We're getting Super Mario Lego, it has been confirmed.

The Danish toy firm is joining forces with Nintendo to create a range of toys which feature the world's most famous plumber, and, judging from the teaser tweet, some kind of electronic connectivity is going to be featured.

The video shows a Mario toy with a screen inside, presumably a smartphone one – or, more excitingly, a Switch.

We'll update this story when we hear more news about this exciting collaboration. But just think – if Super Mario Lego is happening, then surely we'll see Zelda, Animal Crossing and more rendered in chunky blocks? Could this also lead to a series of video games, like the Star Wars and Marvel efforts?

We've previously seen fan-made Lego sets based on Nintendo properties in the past via Lego's Ideals portal, but none of them have succeeded in actually going into production, presumably due to licencing issues between Lego and Nintendo. Previously, Nintendo has worked with Lego rival Mega Bloks to produce sets based on the Pokémon series.

Now that issue has seemingly been overcome, we can't wait to see what comes next.
