyone who gets too close will get hit.
