Nintendo Switch GameCube Adapter Delayed In The UK Until May 2019

Yeah, I'm just going to stick with my pro controller. It's just too good.

Just curious, will the one from Super Smash Bros. on Wii U work? I do have one of those somewhere. I remember stock was very limited, but I just casually got it in a bundle on launch day somehow.

Just buy a third party Wii U one. Boy, they’re sure going to be losing money on this one...

And what happens with the adapter that is supposed to come bundled with the special edition?

I got the same email. But I’m wondering if this applies to the bundle pack that includes the game, the adapter and a controller. Because I’ve preordered that too :/

You beat me by a minute with this question. I've got the Limited Edition with the GameCube Controller and (supposedly) the Adapter on pre-order... Will we be getting this at all then?

In regards to the question at the end of the article, I’ve seen them floating around here in the US, so we may not have that issue.

In Canada we are not having a delay. I recieved mine from Amazon at the start of this month already

Damn, that's probably a major loss for some people. Fortunately, my friends and I prefer using wireless controllers so this doesn't matter for me... plus I'm in the US. I have 3 pairs of Joy-Con and I'm going to either buy a Pro Controller or some cheap alternative by Smash's release!

Unless supplies dry up from here on out I'll echo @nintendobynature, they were at my local Best Buy as well.

I'm in the US and have received mine already.

We have them already over here in the states. I’ve definitely seen them at GameStop & Best Buy. I also received mine from Amazon a week or so ago.

@SmoochyTea It's the same adapter as the Wii U one, just different branding on the device.

The Wii U GameCube adapter has been working since early this year.

It seems the controllers themselves are having a lot of drift and input issues. Check the Amazon reviews. Very disappointing.

So that leaves the special edition I have ordered up the creek.

I loved the GameCube controller more than anyone, but maybe it’s time to finally let go?

I bought a Cube on the strength of its controller. Even got an import wavebird at UK launch.

But we have to say goodbye at some point. I lament I can’t use the 360 pad on the Xbox one but I don’t make an issue out of it.

@Shepdawg1 This. In fact, I had to double-take at the article because I just saw some at my local Super Target yesterday. Thankfully I already have the Wii U one.

I already have one here in the US... 😬 I had to buy a separate one because the one I preordered had an error with the second controller port, but the one I have now works perfectly.

@Moroboshi876 I've just had a chat with Nintendo UK's Store (as I, too, have pre-ordered the Special Edition), and while they confirmed the individual SKU has been delayed, they didn't (or couldn't) confirm that the SE had been delayed. I'm going to keep my pre-order open for now - still haven't received any email to suggest a delay - in the hope that it still gets fulfilled.

Well, scratch my idea of purchasing a Gamecube controller on Smash’s launch date.

According to Nintendo UK Store customer service, this doesn't affect the Collectors Edition with the adapter bundled with it.

It really doesn't matter to me. For one thing, I live in America, where they're available, and two, I already have a Mayflash Gamecube Adapter STILL adorned with Tetris Stickers from a Loot Crate thing, years ago. Updated it recently, too. Of course, I don't even play Pokken Tournament, so that update is useless.

I have the Mayflash GC adapter and it works.

Finally I feel a benefit of being a Wii U owner - I already have one. =P

I feel like that sweet 8BitDo dongle pretty much makes this unnecessary anyway.

One could just buy a WiiU or a Mayflash adapter.

Works fine on the Switch. I have one with a Wavebird.

Anyway, this isn't a problem for those of us who still have an adapter from the Wii U days. Of course, given that nobody actually BOUGHT a Wii U, there aren't that many of us.

I got one from Amazon.com and as of the writing of this message (9am EST 11/16/2018) the adapters are available on Amazon for MSRP of $20 USD. If Amazon ships to the UK, I'd buy it from there.

In North America, these adapters were available at the launch for Smash Wii U and a few weeks afterwards. About a month or two after launch they were gone and only hit or miss 3rd party ones available. Same with the GC controllers. Get them soon if you want them.

Wow that's a shame for this waiting for them. Was at the store yesterday and there were plenty on the racks in the US. May have to scoop up a couple and see what the market is willing to pay for them hehe

Only joking. I already have two of the mayflash adapters so I couldn't give a ****. If anything it might help reduce prices on the controllers if less people are buying them due to lack of adapters...

I’ll plug the Mayflash adapter as well. For this type of accessory, I don’t see there being much advantage with first party hardware.

My little brother got a 3rd party one that comes with a PC mode. Not affected here!

My Wii U one from last gen still works so this doesn't affect me as much.

@SmoochyTea I messaged a retailer that I have preordered with and this is what they said to me.

This applies to the standalone adapter."

That's a shame, always like Smash with a GC controller although I think the Pro controller should definitely do fine till May.

Guys, just buy the Mayflash adapter, I found that those are of much higher quality than the official GC Adapter.

They may even be cheaper. And they work natively on PC so that's a plus

The US has them, I got my pre-order from Best Buy 2 weeks ago.

I ordered mine off of walmart literally last night.

Got the email that it was shipped.

You can use the same gamecube adapter from the Wii U. It was built for Wii U and PC but it works perfectly fine I've heard as long as its set to Wii U and the switch has pro controller enabled. Buying the switch version of it is just nintendo marketing that its for the switch, so if you can get an old one, then this shouldn't be a problem.

Again, what does this mean for the special edition with the game, a GC Controller and adapter? Got that ordered, so it would be nice if they let us know if we're even getting the game at launch (Which would cost Nintendo heavily if they have to give us download codes while we wait...)

@SmoochyTea Yeah it will work, the Wii U adapter and the Switch adapter is the same thing.

... oh well ... the 8BitDo Gamecube wireless adapter will just have to tide me over ..

@SmoochyTea I would imagine so, the Wii U Adapter is compatible with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. It’s the exact same product.

I wish the special edition smash dock came with 4, or even better 8, GameCube ports along the front. I expect someone will make themselves a custom version in due time but it would have been a great reason to buy a special edition bundle for a lot of people and certainly more elegant than this thing sticking out of the side of the dock.

Of course front facing USB ports in the first place at least would have avoided some of the awkwardness.

But as I already have my Wii U adapter I’m just happy they let us use it for other games this time. I still have a full set of original controllers so this makes for cheap (and quite pleasant) 4 player MK8 Deluxe. And if n64 games ever come to the online service they’ll get even more use from me.
