The highlight of the week for many Nintendo fans was the long-awaited announcement of the Bayonetta 3 release date. Yes, after years of Hideki Kamiya telling us development is going well, and everything is fine, the teams at Nintendo and PlatinumGames have finally locked in a release date.
Bayonetta is back on 28th October 2022 in an all-new adventure, where you - the player - will fight your way through the streets of Tokyo, the mountains of China and many other stunning locales. You'll even take control of other Bayonettas such as Viola - a "feisty witch" in training who fights with both a sword and a demon.
A physical version of the game has been announced, but if you're considering a digital version (available via the Switch eShop and Nintendo website), you'll be interested to know the new game will require approximately 15GB of free space. In comparison, Bayonetta 2 on the Nintendo Switch is just 12.4GB and the original Bayonetta game on Nintendo's hybrid system is 8.6GB.

Physical all the way, day 1.
Bayonetta's filesize is thicker than a bowl of oatmeals.
I was always going physical for this, but the file size makes it that much more important.
I don't know if I'm getting Bayonetta, but this type of file size makes me love my new fat sd card since I'm mostly a digital person.
Usually, run-of-the-mill file size. Physical copies are always important because of this.
I always go for physical whenever possible. Day 1 pick up. Any word on pre-order for the physical version of Bayonetta 1?
Got the Trinity Masquerade edition on lock so I’ll get to keep that space!
Physical whenever possible. Saving the SD card for patches, dlc and digital-only titles.
@Sakisa you can order that? I thought they didn't make it available yet
I was expecting something like this but I'll be buying the physical edition this time to save storage space.
@DTfeartheBEARD GameStop is taking preorders
Pre ordering games seems odd to me
hopefully they give us any info on the special editions be available for preorder crossing fingers its not exclusive to my nintendo store again after that fiasco with xenoblade 3 special editions.
Digital pre-install Day -7 all the way! It will be a commitment to Bayonetta to have 36 gb of my 512 gb MicroSD card dedicated to her.
@Lady_rosalina walked into a GameStop and pre-ordered it. Same with the physical edition of Bayonetta 1.
@Sakisa 😳 I need to get on it thank you so much!!!! I thought they'd announce links for it

15GB for a game still 3 1/2 months out sounds like a well rounded placeholder to me. Though it's releasing in October 4 years after announcement so it could have been finished months ago. 🤷
@rjejr
You might be right, but I gotta figure it’s very close to finished at this point. Just a little more than 3 months before release date and manufacturing/distribution of physical copies and sending digital codes to reviewers will probably happen weeks before the official release date too. That and the file size is in the ballpark of the other 2 Bayo games, so it’s probably correct, more or less.
Land of the free and home of the whoppa?
I’m just glad we are at the finish line.
Digital for me, damn what a great year for gaming.
At this stage 15GB isn't a lot of storage so I don't get why people are going on like that's some sort of reason to go physical.
Sure when the Switch launched and a 128GB microSD card was $100AU. At that point it definitely mattered and was the reason I got a lot of games physically early on, especially >10GB games. But now you can get 512GB for a similar price
I cannot wait to play Bayonetta 3 on my Nintendo Switch OLED!
@adh56 I looked at Gamestop online. I don't see it...
@JAGleics appreciate the link. I live in the US though...
@skywake because storage comes at a cost any way you slice it.. it does add up and quick when you are talking about big file sized games like this.. don't get me wrong, I like that digital makes me more lazy and it's super convenient, however there is no guarantee you will ever be able to re-cover old digital games in the future..
@Smug43
I'll put it this way. At launch 128GB cost about ~$100AU so a 15GB game effectively had an additional $12AU cost attached. Now because the cards are cheaper that cost is closer to an additional $3AU
Which you may say "that's an additional cost" which is true. But there are other discounts at play. Eg the regular retail price for games here is ~$70AU but if I go digital I can get a game voucher which drops the price to $67AU. Also digital games give you stronger gold coin rewards which adds to that. And additionally you can get discounted eShop cards (often ~15%). You can very easily end up paying ~$10-15AU less digitally, which more than makes up for the ~$3 you paid for that SD card storage. A card you need anyways for digital only games
And your last point about guarantees of being able to play the game in the future. I don't have any games that have become unplayable because I brought them digitally. None. Sure it has happened for some games but usually what happens is the servers for that game goes offline, which also impacts physical purchases. And in any case, other than preservation, why would I care? 15-20 years from now if I want to play Bayonetta 3 and Nintendo has made my game unplayable somehow? I'd personally feel justified playing it by other means
@skywake I would rather have all my dowlnloaded games on one SD card and not have to swap between several, so I try to get any game over a few GB on cart.
@DTfeartheBEARD well I did it at my local GameStop in person. Bayonetta 1 and the special edition of Bayonetta 3.
@Smug43 "big file sized games like this"
You must only have a Switch because 15GB is a very small file size when 3rd Party games on the other consoles can be over 100GBs and probably average 25+
@Smug43 yes and there’s no guarantee you’ll be able to recover your physical copy if you damage / lose it.
Just think when Nintendo announce their Switch download servers will go offline in the distant future, memory cards will be so so much cheaper than today. We’ll easily be able to download every game we’ve purchased and keep them safe for peanuts. My physical games may have been eaten by the dog then.
I was 50:50 physical: digital when switch launched but I’m becoming more digital as this gen on. Although I am conflicted as I would hate to see physical games disappear all together.
And 15Gb is nothing by todays standards. I hope this game doesn’t suffer from heavy decompression loading times.
@RushDawg "more or less"
My comment was more along the lines of the more or less part when I see a whole round number like 15. It's probably close as you say, 14.8 or 15.2, I just find it hard to believe it's exactly 15GB.
Judging by the amount of voice acting in the trailer, which seemed like a lot for a Bayonetta game, I'm going w/ the over, Looks gorgeous too.
@Mr_Gamecube that’s a good idea. I’ll do the same. 👍
Here’s hoping it will even support the sales for a definite 4th game in the future.
@skywake u can sell physical games, if needed, which negates all of ur points, to me.
@twztid13
I've never sold any game I've bought so, meh
i confused Nintendo site state Bayonetta 3 file size is 16GB, but the eShop show is 13.4 GB, i believe on Nintendo site or on the eShop?, i checked both the internacional Nintendo site and the brazilian version of Nintendo site and both show Bayonetta 3 file size is 16GB, eShop also in the USA and the brazilian eShop also show is 13.4 GB, what is going on?
