About a week ago, WayForward revealed the details about the new Costume Mode coming to Shantae: Half-Genie Hero, which will mark the end of the game’s current plan for post-release DLC support. Now, we’ve known that an Ultimate Edition would be on the way, so it stood to reason that an announcement likely wouldn’t be too far behind the reveal of the new DLC, and WayForward has indeed deliver by revealing when we can expect Ultimate Edition to launch.
The game will be releasing on 8th May for $39.99, and will of course come on a physical game cartridge. The cartridge will include the Pirate Queen’s Quest, Friends Mode, and Costume Mode expansions, and the box will also contain a 30-song soundtrack CD, and a 100 page art book. Indeed, it sounds like the premier experience for fans of the game, and for those of you in Europe, the Ultimate Edition will be launching on 27th April.
What do you think? Will you be picking this up? What was your favorite expansion? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Pre-ordered it. Looking forward to it as I did quite enjoy the previous ones and have been craving a good platformer (the wait for Yooka Laylee getting a physical edition has been a looooonnnng one v.v).
Also, with a bit of shopping around you can actually get this physical collector's edition for cheaper than the digital version + DLC downloads ^_^
Amazon Prime members in the US can enjoy a nifty discount on this one. It also says April 24th.
Does the digital version come with all the DLC goodies as well? This is detrimental to my purchase, cause if not, I’ll pass. 🙁
I've got all the digital goodies... and I'm still getting the physical edition for the physical goodies because I love Shantae.
@Cartune All the digital stuff should be available the day the physical game launches. You just won't get the physical stuff like the art book or soundtrack.
Pre-ordened it and waiting it!!! ^.^
Still got my unused Wii U backer code, but ordered this. Wonder if those codes have a deadline for use...?
@Flowerlark I believe they should be compatible and there’s no “transfer” process. As long as the system doesn’t see the two releases as different products the system should use the save data either way.
I can't help but be annoyed by these much later physical releases. Even for games I really like if the physical release came months later I don't think I would double dip on the same system, and I certainly wouldn't wait just hoping we get a physical release without confirmation.
Depends on the wait even if we know we are getting a physical...
@Heavyarms55 It's why I've been holding out on a few games. Half-Genie Hero I held out for the longest time now, since even straight from the beginning, they said it was eventually going to see physical release and I'm glad I waited. Granted, there's some games that I don't ever expect to go physical or are too small to really bother buying the physical edition (such as the case with Thimbleweed Park), so I go digital with those.
If I hadn't backed the Kickstarter and already got the Vita physical release, this'd be a right chuff birthday treat...but I'm still tempted toward that art booklet.
I literally just bought the regular version as a digital purchase. Will it be upgraded when the ultimate version comes out, or did I just waste my money?
@Yoko No you'll have to buy the dlc. It'll come out to the same price or so anyway. And this game was announced Agessss ago lmao
